Second place is obviously bigger than a 10th place, but that doesn't mean he will be a stronger rider for the time trial. Remember the reason for his second place is the big break away, not his time trial skills.
Of course, but i think that psychologically someone fighting for second can really take out those last seconds better than one fighting for tenth. but now Arroyo finished in front of Nibali anyway.

Thank god for Cadel Evans. That was a ride worthy of a world champion, its a shame it didn't come 3km earlier. I just loved the way Vino went backwards, all he deserves. |

3km earlier and I suspect Evans wouldnt have had the legs to keep up the attack all the way to the line

Mollema again the best young rider. Shame they gave Porte and Kiserlovski 12 minutes bonus. Oh well. |

Arroyo was dropped at first, but kept it cool and sprinted ahead of Nibali. Way to go! |

Scarponi is the biggest loser from that particular day. |

What a celebration

It's called a breakaway winning actually.

Meh, Scarponi didn't have a team besides Serpa. He did all he could to limite the damage with Bertogliati working that stage (when I remember correctly).
He had bad luck Liquigas decided to do nothing. |

So, what was Mollemma's excuse for missing the move on that stage, when his rivals for that classification did not miss it?

Not the big battle we might have wanted but a nice stage nethertheless.
British Eurosport - if I did not have my player I would have been furious
Nice win by Tschopp, I really hope that no-one slates him for winning the Cima Coppi. Simoni showed himself today in a last hurrah and hurray to him for doing it. Evans keeps fighting and it was a nice try, but no-one blew up behind but the face Arroyo pulled at the end tells the story.
Chapeau to Sastre, Pinotti and Vinokourov for trying. Lots of gesturing at the end for Vino but honestly what was Righi doing exactly? Guess he was pretty much on the limit.
So Basso has done it, a victory for him and his team. Arroyo is not a great TTer but will be second thats really a career defining result.
As a Brit I always keep an eye out for team sky but today they were completely invisible. I hope they knew what they were doing with Wiggins here he will be judged in July. I guess we will see how he does tomorrow, would be good to bookend the race!
The battle of tomorrow Nibali vs Scarponi vs Evans for 3rd. Don't think Evans can pull that time back but I reckon Scarponi will do better than Nibali tomorrow. |

First Tom Boonen gets done for coke, then Floyd Landis decides to talk to the media whilst clearly tripping on acid, and now Lloyd?!? Holy shit, the entire pro peleton is doped!
....oh wait... |

Yep, I assume Wiggins will be well down today, saving energy for tomorrow. He should have a great chance of taking the stage.

If Scarponi beats Nibali tommorow, I'll be very surprised. Nibali is a decent TTer. |

That's only Mollema's mistake. That's not giving a bonus to other riders.

So 100 riders in this Giro, including almost all the top 10, bar Porte, Kiserlovski and Arroyo, made a mistake?
Funny.

What was Vino doing more to the point? You want someone to work with you on a climb you don't keep on attacking them. |
