Tour of Beijing

The last race on the WT-calendar might not be the most prestigious one, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most important to the four teams still battling to avoid relegation.
Tissot, Selle Italia, ISD – Ferrari and Omega Pharma – Quickstep are all within 50 pts on the last four places in the rankings.

A nice little TT to get going. Usually one of the most decicive days for the GC.

It’s the first day for Alex in his new jersey and he does it justice by setting best time 26 seconds faster than Pinotti.

Durbridge is one of the few riders expected to challenge Alex today, but he only gets provisional 5th place 22 seconds behind.

Westra is the first rider to get within 20 seconds of Rasmussens time. That’s enough for a 2nd place.

At first the other teams had things under control, but then with 50 km to go they lost grip of the break and it was our turn to do some work.

Going into the final 3 km five riders still had a small gap to the peloton.

Alex reeled them in the last bit with his leadout.
Breschel is looking strong, but so is Sagan in his wheel.

Now we will look forward to the hilly stage tomorrow where Jakob need to secure his place in the GC allowing him to pass Andy Schleck on 3rd place in the WT-rankings

The most important stage for the GC…

The early break was a bit stronger than first estimated, so Fuglsang, Sørensen, Riis and Matzen has to go to the front to work already on the first set of climbs.

They reduce the peloton to 33 riders, but Alex is among the ones lost behind in the leaders jersey.

30 km left. The break has just been caught when Pirazzi decides to counterattack.

Westra goes after him.

We quickly reel the duo back in and then Fuglsang is off on his own.

Magazzini counterattacks him and Jakob is reeled back in by the other favourites.

In the end Fuglsang just doesn’t have it today and has to let go of the main group with Chris, Matti, Brian and Thomas on the final summit.

How Matti managed to get boxed in in this sprint I’ll never fully understand…

Miguel: It's plenty as it means Fuglsang will pass Schleck in the rankings. Of course playing the two last stages to perhaps get Breschel the win would have been nice as well...
