Apparently, Arroyo also wanted to wait for those behind him and Vino.
Evans, Sastre and Gadret is only 10 seconds behind

Liquigas is going to have to blow up the field very early tomorrow.

I normally don't like this 12 minutes gain in a random stage to get a podium place. However, Arroyo has been great. Quite a brave effort to defend the maglia rosa and that is remarkable.

Joined but they are climbing now... it isn't as helpful in mountain than on flat to be more.

They're going to have to try and drop the entire Caisse team on the Livigno, which would make for an insane stage.
Ironically, it was their team strength that screwed them over today. When they turned to their domestiques on the bottom of the Motirolo and said "alright guys, blow yourselves out," the pace went up way too high, which is coming back to haunt them right now. |

I had the same feeling but the way Arroyo is riding now. It's very impressive. Giving everything to keep the jersey.

It worked when they did it to drop Contador in 2008 at 60kms from the finish.
Sadly, they then relaxed and rode easy to the last climb and Contador got back on.
If they hadn't been idiots, Contador would've lost 5 minutes that day. He was being distanced by Jurgen Vandenbroeck...
Aaaah the memories.

So Isso or CT. How much can Basso gain on Arroyo at the TT?

And nevertheless, I think Liquigas did what they had to do today. It wouldn't have done any good for them if they hadn't ride so hard at the Mortirolo. Their advantage at the bottom, if any, wouldn't be so high, so to speak.

So, after riding the Motirolo brilliantly, Arroyo saw that he was way up with the GC guys and still feeling good, and then proceeded to blow all of his energy on the descent.
Then, he has to wait up for Evans/etc, and try to use their help to get up the final 13k.
Only problem? Evans/etc. are hurting even more than Basso/Nibali/Scarponi from the suicide pace up the Moti, and have absolutely nothing left.
If Arroyo saves a little more energy on the descent, he catches the same group, doesn't have to wait up, and then might even have the ability to ride away from them a little bit at the end of this 13k.
As it is, he's out of energy, stuck with a bunch of guys who are out of energy, chasing three guys who are slightly less out of energy. |

Basso might get the maglia rosa today after all... The bonus seconds unfortunately seems to be the key today. |
