Congrats - 8.99W/kg the magic number |

I'm using Strava now for only a week and I noticed something "strange".
I had done a trip of 112km with some climbs (nothing special), the next day, I did the first half of the same route again.
Now, I only get a reward for one PB and 3 second places on the first trip. Why are there no rewards for the faster times I did on the second day?
(I hope that this is clear )
Another question: how can I change rhythm to speed at the Garmin Connect app?

Dunno about the second, though it must be in the settings somewhere.
For the first : if you don't achieve a top-10 or better you're not rewarded the first time you pass somewhere. But pass again and you'll be rewarded for the "second best time" there (if you were slower).
If you really want those trophies, edit your first ride to "private", then to "public" again and you'll get them.

maybe I should be thinking about retiring when even the 15 years old can beat me
edit: nearly beats me

Well I don't know how old you are and wether you do races? But in the Netherlands and Belgium there is a great variety of Racing and there are a lot of competative cyclists, even at the age of 14, 15, 16. I have to say that I am not that competative and truly I prefer my computer than going out for a ride. So I train on average 3/4 times per week in summer and about 1/2 in winter. |

Don't rely too much on the strava function. Very inaccurate. I have got over 10 w/kg on a minute on a stationary (also unrelyable though, I don't think I will be able to do that outside) and still never reached 7 on strava. |

Without a power meter it's not going to be accurate anyway, and I believe Strava doesn't take wind or aerodynamics into account (or take standard values).
On longer climbs it seems the values are rather correct when there's no external factor though.
All the top 1 minute efforts (according to Strava) I've managed were when I was climbing walls, so I'm wondering if momentum is taken into account or not, it looks like it's not. |

Momentum is not taken into account as most of mine are also on walls with a downhill run in, the longer climbs are the most accurate by a long way. I wish some of there calculations were true because it would make me a beast!

Plus what your w/kg is when you are fresh matters very little if you can't repeat that effort after three hours of racing when it does matter most. That's the hardest thing.
On a side note, I thought I'd managed to get the longest ride in for the week yesterday, but no, Strydz beat me once more.

Had first 'serious' ride yesterday, where i got 55kms for almost 2 hours, which is cool for a 16 years old guy, imo. Sadly, i forgot to turn on Strava...
Oh and when i say 'serious' i mean lenghtwise, not by average speed or something similar. It was just calm ride.

Sorry about that I have a cold this week so I might not have such a hectic week as last weeks efforts

Just picked up my new bike today, thought I'd given it a good check over in the shop but belatedly realised the front tyre is on the wrong way round (the rotation arrow is pointing the wrong way).
Not sure how important it is and only have this from the British Cycling website that suggests it's not a big deal:
Losing your Direction? Many tyres come with a directional arrow ensuring that you orient them the correct way, with the arrow pointing in the direction of rotation. However, this only makes a real difference on aggressive off road tyres, with specific knobbles designed to hook up on climbs, during cornering and when braking. So don't fret if you've got your lightly treaded road or hybrid tyre 'the wrong way around.'
Anyone with more insight on this one? More than anything I'm just wondering how negligent the bike shop might have been? |

Pretty much what the quote says. Probably no big deal. Plus if you can't be arsed to remove the tyre and put it back in the proper direction you could still remove the front axle of the wheel, and insert it back the other way round. Don't try this trick on a rear tyre though.

Ok thanks Aquarius. Will probably just leave it be and mention it when I take it in for the new bike check and adjust in a couple of weeks time.
Also it means I can keep telling myself I'd knock off the extra 5 minutes to get the KOM's if only my tyre was the right way round... |
