Menchov will not last all the way.

I *think* I heard the commentators using the words "Rogers" and "mechanical" in the same sentence a little while before he passed the first time check. Now, I don't speak Italian, but could this be correct and explain his time loss to a degree?

He has a tendency to start way too fast and blow up, yes. Not always, though

Slightly dissapointing by Basso so far, I had expected him to do better, at least up the first climb. Will be intersting to see how long Garzelli's time will stand, he lost quite a bit of time to Gianni on the last part. Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Menchov blow up slightly in the end, we've seen him overestimating his powers before.

Considering how long this stage is and the fact that he has an 18 second lead, I doubt he will keep up the pace through the whole 61 km.

Sastre loses 4 seconds on Basso. Pellizotti wins around 45 seconds on sastre at the same point
