Spain won absolutely deserved.
The ref was awful He might be a good ref but yesterday he just had a bad day.
If he had been consequent Puyol, Iniesta, Robben, Bommel, de Jong would have seen red, Spain would have a penalty kick, Netherlands a corner...so probably nothing would have changed on the winner, It`s over now and the better team has won, how it should be.
On the other hand, I haven`t seen that many dives. Most times there was always a small touchment, but enough to get a foul. Maybe there are player who continue running, but they don`t have to if there was a foul.
Is it me, or Heitinga was sent off because of two blatant dives from Iniesta and Villa? Not that the Netherlands didn't deserve to end up with one man less, but quite frankly I found the spanish diving to be atrocious (even Robben looked a bit player in comparison).
To see two teams cheating in every situation was really a rather dismal experience. I could see that coming from the Spaniards (hey, we all know how Operación Puerto is turning out), but the Dutch have really disapponted me. Even their best teams in the 70s would dish out tackles as if there was no tomorrow, but this...it was embarassing. |

Funny fact: New Zealand was the only team which got through the tournament undefeated
This is an awesome fact Unfortunately Netherlands didn`t lose, too. All the statistics are made after 90min. So for the statistics it wasn`t a remis yesterday. |

and now... what about all of this persons who usually criticates Spain???
This.. for all of them!
I think nobody did.
They played the best football all tournament.
I said it against Switzerland already. Swiss might have won, but Spain played by far the best football that match.
Even our analist on TV said after the 1st matches. The final will be Spain Netherlands and Netherlands can only win if Spain has a really bad day.
In the end, they did meet eachother and unfortunately Spain had another good day. |

I almost completely agree with this. Except for the fact that Iniesta and Villa were diving at least 4 times each. Villa once even tripped over his own foot and claimed a penalty |

Here's my analysis of the final.
The first 20 minutes Spain was clearly better and created some chances. Holland defended and made a lot of fouls and De Jong was lucky not to get sent off.
After that the game got more evenly matched, meaning that both teams were playing really, really bad football.
The first part of the second half Holland was on top. Robben should have scored at least one goal. After that Spain got stronger again and Villa got a very big chance to score.
During additional time Spain was a little stronger but still didn't create much chances save a big chance for Fabregas, which forced a great save from Stekelenburg. Everything looked like it was going to be penalties. Spain had some luck with a couple of bad decisions from the ref and they scored.
Don't get me wrong. I think Spain is a better team than Holland and deserved to win (even though they didn't play brilliant as well). But It could easily have been a Dutch victory here.
De Jong and Van Bommel could have been sent off, but same goes for Puyol and Iniesta. Holland played physical but a lot of times they were just to late, which resulted in a foul.
This is all due to the quality and speed of the Spanish players. I don't think any of the fouls tonight was an attempt to injure another player. It's not our style and it never will be (I hope). I think diving and acting is much worse and should be punished, not rewarded.
The ref was inconsequent. And it's very sad to see that matches are influenced because of errors from the ref.
This was a very bad final, but that is not an exception to other WC finals.
This is all of course my opinion But I really needed to say this.
Anyway, congrats Spain. Celebrate this win. Hopefully we'll see you in 2 years.
Edit: And Good Luck to Gio. You have been a great player and captain for us. Even though you played for Feyenoord

I guess it was because Van Bronckhorst was tired, and had a yellow card, which is dangerous having the professional diver known as Jesús Navas in front of him. |

Actually that was Xavi, he tried to kick the ball, but his foot was deflected of a dutch defenders foot, so he kicked his own leg. |

Kicking Real Madrid players with that violence is something that should be teached in the schools. I like De Jong. |

Cruyff: "This ugly, vulgar, hard, hermetic, hardly eye-catching, hardly football style, yes it served the Dutch to unsettle Spain. If with this they got satisfaction, fine, but they ended up losing. They were playing anti-football."
Final point.

Although Cruyff babbled a lot of nonsense this world cup, he is right here.
Btw, he also said the Spanish played bad with their field too far apart. And that the referee killed the final by making a lot of horrible decisions.

Anti-football is a fucking lie. The only thing that matters in football is winning. The Netherlands failed, so that's 'anti-football', but Inter won the CL, so they're brilliant. Duh. |
