So, after riding the Motirolo brilliantly, Arroyo saw that he was way up with the GC guys and still feeling good, and then proceeded to blow all of his energy on the descent.
Then, he has to wait up for Evans/etc, and try to use their help to get up the final 13k.
Only problem? Evans/etc. are hurting even more than Basso/Nibali/Scarponi from the suicide pace up the Moti, and have absolutely nothing left.
If Arroyo saves a little more energy on the descent, he catches the same group, doesn't have to wait up, and then might even have the ability to ride away from them a little bit at the end of this 13k.
As it is, he's out of energy, stuck with a bunch of guys who are out of energy, chasing three guys who are slightly less out of energy.
Well, as an old spanish proverb says: "If my grandmother had wheels, she wouldn't be my grandmother but a car"

and here in the good old US of A, I've never heard that proverb before in my life
but anyway, perfect tactics from Arroyo on the climb, ok but not excellent afterwards. To keep the jersey he needed perfect throughout (and even that is a dicey bet). |

Basso could be in pink by quite some distance. And this top 3 on the road is looking like a likely podium now. |

Nibali is climbing on the list too. Isn't he top 3 now since Evans lose so much?
