Great win by Cosnefroy in Paris - Camembert! It's exactly for these French races that I picked him, looks like a strategy paying off for once Smile Perez in 12th is also decent, doing a good job for a last round pick.

On the other hand, mixed feelings for DdV. Bettiol looked great and should have taken a podium at least - but maybe he returned to racing too early after his E3 crash and simply cramped - not something you see often. But his performance up to that point definitely leaves me hopeful for the two upcoming monuments.
Looking at the Top 10, I thought I'd end up with just some assist points from Askey for Küng's 3rd place - but no, Gautherat did an awesome job getting another 11th place after Omloop! And looking at WvA, I definitely shouldn't complain about this race anyway...

Finally a decent block again after two horrendous performances. Venturini with a second place in Paris-Camembert, Milan 4th and 7th in GW/DdV, Politt 7th in E3 and 12th in DdV, Albanese 9th and 11th in E3 and Paris-Camembert, Madouas 13th in DdV (though he's a terrible R1 pick so far), that should add up to a solid haul, even if the high end result is missing.

Hopefully the team can carry the momentum forward. I have some hopes for Venturini for Adélie de Vitre and Prades/Albanese for GP Indurain, the rest is just throwing stuff at De Ronde, but I believe only Madouas, Politt and Milan to have a real shot at points. We'll see.

Block 5 results

This was the biggest scoring block so far with 3 WT races. The Zondagcoureurs had the best E3, hoping to regain their lead after this block. Also good scoring from the Spokes and the W (with a W). In Wevelgem the W continued their good scoring, but so did the Racoons with Pedersen.

Then disaster struck. A lot of teams suffered from crashes in Dwars Door Vlaanderen. The Spokes won the race and the Rogues scored 2nd best, but the 18 points by van Aert will be the last he'll score this game. Finally Paris-Camembert saw good scoring by the Fainthearts and 59'ers.

Moving on to the rankings, we have a new leader! The Spokes had two really good races and take over the lead. Only 5 points lower are the Zondagcoureurs, but worse than losing the lead is losing Jasper Stuyven. The Cobblers can't keep up and drop to 3rd.

A good round by the Racoons gives them the 4th place, though they still have a few question marks before the Ronde. The Rogues are 5th but in dire need of a new leader to step up.

The Fainthearts had their best scoring in the only non-WT race, which is good and bad at the same time. The W are climbing and looking really good for Ronde as well. The Red Lanterns had a good round and climb back a bit.

The Macros only had minor scoring this round and must be wondering when Laporte will return to racing. Same goes for the Hornets who are probably regret picking De Lie now. Both teams will have to start scoring again to keep their top 10 spot.

At 11th we have the winners of this block, the 59'ers. Extremely solid scoring across 4 races. Will they be the comeback kids this year? The Hussars are 12th and I don't see them getting up before the Ardennes start. The same goes for the Ice Tulips as Pogacar won't start on sunday. In last place are still the Bombers, besides losing Vermeersch early on, they are also forced to watch Alaphilippe doing a Sagan decline.

5th doesn't look bad in the current standings, but with 7 teams being stronger in block 5 I guess that's just temporary... Furthermore, the R1-3 picks are either done with classics (Kooij) or have not been a factor yet (Welsford, Schmid). Not having a top classics specialist, we'll need lots of good results in smaller races going forward...

Schmid finally starts racing, after having apparently suffered from some knee issues. He and Barguil will be our cards in GP Indurain.
Bettiol, Bissegger, Gautherat and Askey are all in RvV, with Bettiol obviously being the biggest potential scorer. But Gautherat was great in DdV; hills and cobbles seem to suit him pretty well. He's our dark horse there.
Which leaves us with two more Frenchies; Cosnefroy will be in Adélie de Vitré, and Hofstetter in Limburg. Tronchon is on the bench again.

So there's a problem for race block 7, the Giro della Città Metropolitana di Reggio Calabria is canceled. The article was in Italian which I don't fully understand, but I think it's because the name is too long. My prefered solution is to add the Circuit de Wallonie at the end, but this of course means some races will move to an earlier block. Comment now, decision will be made tomorrow evening.

I think shifting the first race of each block would work pretty well. There would still only be a maximum of two WT/M races in each block, and yes the final block would be without one, but I think that's not too bad. Plus, it might even be beneficial to split up the triple header Besancon/Jura/Doubs in Block 8 - from what I can tell, many riders will ride all three, and (fantasy) teams that aren't represented well there have only one race to fall back on.

That said, if any players here drafted with that specific block in mind, or generally with very clear plans for the final three blocks that would be foiled by switching some of the races around, I also don't think it's a big deal to simply leave the upcoming block with just 3 races. I don't think Calabria would have made that much of a difference anyway, looking at the last few years' results.

And that Biermans win is probably the biggest point loss of the game so far. The worst part is he was my #1 sub and about an hour after the deadline Zingle got removed from the Ronde startlist.

Nice little 10 points from Venturini thanks to the assist to Biermans. Small correction on the calendar, the Tour du Doubs is on the 14th, parallel to AGR not to Jura.
