Well yeah, Italy did win the World Cup that way 4 years ago.
And let's not forget about Greece 2004. That made no sense at all. |

Greece was amazing. But I'm sure most Portuguese people here would disagree with me. |

My feelings on the final are (just to note, I watched the final with my 9 year old cousin continually pinching and punching me, so I wasn't paying 100% attention) that the Netherlands played the only way they could have to have any chance of winning, and except for Casillas (and RvP) it almost worked. The Dutch had to play big physical football, as no team can beat Spain in a fluid, pass and run match. The problem for the Dutch was two fold. One, Van Bommel and De Jong got stupid yellow cards (De Jong should have gotten red) early in the game, meaning they couldn't play as physical later as they should have. Secondly, the Dutch team couldn't finish on the counter-attack. Casillas brilliant stopped Robben on both breakaways, Puyol and Pique (with those two breakaways as exceptions) shut down the Dutch attack, and RvP whiffed or fucked up every good chance he had (figures, Arsenal player...). The Spanish just kept trying to play their game, and in the end it was the inability of the Dutch to finish on the many counter-attacking chances they had that did them in, as Spain was always going to score at least once.
As for Howard Webb, I think he is the best ref in the world, and in my opinion, called the game relatively well. De Jong should have gotten a red, and some of the cards were badly given, but Webb had to try and stamp his authority on the game, and tried to as best he could. The one thing he should have done is given a red sooner though, as that probably would have made both teams tune it down a bit. |

Anti-football is a fucking lie. The only thing that matters in football is winning. The Netherlands failed, so that's 'anti-football', but Inter won the CL, so they're brilliant. Duh.
Don't be the one who doesn't want to understand, you know what he means... this team was known for playing what is called "total football". Not the case in this WC, I must say I did not recognize the dutch team I used to know... and like...

Brazil was known by their 'jogo-bonito' and Spain is still known as 'la Furia'. Not to mention the style change of Germany. So? |

So I read here several times that the dutch team changed its way of playing to win, but obviously they still don't... the difference with the previous edition is that not only they didn't catch the WC, but they also are seen like an unpleasant team by lot of people now.
I think that was the thing Cruyff wanted to point at. |

The difference with the previous editions is that they reached the final. Not a small one. |

Whjat kumazan said, indeed. The difference is we reached the final. In the 32 years after 78 they couldn't do that with good football. |

Although Cruyff babbled a lot of nonsense this world cup, he is right here.
Btw, he also said the Spanish played bad with their field too far apart. And that the referee killed the final by making a lot of horrible decisions.
Cruyff
We're still not sure if Cruyff is incredibly simple-minded or incredibly genious. I think it's the first.
Calling a couple of mistimed challenges anti-football is something I don't agree with. Anti-football is like Internazionale - Barcelona or Holland - Portugal in 2006 to name a few examples. Cruyff is babbling nonsense again.
Both teams respected each other. There were no fights between players. Nobody got injured. Players and coaches from both sides mentioned nothing about dirty play. |

Since the first Spain vs Switzerland match I knew Spain would go very far and win. Although they did score few goals, their play was just stunning till the end - they ruled all matches
Spain deffo deserved to hold the WC in their hands!
LOOOOOOL. Spain stunning play? They pass the ball around between the defender for 120 minutes in the final like the rest of the tournament? THATS STUNNING. LOL.
No one deserved this WC win. It's simply the worst WC ever and the final is just a perfect symbol. I am happy to declare that the final goal for Spain was referees mistake and therefore the game ended 0-0. There is no winner of the WC this year. |

I almost completely agree with this. Except for the fact that Iniesta and Villa were diving at least 4 times each. Villa once even tripped over his own foot and claimed a penalty
You are right. If I see the danish commentators from television in real life I will kill them. Seriously. Every time a cry-baby Spain dude fell and dived they just shouted that the Netherlands were cold-blooded bastards. LOL. For once I actually cheered for Holland. Not because they are good, no. They suck. But Spain ruin every game with their boring passing play and cry-baby attitude on the pitch.

You are wrong. WC`s are always like this.
CL is for nice and fast games, WC was always for hard and fighting games.
There were several teams, who deserved this WC win.
But Spain was much better than all the others, they played football on a very high level. |

High level is passing the ball between the defenders 95% of the time? No way. There are times were you actually see some kind of offensive spirit in the WC but they are becoming more and more seldom. Spain won 1-0 in their last 4 games and their opponents played crappy. That's not high level. Spain plays predictable and boring and you know it. Germany were the only team to show some unpredictable and interesting football this WC. |

Germany showed it against England, Argentina and Australia (all 3 played very weak), but had problems against Ghana, Serbia and Spain.
The award for the most attractive football should definitly go to Germany but Spain never lost control over the game. That`s what they did on a high level. Always control the opponent. |

If it were so easy to do so why no team could not provide that kind of play the all WC long?? For no, it wasnt easy! Spain did it and it was perfectly demonstrated that it did work in the end. Sorry if you cannot stand it, that's it. I enjoyed all matches from Spain and just a couple of others.
You cannot help yourself complaining, obviously. Your favorite teams lost, then you do so.

And that's my point. It's amazingly boring with these slow and controlled games. I can't understand why noone agrees on this and keeps calling it's beautiful football when it's not. It's tactical football at it's best, not beautiful.
There's very little pride in this way of winning. |

Counter football is the most spectacular. But that's hard to do all match. It costs too much energy to kick it forward in 4/5 passes and run a lot. |

Fixed. How is tactical football not beautiful? I enjoyed a lot with Greece in 2004. Granted, that wasn't as exciting as Chile, but much more effective.
Also, I couldn't disagree more with your last sentence. How could you not be pride if you won giving your best? |

I feel exactly the same. I don't like watching Barcelona or Spain because it is so slow. Real Madrid play at a higher pace, so are more enjoyable for me, but generally spanish football is too slow for me. Granted they're the best footballers, but they aren't very entertaining imo. Germany were by far the most entertaining team because they played with speed and a lot of runs in behind the defence. |

it was a real shame taht the dutch decided to kick the players and not the ball.
feel sorry for howard web, the ref, he had a good tournament and was ruined by the p[layers acting like tools, not just the dutch. |
