Just bought a 2nd-hand Merida Reacto Team from a friend. Bike is still quite new and has a really low mileage. It comes with Sram S40 wheels. After ~8th ride, the front rim cracked for now apparent reason. After browsing the web in search of a replacement, I noticed that many other people had the same problem. So a note to everyone out there:
Stay away from SRAM wheels!
Spoiler Strange that SRAM makes such a low quality wheel seeing as Zipp is owned by SRAM.

Has the world gone wrong or... just browsing through Strava, there's a local guy doing 70 to 90 km rides once in a while, he's ranked behind me on most segments, etc.
I clicked on his profile, just by curiosity. It says he belongs to Team Novonordisk (the diabetics team). I thought he had just joined their Strava group, for the fun of it. So I checked on the team website. He's there. I already thought the amateurs level has gone down for I last raced a dozen of years ago, but this beats everything.
And it's not just me who beat him, but he equates other local tourists. There's just one KOM that I don't think to be able to take away from him.
edit : he's only 18, but not sure that's relevant. It's not like he's 13.

@ Aquarius sign up for Novonordisk!
Just belatedly realised the importance of setting a known starting elevation point when commencing a ride using a Garmin 500
I guess the important thing is that total ascent remains accurate anyway but when trying to make some pretty profiles with Mesmeride I suddenly realised that elevation points were up to 500 feet out on some rides!
Also I would check out the detailed activities page on Veloviewer - looks like even more impressive info there after an update to the site. |

Sounds like a great look!
Not that I've been out at those extreme temperatures but can't say the heat has ever really bothered me on a bike - the self generated fan effect as you ride does the trick (admitedly this might not be sufficient through 40C!). |

Personally I prefer to ride when it's colder too and you can pack in yourself real nice. Hopping through villages like some sort of lunatic on the bike and grandmas look at you weird, it's just a nice feel.

You guys like extremes. A weather hot enough to ride in short sleeves and short legs is fine enough.
Depending on where I'm riding, I might struggle to find water (in public toilets), so high temperatures are not always great, and neither is melted tarmac on descents. I'd say the bad aspects of riding on the cold are the very opposite (risks of ice, excessive clothing, etc.).
All in all, I prefer heat by far.
Not related, but I just punctured twice. Without riding outside. First time after one minute on the home trainer (the tube had been fixed, the patch sort of blew), second time after changing the tube, it got pinched between the tyre and the rim (damn those tools). |

Ah, those scared the shit out of me when I went to the Pyrénées in 2007. Especially when it rained. But fact is no wheel got stuck in them.
What's that location of yours : "menhir trail" ? Not sure "menhir" makes sense in many languages. It does in one I know though. |

damn'it keep forgetting that a lot of things on my account are connected to my avatar, Menhir Trail is the location you can find eevee in the newest pokemon games (didn't use the road # for spoilers)
edit: wasn't Menhir those stones Obelix always carried in the comics?
edit #2: yeah stupid reason is stupid

Argh, Pokemon. Somebody kills me. Now.
"Menhir" means "long stone" in Breton, and that's the word for a tall vertical stone. Obelix, Asterix and their village are living in the current Brittany, and Obelix indeed works as a menhir carver, and often carries one of them. |

More weather moans. I'd glady take hot or cold just no more rain! Five or six badly flooded roads the other day and two completely impassable. Especially enjoyed a couple of drivers flying towards me ploughing a huge, knock you off, sized wave in my direction.
The weather (like the Romans - I loved Asterix!) is crazy! |

Got out for a mid-exam ride this afternoon.
Legs were feeling good, but I still have a lot of work to do the next 6 weeks if I want to start the Classic Cyclo's (Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Dwars Door Vlaanderen, E3) in what I would call a reasonably good shape.
Plus, my Garmin HR monitor is acting up, measured it by hand one time during the ride, my reading was 40 beats too low.
Well, back to studying for the next 10 days I guess, maybe some small rides in between.

Wanted to go out for a training ride in the hills around we're I live this morning. Decided to abandon after 10 minutes when I couldn't see 10 metres in front of me because of rain
I tried to simulate the ride on my Turbo Trainer but it's not quite the same
Hopefully the weathers better tomorrow and I can try again
