I know. I just wanted all possible leaders to lead in at least one race. That`s why I go to Denmark and Limousin. Portugal might have been the wrong choice, but there was no real other option for Hesjedal.
So quite stressful month but most of the TdF squad riders aren`t racing.

@ hellboy: I have 30 riders in my team. I have absolutely no idea how I will be able to compete. Wink But I planned the whole season with Lachi`s race planner, so I am sure I had an idea earlier.
We will see later if it works.

The Tour de Pologne is a 7 day stage race in Poland. It`s normally held one week after the Tour de France. It was first held in 1928 and until 1990 it was ridden by amateurs. Since 2005 it`s a part of the UCI Pro Tour and bigger names are riding this race, that is normally dominated by puncheurs. Record champion with 3 wins is the Polish rider Dariusz Baranowski, who won from 91-93.

Daniel Martin showed some nice performances last year. He finished 2nd as the year before. On a changed route he will go for the win now. But not sure if the new route suits him better.

Route in 2012

As mentioned there will be a new course in 2012. As there is no real Tour of Pologne variant I just picked some of my own stages I almost never play. 5 stages are from my Deutschland Tour, which is used in the Man Game. The hardest hilly stage is the Grand Duche stage, also used there and originally created by Svam for PCM09. Last flat stage is of my Southland Tour. So I am able to play my stages, which aren`t integrated in my career.
The profile is quite similar actually.
2 very flat stages in the beginning, 2 stages for hilly sprinters, 1-2 stages for the overall contenders and 1 final stage for the sprinters again.
Hardest stage for sure the Grand Duche one, which is comparable to the Fleche Wallone.

Garmin squad in 2012
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-team.jpg
A very strong team here. Not all of them are in a good form, but preparing for the Vuelta or other races.
Daniel Martin will be the leader. Hopefully he can perform similar to last year. With Kessiakoff, Felline, Pate and Kreder he has 3 strong riders for the hilly stages. They will support him as much as possible. Hunter had problems in the hard Tour de France. So we decided to send him to Pologne for the sprint decisions. He won`t probably do as good as Farrar last year with the points jersey, but a good end of his career.
He is supported by Fischer, who is also aiming for the harder sprint stages together with Felline. Maaskant is helping wherever he is needed as his fitness is not very good at the moment.

Quite a strong startlist for this race. Probably stronger than last year. But not sure about their fitness level as many of them will prepare for the Vuelta or the Worlds and won`t go to their limit.
In the sprints we can expect close decisions between Boonen, Cavendish, Greipel and Bennati. For the hillier sprints also Bole, Duque, Breschel or Gasparotto can be expected in a good position.

Tour de Pologne - Stage 1
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-1.jpg
The first stage is pretty flat. Big favourites of course Boonen, Cavendish/Greipel and Bennati. But let`s see how good Hunter can perform here. His fitness isn`t that bad (84) and he seems to be very motivated.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2.jpg
Several riders in the break today. Biggest names: Seb.Chavanel (FDJ), Hoste (Omega), Fofonov (Astana), Freire (Rabobank) and Vaitkus (RadioShack).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3.jpg
Some teams aren`t that happy with the group. Quickstep (Boonen), Liquigas (Gilbert, Bennati), Katusha (Kolobnev) and HTC (Cavendish) doing the lead. With 70km the advance is down to 4min.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4.jpg
8km to long for them. The group is caught and now the sprint can start soon.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-5.jpg
On the 3km mark the Garmin riders are still a bit back. Maaskant, Fischer and Felline are bringing Hunter into a better position. But the pace is just too fast for them and so he has to sprint from here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-6.jpg
And Boonen wins the first stage as last year. He obviously still has the form of the Tour de France. A bit surprisingly he wins ahead of Bole and Goddaert. But best news for us to see Hunter on the 4th. This was a very good sprint by him out of this position and even beating Cavendish in the end. This looks very promising now for the next stages.

Hadn't Hunter have a bad positioning, I'm sure he'd get very close to Boonen or even try the win. Last year Boonen also dominated the sprints, if I'm not wrong. Pfft

Great reports, results and summaries over last pages. Top notch standard as always. Very good start to the Pologne. Now just keep it up.

I am acutally doing my first stage race as stagemaker. Polgone Variant. Something for Martin to enjoy as it will have two days in mountains. Will release it after summer though, not enough time unfortuantely.

First tough climb is 10km and all the climb is cobbled. The climb is called 'Sniezka'. Quite tough actually.

Second 'queen stage' is climb on 'Morskie Oko'. 17 km climb with very high gradients throughout. Something for Martin to enjoy Smile

Bad luck for Robert... bad positioning for Garmin today but he showed great acceleration... good luck in the next stages.

Thanks.
Agree with you. A better positioning would have been the key for the podium or even the win here.
@ Alakagom: Good luck with the variant. I might try it with PCM11 in the next season.

Tour de Pologne - Stage 2
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2-1.jpg
Another very flat stage. Hunter should look for his chance as it`s the last stage for him before 4 more hilly ones.
On the other hand we must be careful today. The weather forecast predicts a heavy side wind today on several parts of the stage. So Martin must show attention everywhere.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2-2.jpg
Just 4 riders in the break. It took quite a while before they were formed after 25km. Drouilly (Euskaltel), Van Emden (Rabobank), O'Grady (Leopard) and Kireyev (Astana).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2-3.jpg
Same picture than yesterday. Quickstep doing the pace for their race leader Boonen and supported by the sprinter teams Liquigas and HTC. No chance for the breakaway again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2-4.jpg
As expected the wind is very strong. Especially on the 2nd half of the race on the long straight roads it comes from the side the whole time.
The peloton becomes very long and some splits might happen. It`s a very hard race for everyone now but luckily Hunter and Martin are in the first rows.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2-5.jpg
15km to go and the group is caught again. But just ~70 riders in this group. Most of the former peloton are already more than 1min behind. Luckily most of the Garmin riders in this group. Just Kessiakoff missed the split and felt back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-2-6.jpg
In the sprint Hunter had no energy left. Cavendish with a deserve win as he was the most powerful in the end ahead of Bole again and Goesinnen. Martin as 11th the best Garmin rider. His form is coming for the important stages.

