Double Feature | THE END
wogsrus
Chin up, would take 4th every day of the week at a race like this.

rogvi97
Tough luck mate, but why does it happen? I always got teams to help for those scenarios or even try to follow one of them with one of my teammates to let pressure off from my team (BMC)

I had expected more but still a good race

just one word: damn Sad
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

Ian Butler
Bikex - That's the difference between Cavendish and Stijn, I guess Pfft

Jesleyh - He might get the Cancellara/Merckx/Sagan-syndrome: everyone against him!

Jakstar22 - I agree...

wogsrus - The result is good, but the way they races was not nice, I think Pfft

rogvi97 - I've no idea. My save-game is a little more bugged than usual lately.

krisa - Thanks! You can't win everything.

PCM rulezz - Exactly my thought, but Stijn will make it up in Harelbeke!

Stijn: This is a special feeling, I'm returning to this classic to defend my victory. I think I can do it, too!

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

Luck was on my side, today! The weather was rainy and the peloton split up pretty early.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/er02_zpse6cb88f3.jpg

Thomas tried to get away and it got dangerous for a while!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/er03_zpsdfb00ba4.jpg

But both Omega Pharma and we took our responsibility and worked on the chase.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/er04_zps3e2fa517.jpg

Just when we caught the break, there was a moment of doubt. I used that to attack, on a cobbled hill! I know these hills inside out since I was raised on these hills. I used my knowledge to gain a lot of time soon!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/er05_zps437748bc.jpg

It took a while before a proper chase was organised. Only when a group came back on the main road, after all the small, cobbled roads, a proper chase got on its feet.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/er06_zps92ffd041.jpg

I'm pretty sure they would catch me. But then the cooperation seized to be. People starting thinking about podium places, there was some bluffing and with less than 10 km left to go, they were practically presenting me the win!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/er07_zpsfcbcd6cd.jpg

Eventually Boonen put the speed back in the group, but it was way too late. 2 on a row, amazing!

Aftermath

Today I used my life-long experience of these roads to the maximum advantage. The fact that they hesitated made it work perfectly and so I add another classic to my palmares! Tom Boonen is still record holder here with 4 victories.

Flash Interviews:

Sporza: Stijn Van Gent, another race, another win. What's the secret of your success?
Stijn Van Gent: I just work really, really hard and put a lot of time in the preparation of a race.
Sporza: You finish with a spectacular 30 km solo. What were you thinking the moment you split from the peloton?
Stijn Van Gent: I knew what was coming, and those small roads are not necessarily in the disadvantage of a lone rider.
Sporza: Are you the top favorite for the Ronde?
Stijn Van Gent: I don't know if I can be a top favorite if I've never won it before. I'd rate myself under Boonen and Cancellara for next week, but we'll see. I feel good.

Sporza: Tom Boonen, you finish third. Omloop second, Kuurne second, now third. Are you frustrated?
Tom Boonen: (laughs) No, no. At my age, nothing has to happen anymore. I just do the best I can.
Sporza: Last year it was coming, but it seems the moment has come. Is the new generation overtaking Tom Boonen?
Tom Boonen: Some of the young guys, especially Stijn, have a lot of power, I won't deny that. But I still have some aces up my sleeve and I won't give up without a fight.
Sporza: Ronde Van Vlaanderen, Paris - Roubaix?
Tom Boonen: I'll be there, don't worry about that.
Sporza: We're looking forward to it, thanks!
Tom Boonen: Thanks!

Gent - Wevelgem is the day after tomorrow. This year's profile features less cobbles and hills, it might even end in a mass sprint!
See you then,
Stijn

Well, they did not work for Stjin in Milano Sanremo but they did not work against Stijn in E3 - Harelbeke. Good luck for the next classics Wink

admirschleck - Thanks Grin

tpinot - That's true, they did all right by me today Pfft thanks!

Daggen - Sure are a lot Belgian cobbled riders here, very true.

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

The race was pretty boring until an important moment. Phinney in the attack!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw02_zpsa30f337a.jpg

On a long cobbled road, someone took a fall right near the front. The result: a major split and we were positioned near the front when it happened!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw03_zps94433a66.jpg

We didn't wait, obviously, and in the end, a group came together that consisted of the strongest of the day. Those who were able to come back with me and Vanmarcke... And then it started. Nobody relayed, everyone was looking at us.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw04_zpse58fe684.jpg

Bluffing was not an option, a smaller peloton was coming, with Cavendish on board!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw05_zpsfc27bd34.jpg

There were attacks and after 5 km, Vanmarcke was thrown over board. I was isolated, while Van Avermaet still had a man. But he did nothing. I asked people to relay, they wouldn't, so I bluffed... and Cancellara attacked.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw06_zps619c4b87.jpg

Nobody reacted, so I went in the chase, but it was too late.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw07_zpsc9f97833.jpg

I pushed out one hell of a sprint, but the damage was done. Again I get fooled by the entire peloton and I'm not strong enough to take them on myself.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/gw08_zps33cd3810.jpg

While Spartacus celebrated, I cursed.

Flash Interview:
Sporza: Stijn Van Gent, you finish second, missing the win by a couple of bike lengths, how does it feel?
Van Gent: Doesn't feel good. Everyone's just riding against me. In the end, the peloton was full of cowards, and if they continue this, I won't do anything anymore. If they do this in the Ronde, I won't drag them along with me. Thanks.

Well. I was kind of angry giving that interview, but I still stand by it. If nobody will ride with me in the Ronde, I won't do any work either. I hope some riders will come to reason.

See you for the Panne - Koksijde,
Stijn

Tour of Catalunya

The Tour of Catalunya has come to an end. Martin missed his start by losing 5 minutes in the first two stages. He clawed his way back into the top 5 by winning stage 4. The final stages were exciting and in the end, he had to settle for a second place, not bad!

Not that I'd dare to criticise you ( Pfft ), but if you feel that there's no one else in the peloton working, why don't you go ahead and counter the Cancellara attack (or the Breschel one at MSR, for that matter)? Might be worth a try Wink

Ian Butler
Well, there were like 5 attacks, I followed every one of them. Then Cancellara attacked. Same in Milan - San Remo, there were multiple attacks. When I follow it, everyone leeches of me, if I don't follow it once, they get away and win Frown I've started a thread about this because the AI is pretty buggy lately. I try to make a nice report about it here, but if I would make the real report about what happened, you'd see the AI is buggy as hell. Instead I tried to make it just that Cancellara attacked and nobody followed.

Nah Ian, without screens, you have no evidence!!! You were just lazy, trying others to chase. Just admit it!!

Seems like they don't dare taking Stijn to the line anymore. Maybe it's time to send Vanmarcke ahead and force the others to do something?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

sutty68
Stijn has now got that ''Danger Man'' tag, which is a good thing right Wink

wogsrus
Just too good that people are scared of you. Take it as a compliment. Pfft

Jesleyh
Dumb AI.
It will be a hard Ronde for Stijn like this.
Great win in E3 though!
And nice that Mollema won Catalunya Pfft
