A referee like Webb isn't good for football

If you allow karate kicks from de Jong in a match, by all chance you should really just stop.

No, I didnt and I even got up at that moment to boo . Refereeing really started sucking from the knockout stages. It was hard to stand it but that's it. Anyway Spain deserved to win - stunning football Pfft

To be fair with De Jong, what he did is not red card. Some people need to take a look on the rules.

Sending-off offences
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the
following seven offences:
• serious foul play
• violent conduct

Pg 37. It is, you don't even have to look at the rules to know that's a red card. In competition he would even be suspended for X amount of matches.

It was fraggingly obviously not on purpose. So that was dangerous play: indirect kick + yellow card.

Kami
Erm, in what way wasn't it on purpose? He couldn't have possibly thought that he could kick the ball, with the flat of his foot? On top of that he didn't even stretch his leg to it's full hight, he just went straight to Xabi's chest.

Edit: It's the fn same case as all those red cards that have been given in football for players who 'happen to miss' the ball and hit the player.

Don't be such so bleeding bureaucratic. Geez, he kicked him in the chest for god's sake, how's that not a red card!!!??

It's either he didn't it on purpose or he's mental. So I have to believe he didn't see Alonso, which is perfectly understandable if you're looking to the ball. It's unfortunate, and sure it hurts, but that's football.

Sure it is, but it was wreckless and he kicked him. Surely not purposely, but what he did was wreckless, hence red card. If you ask me.

Okay, that's your opinion. Too bad the rules think otherwise. Pfft

The thing is, even after such a horrible match it could've been 1-0 so easily if Robben just scored the absolute eaisest chance he got all world cup

Another trauma Pfft

Anyway, this is all Dutchies fault. They always lose in the finals they play, and for one time they win, they had to do it against the team with the most badass kit ever, and fuck good ol' Dasaev. Meh.

Spain clearly deserved it on the match.

Though, I'm a bit disgusted they won it. As the local commentators here said, now Spain dominates every single sport. (Bar men's handball that is. Pfft) When you know what they do to their best youngsters from their early teen years, it's normal and predictable that they both win and lose guys (literally) on the pitch. Their "we'll never forget you Dani" on their tee-shirts somehow made me sick, nothing personal against any individual, but Spain in sports is just plain disgusting. The covering up of their top level cyclists, likely of their football players and various other athletes in the Puerto case is very logical in that sense, just like the many other Fuentes-like that are still around. Yucky.

Spain deserved to win. I hate when players complain and wine to the ref. Like Robben did!
In all fairness that was a foul by Puyol and also a red card.

Ironic isn't it. For once robben doesn't fall when he should, and he gets punished for it. Probably karma.

But it was a terrible match, where the lesser of evils won.

He got the same "treatment" that Cristiano Ronaldo allways got. A shame, but because of his reputation he allmost need to break his leg to get a freekick. But Holland played very good football true the whole WC, but it wasen't good enough unfortunently Sad

Spain won absolutely deserved.
The ref was awful Grin He might be a good ref but yesterday he just had a bad day.
If he had been consequent Puyol, Iniesta, Robben, Bommel, de Jong would have seen red, Spain would have a penalty kick, Netherlands a corner...so probably nothing would have changed on the winner, It`s over now and the better team has won, how it should be.

On the other hand, I haven`t seen that many dives. Most times there was always a small touchment, but enough to get a foul. Maybe there are player who continue running, but they don`t have to if there was a foul.

He wasn't awful, he wasn't great though. You'll be scared of sending people off if you're reffing a WC Final.

And the referee wasn't that bad. You have to keep in mind that this is a WC final. You just can't send people off lightly.

i agree 100% with you Kumazan. Webb wanted to keep 11 players on each team. yes a stricter ref would have issued a couple of reds, but then Webb would have been booed for ruining the final. i think he acted with composure throughout the final and the only wrong decission he made was the corner decission at the end. but that was probably because he had to concentrate on the Dutch players dirty tactics in the box behind the wall.

both of the challenges were borderline red cards at the most. a decent referee should always try to keep 11 players on the pitch except for in circumstances when it is impossible not to give a red ie last defender, deliberate hand ball or a high 2 footed challenge.

if more referee's were as sensible then we wouldn't have had ridiculous sendings off like the ones that Klose and Cahill recieved.

Since the first Spain vs Switzerland match I knew Spain would go very far and win. Although they did score few goals, their play was just stunning till the end - they ruled all matches

Spain deffo deserved to hold the WC in their hands! Cool

Their play was stunning against Switzerland. Since then, they've been boring. Occasionally, they produced some beautiful play, but it's been few and far between. This is not the same Spain that won the Euro 08. They still deserve the win though, they've been solid throughout, but their play was not stunning till the end imo.

And no, i'm not dutch