The bigger group even had +2'18 in the end. Several favourites lost time today. Also Kreder seems to be in this group next to Kessiakoff.
Favourites in the 2nd group: Gasparotto, Nuyens, Hoogerland, Visconti, Pauriol, Kirchen, Gilbert, Ricco

Thanks to wind, some favourites got dropped Smile Good news! Same for Martin, who finished on a nice 11th. Promising for the upcoming, harder stages!

Nice, you gained time of some potential winners. Smile

Tombola
Very good that you stayed in front with Martin! Already a "victory" for the GC...

Thanks. Going for the stage didn`t work but more important was Martin in the first group. Cancellara and Kolobnev still there and maybe the biggest favourites now with Gilbert and Ricco falling back.

Tour de Pologne - Stage 3
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-1.jpg
Still a stage for the sprinter probably but much harder than last two. But also a late attack could pay out. The last small hill might bring some sprinters into troubles. So our sprint leader will be Murilo Fischer today and also Felline could actually suit this finish.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-2.jpg
11 riders in the break as there are many KoM points to win. One reason to send one of our guys into the group. After losing time yesterday Kreder is perfect for this task. He might be the strongest "puncheur" in the group.
Kreder (Garmin), Turgot (Europcar), Roulston (Omega), T.Fothen (NetApp), Veelers (Skil), Vaitkus (RadioShack), Mohs (FDJ), Scognamiglio (Farnese) are the yet known riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-3.jpg
Quickstep doing most work again although Boonen lost the leader shirt. Bole`s Lampre team is still waiting a bit and let HTC and Liquigas support them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-4.jpg
Meanwhile Kreder is collecting some points. Just Turgot is challenging him a bit, so the share most sprints. But in the end Kreder will get the jersey today. Good news and another sign of his new self confident.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-5.jpg
After the last KoM sprint there are still 30km to the finish. With still 3'30 advance Vaitkus is trying to attack.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-6.jpg
But in the end the stage was 5km too long. Kreder and his companions are caught again and the peloton will sprint.
Hunter indeed had some problems on the hill, while Martin was staying in the first rows and also Felline and Fischer came back with some power left.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-3-7.jpg
It`s Matti Breschel with the stage win. He was surely expected in todays stage, Also the next stage should suit him quite well.
Directly after the stage the Danish champion announced that he will leave Leopard - Trek, although he had a fantastic time there. He will join Team HTC-Highroad, where he is the single leader in the cobbled races. Time to remember his great Paris Roubaix win when everybody was looking on his leader Cancellara.

But back to the race. Cavendish with a very strong 2nd today ahead of Sutton. Fischer as 7th with a very strong result as also Felline and Martin as 8th and 9th.
Now the 3 hill stages are coming next and Martin`s form seems to be alright.

tsmoha
Good job with Kreder and nice result for Garmin with 3 in Top-10!

Anonymer
Looks good for Martin as a lot possible gc contenders already lost time, maybe he can get the overall win this year

roturn
Thanks both.
I hope so, too, although the 5th stage might suit Gilbert, Cancellara and Kolobnev much better I think.

Tour de Pologne - Stage 4
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-1.jpg
It`s the first hilly stage today. But as most hills aren`t very steep and there is a descent in the end again we don`t expect that many attacks. Probably most favourites are waiting for tomorrows stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-2.jpg
On the first mountain sprint a group successfully rode away. No danger for Kreder`s mountain jersey today.
Huzarski (Farnese), Chainel (Europcar), Voß (NetApp), Renev (Astana), Clarke (Sky), Ventoso (RadioShack), Cornu (Skil), Van Winden (Rabobank) and Noval (Euskaltel).
All of them already lost some time on the windy stage and are more than 2min back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-3.jpg
Greipel, Eisel and Renshaw are doing the pace for the 4th sprinter and new race leader Mark Cavendish. Probably he will lose the jersey today as he isn`t known as such a hilly sprinter. More likely that riders like Bole, Boonen, Lorenzetto or Breschel will be going for the win today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-4.jpg
With half the race finished 4 riders attacked.
Roy (FDJ), Pauriol (Movistar), Hoogerland (Vacansoleil) and Capecchi (Lampre). Also Kessiakoff tried to counter but he had not enough power and felt back into the peloton again.
Although all 4 of them are 2min back they would be a danger if you allow them to go too far away.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-5.jpg
With 5km to go there are still riders ahead of the peloton. First group around Voss, Clarke, Huzarski and Cornu will go for the win for sure.
Clarke is the best sprinter but after all the hills and the long breakaway nothing decided yet.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-6.jpg
And it is Huzarski. This was quite unexpected as many experts made him the weakest in a sprint. Clarke and Voß couldn`t overtake him in the end.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/08%20August/TdP-4-7.jpg
57s later the "peloton" with 50-60 riders arrived. Just Martin and Felline in this group. So both of them will jump into the top 10 overall after this stage.
Grega Bole gets the leader jersey back as Cavendish wasn`t able to stay in this group.
