Stage 16
Chieti - Blockhaus

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0001-11.gif
By kilometers, this stage was incredibly short. The first 44 kilometers of this course were almost perfectly flat, followed by a slight increase in gradient for the next 16, followed by an exceptionally steep final 23 kilometers.

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0003-10.gif
..and final climb..Liquigas at the front ..they are planning something for Nibali. Where is Pellizotti anyway ..he started a tour well enough..now Nibali has taken over team leader role..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0004-10.gif
Pozzovivo is one nervous fellow..he has atacked first almost on every mountain stage..Botcharov follows..17km. to go..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0005-10.gif
15.6 klm. to..Leon Sanchez, Garate and Garzelli

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0006-11.gif
..LPR controlling a race..this is steady and fast pace... Plaza has a small problems already to keep up..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0007-10.gif
Soler atacked..he has cought Garate and Pozzovivo 12km. to go..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0008-10.gif
There is 10km. banner..Guerra decided to continue with own speed..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0009-9.gif
Soler has left Pozzovivo and Garate behind..he is going alone now..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0011-10.gif
Di Luca has taken main group lead position and pull hard..and Plaza is out of the game..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0012-10.gif
Di Luca is absolutely destroyed that group..he has cought Garate and Pozzovivo..looks like only Liquigas riders (Nibali and Pellizotti) can follow..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0013-10.gif
..and he just keep on going..only Pellizotti left..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0014-10.gif
This was surprise..Pozzovivo has energy to atack again..he passes even Di Luca

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0015-10.gif
Liquigas guys will share a water..and will need to take a final kick..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0016-7.gif
at the begind Guerra has catched Plaza..and will help him..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0017-9.gif
..and Nibali atack..can you believe it..he atacked against he's own teammate..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0018-11.gif
Di Luca passes Soler just before final km. marker..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0019-11.gif
..and takes stage win..is it nr. 7? At least he has won on every mountain top finish..

Plaza is out of the podium..and Isido Nozal was today out of time limit..
Trussov was also outside time limit..so Carlos Nozal is back as GC last man..

Great story Guido!

Wow, Di Luca keeps on winning, maybe the AI has some clever way of replicating real life and has Di Luca on something 'special'. How is anyone supposed to compete with that?

Stage 18
Sulmona > Benevento

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0039-11.gif
The field faced a climb after just 20 kilometers in this stage, but following a long and technical descent from it, the course was gently undulating course without any other categorized climbs. It was thought that this stage would favor the Giro's remaining sprinters

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0040-12.gif
This was planned as sprinter stage..at the first time..there was just grazy speed and atack..after atack..riders like Plaza and Guerra also inside red zone..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0041-9.gif
Efimkin takes kind of victory there..he takes hill top first...

Another 3d crash after finish..why is this always happes when I do well..
all stage tempo was real fast..and Pinto was looking so exausted 15km. before the sprint..Plaza who has been so sharp lately when he needed to sprint..gonna go today..and earn the right to wear points jersey..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0042-11.gif
He followed..Di Luca..then decided to go early and find himself at the front even before 1km. banner...sprinters..specialy Boonen tryed hard..but this stage was just to much for sprinters legs. Stage win nr. 3 for Plaza..he is for shure one of the Giro stars..

Last mountain stage tomorrow Mount Vesuvius..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0045-8.gif

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0046-8.gif

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0044-10.gif
another sign how grazy that so called sprint stage was..Bronco and our hero C. Nozal is out of the timelimit and tour..both Nozal's are stoped the race..

Stage 3
Birnbach

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0047-10.gif
..another perfect profile for Rodrigues who is in top shape..small hills witch is to hard for sprinters. Correct counter atack..and chantches to get away again..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0048-10.gif
puncture..he is strong man and can get back easy..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0049-10.gif
Kairelis staring early today..he atacked first and we have 43km to go..race has started..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0050-9.gif
16 to go..that was grazy 20km. where road rises over 2% atack followed..and that all the time. Finaly 19 riders get away..Rodrigues is in..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0055-10.gif
8km. to go..last small hil and as usual..atack..Alexander Gottfried atacking..Rodrigues follows..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0056-9.gif
Dirk Müller get into this group..almost same situation as yesterday..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0052-11.gif
Müller going first..Rodrigues follows..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0053-10.gif
side by side..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0051-10.gif
..and second stage win in the row..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0057-8.gif
It has been superb tour for us..tomorrow is 20km. TT..is that 30sec. lead enough?...
Don't think so..let's hope that yellow will give him extra boost..

Stage 19
Avellino - Vesuvio

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0059-8.gif
The first 151 kilometers of this stage saw rough undulation, with many uncategorized hills, including one at almost 500 meters in elevation. The final 13 kilometers saw a steep climb up to the famous Mount Vesuvius at 1000 meters.
Last mountain stage..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0060-7.gif
All day almost all CarmioOro - A-Style team has been close to the front..and planning something..weird. Will see..Stage first part tempo has been real low...

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0061-6.gif
80km. to go..Barloworld and Liquigas has moved to forward..tempo has changed now they are riding..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0062-6.gif
Breakaway group starting Vesuvio climb...Dessel at the front wont wait ..he is atacking..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0063-8.gif
Main group arrives..also with atack..Sörensen, Pardila, Leon Sanchez..that was what A Style team was planning all day?

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0064-8.gif
Botcharov atacked..Leon Sanchez counters..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0065-6.gif
Bruseghin follows...

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0070-5.gif
Then Morzano, Monfort, Codol..just Dessel is left at the front..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0069-5.gif
Soler atack..Di Luca and Nibali counter...they passing Botcharov.

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0074-6.gif
Carrara atacking..Plaza will keep he's head cool..he made a mistake on Blockhaus..when he followed to long Di Luca tempo..today ..different strategy. He just keep steady going..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0071-6.gif
Lonely stage leader..he probably won't manage to hold on..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0072-5.gif
Di Luca just keep on atacking..now he has passed last man Dessel and is after stage win nr. 8..Soler and Nibali in trouble already..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0073-6.gif
Situation is still ok for Plaza..no need to panic..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0075-5.gif
Soler and Nibali are back..now Soler takes a lead..tempo has slowed down..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0076-6.gif
atack...Simoni..wow ..this is hugh.he has cought lead trio..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0078-6.gif
Pozzovivo atacking after Di Luca group..is it Plaza?..he can almost touch Di Luca..great - great come back...and smart tactical decision..so far everything is perfect..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0077-6.gif
Nibali dont like this situation..another move

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0079-6.gif
Di Luca counter..now he has droped Nibali and Soler?...

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0081-5.gif
No..they are back again

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0080-5.gif
Plaza is pulling chase group..he does not have changed a rythm..same speed all the way up..
Simoni, Bruseghin are still ahead..
Behind Plaza..Pozzovivo, Siotsou, Astarloza, Carrara, Botcharov, Leon Sanchez, Garate..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0083-5.gif
Last km. Di Luca is playing with Soler and Nibali?...he let them lead..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0082-5.gif
Plaza starting last km. at the 4th. place..now all out..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0066-6.gif
Di Luca takes a stage win after all. This must be 8th.

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0067-6.gif
Plaza amazing ride..best Giro mountain stage and 4th today and also 4th in GC..

i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww68/teemeuue_2011/22/PCM0068-4.gif
Guerra..again great stage..he likes Giro 3rd week..today he finishes with Carrara and Botcharov..and is now moved to 17th. in the GC..

Two stages to run..tomorrow should be great for Plaza..tiny hill before the sprint..and uphill finish.he is ambition enough to atack Soler GC 3rd. place, at least try it...Rome TT will be Giro final.
