Though it's not chronologically accurate, here are the results of the Plouay, Québec and Montréal one-day races:
 Bretagne Classic Ouest-France (1.UWT)  Plouay, 236 kms
Bilbao was the strongest man of a breakaway trio, but Sunweb worked very hard on the last couple of laps to get everything back together.
Ion Izagirre tried a move on the final bump, but he couldn't shake off Vanbilsen and Baska.
The Belgian lost the momentum when they were swamped from behind, yet Baska went on to win the race. Gaudrat stranded in his wheel as Peter Sagan completed the podium.

Diego Ochoa was the team captain for the first of race of the Canadian classics, held in Québec. We faced among others an impressive Bahrain lineup with Thomas, Quintana, Landa and Hungary's top talent Abel Kenyeres.
This race could perfectly be looked back at as the one that saw countless crashes, one of which knocked several favourites out of contention. Fourty kilometers from the line Thomas, Kwiatkowski, Barguil, Lutsenko, Kudus and Kelderman saw their chances go up in smoke, despite the latter's Katusha team dropping entirely.
On the final lap, Rally-UHC's Odd Christian Eiking launched a sharp attack in search of the break of the day. While Ochoa was boxed in at that moment, while Bardet and Landa tried to follow but failed.
While Eiking rode further and further away after catching and dropping the remaining escapees, Ochoa ended up in a chasing group with those escapees, Landa, Bardet and Calmejane. Marc Goos caught up from behind and left the group behind right away.
Eiking and Goos ended up crossing the line way ahead of the rest. A powerful acceleration from the foot of the final bump got Ochoa the remaining podium spot. A little later, Henao sprinted to 10th.

Ochoa led our team on the second Canadian race as well. After a high paced start, four escapees broke clear.
The bunch waited until the final lap to reel them back in. It was the ultimate sign for Landa to attack on the penultimate bump. Ochoa chose to look at others to close the gap and only Verona would bridge right away.
Over the final climb, the leading duo hadn't resisted the comeback of a handful of riders. The winner sat in this group of 10, in which in was just Ochoa for us.
Diego didn't quite have the legs he had in Québec and saw his sprint being messed up by that. Attackers Landa and Verona had the most left and the Basque sprinted past some lapped riders.
Calmejane came from behind to complete the podium, Diego Ochoa stranded in 5th place.

 Stage 11 :: 40.1 km ITT
The traditional post-race day time trial took the riders from Cambados to Pontevedra in the Galicia region, over approximately 40 kilometers. The first half featured the cat.3 climb of Alto Monte Castrove, followed by a technical descent, another small rise, before a flat and flat-out section into the finish.
Some of us had been looking forward to this time trial for days. Cortes and Cerezo, champions of their respective countries, both had splendid intermediate times.
Cerezo, the best of the two, sadly lost his pace inside the final kilometers, finishing 18" slower than Malori, who held the fastest time at that point.
The Italian world topper's time was slightly bettered by several riders, until Trek's Mathias Krigbaum registered an ultra fast time of 57'34".
But in hindsight, today was mostly about this man. World champion Sam Vandenborre had a perfect day on the bike and crushed Krigbaum's time by another 57", finishing miles ahead of the rest.
Guerreiro had a very good day too, and finished only slower than Vandenborre, Krigbaum and Mullen. Being the more gifted time trialist, Simon Yates had no trouble forcing Fernández out of the red jersey. But after today, Ruben is back in GC business too.

Mitchelton and BORA kept the breakaway with Enrico Battaglin on a very short leash on the ___/ stage to Mirador de Ézaro.
On the first slopes already, Ruben felt how his aversion for this kind of walls upset his legs. Fellow GC contenders started to kick away from him right away.
Ultimately, Ruben would cross the line at the very back of the GC group. GC second Fernández made it a very long sprint, yet no one was able to keep him from a second stage win. The bonus seconds cut down Yates' lead to 57".

Stage 13 :: 170 kms
A breakaway group with Ednaldo Luiz Cortes arrived in the streets of Ferrol with a realistic chance of winning stage 13.
While focusing on Van Avermaet's wheel for a potential sprint, Ednaldo missed the decisive move. Matthias Brändle and Salvatore Puccio left the others behind.
The Austrian former Hour Record holder's pace was just too high for Puccio, and he landed the biggest win of his career. Except for Puccio and Rathe, the other escapees were swamped from behind.
No shifts in GC, but that's probably about to change with mountain stages to Puerto de Ancares, Lagos de Covadonga, Cuitu Negru and Fuente Dé up next...

Used the time trial right and didn't lose time on a climb he doesn't like much. I'd say a job well done for Ruben.

Vuelta a España (2.GT)  Stage 14/21, 149.6 kms
First out of four consecutive mountain stages: the road to [url=]Puerto de Ancares[/url]. The final climb is preceded by four more climbs, each one more difficult than the last.
By the time the GC group reached the penultimate climb, it had become clear that the break of the day would fight for the stage win as their lead was still 8'30" with just 30 kms left.
After Zardini and Battaglin had already done their share of the work, Chávarri thinned the group further. Of the top 15, Caruso, Matthews and white jersey van der Poel were gone.
We ended up sacrificing our domestiques a little early, which cause Ruben to sit alone on the final climb. There it was again Mühlberger who lit up things with an attack 10 kilometers from the top.
Meanwhile Juan Pardo was on his way to save both his and Movistar's Vuelta with a very welcome stage win.
Back in GC land, the Yates twins turned things around. Mühlberger, Fernández, Slagter, Wellens were nowhere to be seen. The lone chaser coming out of the mist three kilometers from the top, was Ruben.
As the stage went to Pardo, Ruben kept fighting to bridge to the Yates brothers. Once he almost had, their sprint caused him to lose more time again. He had to give them both 35", yet he's now Simon's closest GC rival.

