Before the next stage some new transfers.

Transfer News

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/meier-1.jpg

Christian Meier had to leave Garmin - Cervelo. He will go down to Continental division. He accepted the offer by the Canadian Team Spidertech. Good luck for him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/fischer-1.jpg

Also Murilo Fischer found a new team as he is still motivated to continue his career and his results this year prove him right.
The British team Carmiooro signed him. He could be the lead out for Ben Swift there and also racing on his own in smaller races.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/vaugrenard.jpg

After Roche signed for our team Ag2r definitely needed a new puncheur for the Ardennes. So they signed Benoit Vaugrenard. A quite obvious transfer actually and definitely a good one. But first they must get some results as he won`t ride for them if they don`t get a PT license.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/sagan-1.jpg

Maybe the biggest transfer. Peter Sagan leaves Liquigas and joins HTC - Highroad. It`s the 2nd big transfer after Matti Breschel for the American team.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/benatti.jpg

Also Bennati is leaving Liquigas after realizing his bad chances with Cavendish ahead of him next season.
He will join Team Sky and be their first sprinter.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/pozzato.jpg

Pozzato had a lot of bad luck in the previous seasons. So another team change might have been the best solution for him. Lampre offered him a contract and he accepted.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/kreuziger.jpg

And the 3rd big name is leaving Liquigas. Kreuziger is one of the best GT riders at the moment and might have potential left. Even funnier that he joins FDJ the next season. At least they will have a good leader in the mountains again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/ricco.jpg

Last for today. Riccardo Ricco leaves the Continental Team Skil-Shimano as he sees no future for them and signed with the new PT Team Farnese Vini. He will be their leader in GT`s. But also just in the case that they keep their license.

That's not bad luck. It's called wheelsucking. Smile

However, Kreuziger to FDJ sounds like a good signing by the french team.

OK... But why do you post it here?

Good luck in the next stages, roturn.

Thanks for the comments.

@LeopardFan_: It`s not for all stories. This thread is my personal Garmin story.
@ vangerner: Except of the Kreuziger transfer it`s quite realistic I think. But even in real cycling there are very weird transfers. Wink

Tour de Pologne - Stage 5
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-1.jpg
Absolutely the queen`s stage of the Tour de Pologne today. Lenght and difficulty are more like a classic. It`s actually very similar to Fleche Wallone with long and steep hills. So there will definitely be time gaps today.
Hopefully Martin can show something great.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-2.jpg
6 riders try their luck in the break.
Portal (Ag2r), Sieberg (NetApp), Eisel (HTC), Docker (Skil), Rovny (Shack) and Etxegibel (Euskaltel). None of them is such a good puncheur. But with Sieberg the Continental leader and German champion proved a strong form in the last weeks. Also Mitchell Docker already surprised with a stage win in one mountain top finish in the Giro d`Italia.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-3.jpg
Obviously Katusha is planning something today. With Kolobnev they have one of the biggest favourites for the overall win and he is really made for these classics as his 2 consecutive wins in the Amstel Gold Race prove.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-4.jpg
The breakaway is now in the hard part of this stage. Just up and down from here. Dumoulin (Cofidis) joined the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-5.jpg
With a maximum advance of more than 10 minutes Liquigas (Gilbert) and Leopard (Cancellara) increased their pace. Immediately many riders have big problems.
Martin, Felline, Kreder and Kessiakoff still doing quite well.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-6.jpg
But on one of the last hills Felline can`t follow the pace and also Kreder is falling back. So just Martin in the favourite`s group with about 20 riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-7.jpg
Grivko, De La Fuente and also Kolobnev with an attack 15km to the finish on the last long climb. Wsa this the decision? Martin decided to wait as Liquigas and Leopard are still doing the pace. Also the pace was just too high for a real attack.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-8.jpg
With 8km Kolobnev was caught again. So there are still 16 riders on the 3km mark. Not long until the final climb will split this group. Martin in a good position.
Scarponi with a strong attack to get a small advantage to the others.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5-9.jpg
And this attack was enough to beat the big classic riders Gilbert and Kolobnev and take the stage and overall lead. These 3 finished with the same time. Martin lost 15s on them unfortunately together with Grivko, Cancellara and Bakelants but still pretty happy with this result as he is 3rd now in the overall.
Felline and Kreder lost more than 2min in the end, so he loses the U25 jersey to Taaramae.

Pretty strong Scarponi. Martin has just to hang on to the top-3/5... Smile

+ 1 Good stage and good looking GC so far!

mowinckel91
Looking forward to see this story evolve in PCM 2011 Grin

Thanks.
Scarponi indeed with a nice attack in the end. But strongest might be Kolobnev and Grivko. Both attacked with 15km to go and were able to sprint in the end.
@mowinckel91: I am also looking forward to it. But before it needs a long time to edit the DB. I first thought about just copying the excel files. But with so many new lines in the table like charisma, popularity, region... this is not possible. ;(
But I will find a way to make it. I will start as soon as possible with the official release to edit most transfers. Stats will be done in the off season to have the correct values.
Also I will try to add as many races as possible before starting with 2011. Hopefully I can just copy the excel file there. Haven`t checked yet.

Next stage later today. Takes a while with 3 parallel races.
Hainleite, Portual and Denmark just a summary like in Austria after Pologne.

Tour de Pologne - Stage 6
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-1.jpg
Another hard stage where the overall coulb be mixed up. The climbs aren`t very steep but still long enough to split the peloton.
The final climb with 7km and 4,5% in average might be Martin`s last chance to improve.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-2.jpg
5 riders in the break. Kreder is also there to defend his KoM jersey. He needed two tries to jump into the right group and also now the other riders aren`t that happy to have him there with just 6-7min back in the overall.
Just Ortega Orts (Euskaltel) is helping him in leading the group.
Other riders are Sulzberger (FDJ), Molmy (Cofidis) and Haddou (Ag2r).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-3.jpg
After winning the first KoM sprint Kreder also takes the second one and secures the jersey now. Nobody was able to follow him on the final kilometer of this climb. Just Sulzberger and Ortega Orts are a few meter back.
The peloton is down to 3min now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-4.jpg
Then a shocking moment for us. Riders like Scarponi, Cancellara, Gerdemann, Grivko and Vorganov attacked on teh climb and are now 1'30 ahead of Martin. We haven`t even noticed while focusing on Kreder.
Now we have to do the pace with all our riders. Also Felline had to help.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-5.jpg
This of course wasn`t good for Kreder. together with Sulzberger he was in front but was caught 10km to the line together nearly at the same time than the favourites.
Martin is still feeling very well and is still supported by Kessiakoff and Felline, who both worked hard on the last 20km.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-6.jpg
With 4,5km to go a strong attack by Scarponi. Just Martin, Kolobnev and Gilbert can follow him. Good to see there is no Cancellara or Grivko behind Martin.
Martin tries to get rid of them as he is the strongest climber and does most of the pace but the climb wasn`T hard enough to make Kolobnev or Gilbert struggle.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6-7.jpg
And in the final sprint they were of course faster than Martin. Kolobnev takes the win ahead of Scarponi and Gilbert. Martin with the same time 4th and will keep the 3rd as there was a small gap to the next group.
With the flat stage tomorrow Martin might be on the podium in Pologne again but still no overall win.
