Man, strava for running sucks big time. It just counted the first of three laps. Not really sure what I did wrong. I got a message of GPS fuzzy afterwards, but it obviously worked the first ten minutes.
EDIT: I suppose it was my own/my phone's fault as it may have deactived GPS while running. No idea how that stuff happens but I should really do manual keylock next time.

I hate the cold. Slow ride of course, but mainly because of snow covered roads, darkness and mtb. Used about half an hour to warm my hands when I got home... |

So seems like winter has hit my region too. Woke up and snow everywhere. No reason to put away the bike though I guess.

I was about to go out for a ride yesterday but found I had a flat tire. I didn't have time to fix it so I went for a run instead
I have replaced the inner tube now and should be able to go out for a ride tomorrow |

Every year my cycling season is highlighted in a trip to the mountains of France.
This year, no trip unfortunately
Until my sister and her husband asked me to join them at a mansion they're renting for a few days. Mont Ventoux at striking distance! |

Yeah?
My favorite mountain is Col d'Allos. Because that's the climb where I had the best legs ever once. I just passed everyone, going twice as fast as most other cyclists there. It was a great day I did it on a Friday morning, when there are no cars allowed before noon. The downhill was incredible without traffic! |

Hah I've had a bad experience on that one. Did you do it from Barcelonnette? I did it from the other side at the end of the long loop where you do the Cayolle and Champs and I completely bonked 2km from the top, and had to crawl all the way back to Jausiers. I met a French kid at the bottom and we rode up most of it together, but I had to tell him to just leave me behind when I started dying . I think that's still the worst hole I've ever dug myself into riding. It was fun though!
That's awesome that you'll get to do the Ventoux. Sounds like it will be an amazing trip.

Man, if there's one thing I hate, it's going downhill through tunnels while cars pass you all the time. I'm really scared in these moments.

My last ride my hands have never been colder. It wasn't that cold (around 4C) but heavy rain for 2 hours meant I had to peel the gloves off at one point and rub my hands together and blow on them furiously just so I could work the brakes and gears on the way home
On the upside I've managed to clock up 300km for January which is the first time my casual riding self has ever broken that particular barrier. |

Later this year, in June, I'll be riding the Elfstedentocht. With 240kms in length it's quite tough and I currently do +-8kms per day, from and to school. Any advice on how to start?

Go out for a 40km odd ride and see how that goes and gradually build up from there. Join a club fairly soon. Enjoy it above all. |

240 km at once or in several times ? That's a huge lot, even for those of use who do the longest rides. |

Wow. That's a bad experience: p yeah, Les Trois Cols is that ride. Cayolle is so beautiful, though, right?
Ventoux will be fun. Last time my dad was there, a couple years ago, he climbed all sides on one day, might be a fun challenge. Though one side a day may be enough for me |

@selwink I'm sure it can be done but whether you want to try and go from 20 minute rides to around a 10 hour ride in the space of less than 6 months is another matter. Maybe something for next year?
That's if I've interpreted your post correctly. If so well build up gradually and see how things go. Best of luck and let us know how you get on

If it's really 240 km at once, you'll need to spend a lot of time on the bike prior, just to get your body used to cycling.
Also you'll need to do long rides to develop endurance as much as you can.
Next thing : VO2 max build up. It might sound absurd as you won't do VO2 max efforts during a 10h ride, but it's not. A given power says how fast you'll ride, but relate it to VO2 max, it'll give a percentage, which will define your energy source, fat mass or sugar (glycogen). You'd better use your fat mass as much as possible during such a long ride, which means cycling at a lower intensity during the ride, but being able to do much more intense work at the time of the effort.
On the same idea, you need a pedalling movement whose efficiency is related to what your intensity will be. 70 RPM, or maybe 75 is ideal for such long efforts.
Last thing : muscular workout. It's so long it'll whack your muscular fibres, so you'd better strengthen them as much as you can before you go. |

Yeah, Ventoux is great! Rode there in 2010, the year before I started to ride seriously. Still the best feeling I have got on the bike. Wanted to ride from all the sides, but unfortunately we did not have time, so I had to stop after the Bedoin. |

What I heard from friends who did it last year was that they rode 30kp/h pretty much the entire time, as they had to wait for the stamp posts (there's 10 of them), so it isn't 240km at once.
Anyway, thanks for the advice, I'll start training as soon as I have the time for it.
