krisa - They did very well indeed!
MrUfo87 - Thank you!
PCM rulezz - Overall the team can be happy
Just raced the Ronde, and I'm just as tired as the riders in real life. It was so nail-biting, nervously exciting. I'm just glad it's over coming up in a little while, and then that's it for today. Paris - Roubaix tomorrow around noon, hopefully! |

De Ronde Van Vlaanderen 2015
Stijn: After a win in the Omloop and the E3 and a second place in Gent - Wevelgem, I'm among the top favorites. This could be my first monument. At the age of 25, that would be amazing. I can only hope for the best. This is the race of my dreams!
Stijn Van Gent
The breakaway of the day was way too big and we couldn't let that happen!
Farrar remembered my lead-out only several days ago and worked himself into the red for me today, it was more than I could ask of him!
But it was a shitty day from the start. When Cancellara did his first test, on the Kwaremont (1st time), I was badly placed already!
Luckily there was no harm done. I caught up pretty soon and there was a medium-sized group. I was up near the front and saw Vanbilsen, another favorite, attacking, I had to go with him! BANG, I'm moving too slow, what is this? A FLAT TIRE? Not at this moment, of all possible moments?
Vanmarcke was still at the front, no use in wasting him, too. I got help from Farrar once again, giving me his wheel, because there were no team cars around.
I set up a chase.
I just caught up with the group right before the second time Kwaremont.
Just when I joined and was able to catch my breath again, it started raining attacks again. Oh no!
Once again, it was chasing. I got a little help from Boasson Hagen.
In the meantime at the front: Cancellara and Vanbilsen going at it with two. Nobody able to follow, even Vanmarcke was at the edge of his abilities.
I didn't know what I had left. Already I had spent over 30 km in the chase, how much more could I take? I was surprised when I passed Vanmarcke.
5 km left to go and I got the two leaders in my sights! I was seeing black spots all over, to be honest!
AMAZING, but I caught up with them. My sprint would be somewhere near the region of shitty, though. I had nothing left but acid legs and a nasty cough from the rain and the cold temperatures.
But nothing could keep me from trying to win my dream race, the Ronde! I can do it!!!!!
I can still do it, come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How close can you get to your dream? Damn...
Flash Interviews:
Sporza: Fabian Cancellara. 4 times Ronde Van Vlaanderen. An absolute record, you write legend today.
Cancellara: It's simply amazing. This is a great day.
Sporza: How did your race go?
Cancellara: I had a good race, no bad luck. And I've got my health, that's very important. When everything goes right, you can do your best and be happy with your result. I'm a happy man today.
Sporza: After a long tied record with 3 wins, you become the sole record holder. How does it feel?
Cancellara: It's a great feeling. The Ronde is special for me. I love it and apparently it loves me back.
Sporza: Congratulations once again, Fabian Cancellara!
Cancellara: Thank you!
Sporza: Stijn, how close can you come?
Van Gent: I'm so disappointed. I had the best legs I've ever had, but I couldn't cash it in.
Sporza: You spend half your race chasing, it must've been frustrating.
Van Gent: It's frustrating as hell, but what can you do? I did everything I could and finish second. You know, for the media I should say: I'm happy, and all that jazz. But at the moment it's hard to say. Cancellara certainly deserved to win, but I just wanted a fair race, without flats and falls. If you can do that and you finish second, you can accept it easier.
Sporza: Still a very good result after such a bad-luck race. Congratulations.
Van Gent: Thank you.
Sporza: Tom, how was your race?
Tom Boonen: It was all right. I was never really in it, but I finish high up, so I'm happy.
Sporza: For a while it seemed as though Tom Boonen was going to break all records in the classics, but these last years it's turning and Cancellara seems the men to go into history books, how do you feel about that?
Tom Boonen: (laughs) I'm not sure. I'm just here to do my job.
Sporza: Kenneth Vanbilsen. So strong, so ready for that big win, but always missing out by a few inches.
Vanbilsen: Yes indeed. But I'm proving myself all the time and riding a lot of podiums, so that's good.
Sporza: How did your race go?
Vanbilsen: It was good. At a sudden moment it was just me and Cancellara. Suddenly Stijn joined us, I was surprised by that.
Sporza: 2 km before the finish we saw you two talking, where you talking about beating the Swiss Machine?
Vanbilsen: I don't really remember anymore. It was nothing important, nothing could be done against him. Thanks!
Well, there you go.
I went a bit into the red today and collapsed right after the finish line. I'm just back from the hospital. I've never gone deeper than today. I hope I will be fit for Roubaix.
Hopefully we'll see you then,
Stijn - not yet winner of the Ronde Van Vlaanderen - Van Gent |

Bah, so unfortunate
And Vanbilsen gets insanely better each season! Any chance for another screenshot?
Now for Roubaix, everything or nothing for Stijn!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yep Great Race there, over 9 minutes seperating the top 10!!!
--- There has been some talk of this story coming to an end, I hope not, but if it does it would be great to see you do a story like Baggieboys or Sengalese where special teams are chosen for one big tour.
Keep it up.

Jesleyh - Hope he's fit for Roubaix, too! Thanks
PCM rulezz - Murphy was a real pain in the butt today! Without him, I think Stijn would've won
Miguel98 - Thank you!
Ollfardh - I'll try to get a shot of Vanbilsen tomorrow or tonight (have to go in a minute), if I'd forget, don't hesitate to remind me!
The Rider - Thanks a lot! The story's not coming to an end, I was just annoyed by the AI, but it's looking better now, so for the moment it's still definitely going!
Thanks for all support! |

How is it possible that Cancellara beats Van Gent in the sprint? Too bad, but still a good second place. Maybe you can take revanche in Roubaix.

Hey, Ian! it's amazing where you took this story! 114 pages?? I still remember at the start of this story you said that you will do atleast 100 pages. Well look at you! It's great to see Stijn dominating classics in 2015. I see that they are riding for Garmin now hope they are having a great time there...
I know I wasn't replying past 2 months or so. So I don't know that much. I will try to jump back. I wont be able to read it all. Only if I had a day or two for that
Anyway keep it up. Here is what you earned:
3 bannanas!!! that's how great this story is. |

That was an unlucky day for Stijn.... 2nd is a great result, but not with all the bad luck (I mean the puncture, as bad positioning isn't bad luck).

Amazing story so far Ian. Pity about the flat tires at the Ronde. But maybe Paris-Roubaix will provide Stjin's first Monument win. |
