just a few updates as i am bored an in anticipation for the new PPDB
John Terry will miss the first month of the season with a knee injury (fairly obvious as he isn't playing in the Community Shield which is on now)
William Gallas is the new Arsenal captain following Henry's departure to Barça ()
Becks has said he will put Galaxy before England and will only focus on Galaxy and won't be concerned about his England place (to be honest if i was on 96 England caps i would focus more on England for 4 more games)
and the current score of the Community Shield is as follows
Chelsea 0 - 0 Manchester United (34mins gone)

I'm an often contributor on soccerpulse forums. it's the biggest football community on the web. so I will be now 100% serious:
even though this is my personal opinion, don't take it as such. take it as the opinion of nearly every member there, since that is what it is:
the premiership is great to watch in a one-off game. it never stops. it's like ping-pong . one attack here, another attack on the other side immediately. it never stops. and for that it's exciting.
but watch it with any sort of frequency whatsoever and it's mind bendingly boring.
because every single play is about punting the ball into the box and hoping that someone gets a head or a toe to it.
yes, it's a cliché. the reason clichés are so popular is that most are true. and this one is too.
the english are convinced that they have a great and amired league. they don't. they simply believe the hype of their own media. the same media that today claims that Arsenal's Eduardo will struggle to adapt because he came from "the Croatian league which is similar in level to English League One". wrong. it's much higher in level to League One.
you may believe the hype of english media as you wish, but this is the same media that before every important european game that involves an english club suddenly is filled with scorn by other teams and players. sound familiar?
how many times do you see in the papers that [insert the other team's name] have scorned english football and the english team that they're about to play? many times, no doubt. but it's all lies. because it's part of the culture in the english media. to lie, cheat and steal to make sure the english fans and players feel as they're being mistreated or treated as underdogs. it's all a pack of lies.
and the same applies to the "quality" of the english league.
yes, it's exciting. the same way a marathon is exciting. is a marathon exciting in terms of technical skills? of course not. same applies to the english league.
kick and rush is an exaggeration and not what happens. but punting the ball into the box play after play bypassing the midfield is the reality.
Even Arsenal who are supposed to play short passing football, in fact do not much more than exchange a few short passes before - you guessed it - punting the ball into the box and - exactly - hoping somebody gets a toe or a head to it.
Manchester United, which some english fans actually consider the epitome of attacking football. do me a favor. take ANY of their games. of all the chances they create, do a statistic of how many of those DON'T come from counter-attacks. very few. and that my friends is the reason that they lost against Inter this week. the reason they lost the FA cup against Chelsea. put in front of them a team that gives no space for counter-attacks and they will do nothing.
whether you like it or not, it's up to you. if you love it, great! that's what matters.
but don't think for a moment that your league is anywhere close to the top ones.
any football fan that takes more than just a passing interest will have a much greater interest in watching the Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and even the German league before they do the english.
the markets for the english league are mostly the casual fan that like the all-action style and the eastern european markets where people are used to the direct style of play used in england.
please, PLEASE. look aside from what the english media tells you. think for yourself and realise that it's all hype.
hope that cleared up general views on english football
I'm off to take a bath (since I was melting outside) and watch what's left of the Community Shield. since it's still a very interesting game

just watching the Com Shield as i still don't have Sky
and i still think you're wrong and will maintain that i think the English Leagues are the best in the world and no matter what anyone else says i will always think that, as i have watched Portuguese, Spanish, Brazilian, Argentinian, Australian, African, French, German, Italian and many more leagues and have found them extremly boring compared to the Premiership, especially the Spanish
and no not all teams play the long ball, most play exceptionally good and exciting football and that is why i love football and especially Enlish league football NOT because of the media
now feel free to say how wrong i am, but if you do that i still won't take any notice as i love English football and it is no way played in the long ball style, unless it is needed badly
the current score in the Com Shield is currently 1-1

as I said above: "if you love it, great! that's what matters"
but don't tell me it's not long ball when we're both right now watching a game that is nothing but exchanging passes in midfield...and then punt into the box.
I have yet to see one play in this game in which the teams have reached the box by any other means than a long ball or a cross

unfortunatley i still disagree
but lets just leave it there, you think one thing, i think another just a difference in opinions
anyway Malouda and Giggs are the scorers and Nani came on around 5mins ago for Silvestre, now there are 15mins left and looking like extra time and pens

look out for Nani. he'll be Torres' main rival for biggest bust of the season.

considering english people's aptitude for languages I wouldn't complain if I were you
by the way...why are you watching chinese? ESPN is the way to go
anyway, Porto's game will start now, so I'll stop watching this.
here's my take on the game so far:
Johnson had an above average pre-season. here's the thing: IT's PRESEASON!!
he is a horrible defender. Evra is his only opponent and is making him suffer right now. if Ronaldo or Giggs gave Evra a little support, that flank would be the death of Chelsea. but there are no other options right now. especially with Ferreira injured.
and Ferreira is no solution right now because he is off-form. not that he can't handle a game. the man is a phisical freak. no one has as much stamina as him. he could play every game in a season and still be fresh.
but mentally he doesn't cut it right now.
they need a full-back. and the only solution seems like Daniel Alves. which is a bad one since he's got the same defensive problems as Johnson. he's just a phenomenal offensive contributor. Chelsea will continue to have a weakness at right fullback, it seems.
the amount of times Johnson keeps United attackers onside is surreal. the rest of the defense advances to get them on the offside trap. and Johnson sits still like he has no idea what's happenning. pathetic.
that said, Man Utd's only chance at the title is if Chelsea have the horrendous amount of injuries they did last season. which is not only a possibility (considering how many phisically unsafe the english game is for players), but is already happening. they had 12 players out for this game. |

something that I think should be mentioned:
this weekend marks the start of the first edition of the Portuguese League Cup
and my local team (I may do 99% of all relevant things of my life in Porto, but my house is in a satelite "city" that is actually part of Porto, yet officially a different city. complicated, I know.) is playing.
but the important part is really that we finally have a new competition

When I saw that they're gonna be penalties I was sure Chelsea were about to lose, with Liverpool in the Champions League they had the same fate and if I remember well there were other penalty shoot-outs in the past that Chelsea lost. |

Gondomar SC. ten years ago they made it out of the regional leagues for the first time.
ten years and 2 other promotions later, they're an established second-tier team who always does top5 but never challenges for promotion due to a shoestring budget.
but the thing that we pride ourselves on:
the team's best players hardly ever leave because they know they'll be paid on time every month over here |