Looking like a solid Vuelta so far. Guerreiro in the middle of a Yates sandwich atm, but 2nd would probably be a very good result for the team. I guess we've got most of the mountains still to come though.

Always tricky to trust in your own pace when some accelerate just to fall back then. Ruben did great again today and if the keeps this up, the top 3

We should be happy with a podium contender (which is a sponsor goal btw) and a stage winner after 14 stages. Strange to see the Yates brothers compete for a GT podium for the very first (!) time in this save. Ruben is on par with them in terms of climbing but doesn't have their acceleration at all. And Spain does have these climbs one can make a sharp acceleration count on...

Vuelta a España (2.GT) Stage 15/21, 184.1 kms
Lagos de Covadonga, two glacial lakes situated in the Picos de Europe range. After being introduced in 1983, the climb has featured in most of the 20+ editions of La Vuelta held since then.
Bahrain's Ilnur Zakarin dropped fellow escapee Betancur up the flanks of the Covadonga climb. The Colombian fell back to a chasing group with Edoardo Zardini. Zakarin had a lead of 5'25" at 8 kilometers from the line.
While De Marchi bridged, the pace of the GC men was increasing. With 3 kilometers to go they caught up with the last survivors from the break. Some contenders were on the verge of cracking when the leader himself attacked.
Ruben, who'd had great support from Sam up until then, had to react himself with the leader's brother Adam in tow. The gap was just a few meters nearing the red kite.
Simon's vicious acceleration eventually kept Ruben from catching up once more. As the red jersey bagged a second stage win, our man cemented his second place by dropping Adam Yates in his turn.
More GC action to come on Cuitu Negru tomorrow.

Not many of the top riders seem to have an increasing form like Ruben does now, so I agree. Sam's been doing a great job supporting Guerreiro, who's made a massive leap forward this year in terms of being a GC rider.
Riding for a result himself, he's had a disappointing year indeed. Third at Algarve to begin with was nice, but he crashed in the Giro (still won a stage and helped Ruben secure 4th), got injured when he was wearing yellow at the Dauphiné and had two very bad days in the first week of this Vuelta.

No mercy for the riders on this pre rest day stage: not in this route and definitely not in these conditions. Hours of plentiful rainfall had even turned the roadside field into swamps.
After a first, bigger break had been caught back, Chávarri teamed up with GC 7th Wellens, Betancur and Ravasi for his long-awaited breakaway attempt.
Later on, Buchmann and Lundbye would launch a vain counter attack.
Saddest image of today: GC 4th Fernández who was in too much pain to start riding again after his crash in the slippery descent of Alto de San Lorenzo, the first long climb of the day. The best Spaniard in the race was done.
Both on San Lorenzo and the next climb, Alto de la Cobertoria, Eder followed his own pace. After being dropped at first on both occasions, he still managed to win these two KoM sprints. After the penultimate climb, he was on his own.
After La Cobertoria, the GC group was down to just seven riders. Some caught up again on the downhill, with this 25-man group as a result.
The sole difficulty left was Cuitu Negro, also nicknamed the Asturian Bola del Mundo. It's the hardest stretch starts with the last 3 kilometers, where the road rises at an average of 13.5% with pitches of 25%.
Adam Yates attacked his brother's red jersey almost from the foot. The leader didn't show the slightest reaction and kept climbing in a 7-man group with Ruben that broke clear from the rest. Sam was done helping with 8 kilometers to the top.
At that point, Adam Yates' gap amounted to almost 2'30".
At the front, Eder's conservative approach allowed two men to almost catch up. Or one at least, because Ravasi dropped Betancur while bridging the last meters.
At the same time, Ruben took charge of the hunt for Adam Yates' wheel. He swept up breakway rider Lundbye on an easier section five km from the top. Just Pardo left in tow, no sign of the red jersey...
After Ravasi had blatantly refused to do his share of the work, Eder upped the pace again in the steep penultimate kilometer. He made Ravasi crack by simply keeping up his pedal dance...
Ruben continued his too as he got rid of Pardo two kilometers from the line. Communications were not that great so all he could do to catch (sight of) Yates was going as fast as possible.
In an environment of a horrendously steep road and a starting snow shower, Eder added to his impressive tally of GT stage wins on iconic climbs: after Rassos de Peguera, Alpe d'Huez, Lagos de Covadonga, DuToits Kloof Pass, there's now Cuitu Negru.
Guerreiro passed Betancur for fourth and finally caught sight of Adam Yates again, even if he still finished almost 40" ahead of him.
The fight for the GC is still on, more than ever. Our man will get a headstart of 50" over the Yates twins to tackle the final week.
First task after the rest day: surviving any new planned coups on the red jersey on the Fuente Dé stage.

Today was the turnaround we needed to become a contender for more than 'just' the GC podium. Good to see Chávarri add a 5th GT stage win to his tally after fighting for the GC in Le Tour as well.
Spoiler Quite embarassing that I totally missed Adam Yates' attack when playing the stage. I thought Ruben was busy putting minutes into the others when Adam's name popped up when he had crossed the line in third.
