theyy started too early
Goss before Reinshaw, when Goss hit the front, Cavendish couldn't follow any more

HTC went far too early, and looks like Cav realised and tried to drop back, but dropped back too far. Garmin came charging through with only Feillu and Rojas there, and then Feillu held off Farrar's wheel for some reason, which certainly helped Farrar.

Well, I guess Cavendish has a sort of a physiological need to screw up the first sprint of each GT. Happy that Farrar won, seeing him crying in the 4th stage of the Giro was very touching. |
