Don't assume that. I have absolutely no idea.

When that happens, is there just no jersey for the next year? Or do they award it to the 2nd place guy from the national championships? |

Bill Stapleton thinking .. Giro and TOC is in the same time..Giro is nice race. But americans will like to see us..so TOC...he has a logic.
But how you even can compare these two races..probably he dont know that there is small spanish ProTour village race also at the same time..
Aah who cares..
They need protour license because it is quarantee for TdF ticket..wrong again..protour license is not GT ticket..
Lance is..!
I think you're misreading some of that.
It's not which race Radioshack will be in... it's which race LANCE will be in. Lance isn't going to be riding to win either of those races. California is LEvi's race... plain and simple. He's going to be the leader and that's all there is to it.
Lance will be caring only about the Tour... everything else is basically a means to that end.
So in that case... it's more a matter of what the sponsors want. If lance is happy riding California for Levi, then a couple of other races... and that's what the sponsors want... that's what he'll do.
It is odd he doesnt' know that a PT licensce won't get him entry into the Tour. |

Other than the entirety of the American squads, and several pro tour squads and pro conti ones. Just because guys you see in the TdF aren't turning up (though a lot have, and will continue to), doesn't mean it's not 1) a great race, 2) a hard race to win, and 3) a race not worth having on your palmares.
I think a win in the ToC would be a great achievement for a first year squad. Especially an American based one. The advertising turnover from that for "The Shack" would be out of this world.

Yes, even in May.
You have to understand that Levi is from California and that it's basically suited toward his abilities. The key stage is always a time trial and it's always one suited to his style. The climbs are gentle enough that he can't be dropped (unlike the bigger european races).
He's won it 3 years in a row (in 4 years of existance). Of the 33 leaders jerseys in the event... he's had the jersey on his back 22 times. If not for a bad TT day in 2006 (and a doped out Landis performance), he could easily have won 4 times.
I believe Levi will be in the same sort of shape he was in for the Giro this year when he rides the Tour of California. With lesser climbs and more importance on the time trial... he's likely to win again. |

Well, Vinokourov got a contract at Astana after all, and he's now on the reserve list for the Vuelta. Who knows... I'm sure they'll at least try to get him in the race.
But I doubt it'll happen. |

Sponsor Pressure would get him in i'm guess.
I hope not, beats me how he's been welcomed back with open arms in various press i've been reading. I'd rather never see him back. (Same with all dopers though)

Good point. I am sure he hasn't always been a doper, and thus is still a good rider, hence his good results since comeback. It's as though he never cheated to many of those people and still a national hero......Look at Tyler Hamilton or other dopers....many people lost complete respect for him. |
