Tour de France 2008 starts with an opening prologue in Toulouse. It isn't very long, but it is long enough to let the GC-guns make seconds between themselves.

I had some expectations for this prologue, most of my riders are in great form, and with those TT-stats that are in my team, it will be hard to not perform well here. Maybe we can make our sponsor goal and win a stage at the very first day?

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0001-20.jpg

Andre Steensen from Denmark was our first rider off. His dream is to win Tour de France one time, but not this year. He will be a helper, but on this stage he gives it what he can. He ends 7th, 14 seconds behind todays winner.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0002-16.jpg

The next threat for a stage win today was Cancellara, but he seems out of shape as he only managed 13th, 22 seconds behind.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0004-15.jpg

Edvald Boasson Hagen was next, and he took the lead, and it will last for 5th on this stage, only 5 seconds behind the winner. I am really dreaming of getting him back to Maxbo Bianchi. It would be perfect!

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0003-16.jpg

Taylor Phinney, our superkid was our next, he is only a teenager and still, he is making his debut in Tour de France. Probably he is nervous, but he finished nice, ending inside top 10, 10th place, 19 seconds behind.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0005-13.jpg

Valverde hit the road for us quite late, unlucky he had a poor day and he couldn't fight for the stage win. He ended 6th, 11 seconds behind. Still, quite a good prologue, but it could have been better.

It was Vladimir Karpets from Caisse d'Epargne who took the stage win, he was two seconds ahead of Kreuziger, both had shown us that they won't be throwing balls in this Tour de France. Dave Z was our last rider on the road, and he secured us a great podium place, well done by him!

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0006-13.jpg

Karpets could celebrate the stage win, and the yellow jersey, good ride by him!

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0007-12.jpg

But we also had something to celebrate, we had 4 riders in the top 10 of the stage, and we took a clear lead in the teams classification, but we know that we will soon say goodbye to that lead.

Stage:

1 Vladimir Karpets CAISSE D'EPARGNE 9'22

Pervis won the TT in France....But I haven't got my jerseys, Valverde hasn't got the national jersey, do anyone know why?Sad

olabj
Yep, you`ll have to make it cause PCM07 doesn`t handle NC jerseys which isn`t in the team folder. don`t know why

Stage 2 is ranked as a flat stage, but there is a tricky hill inside the last ten kilometres. There might be some attacks there, and Valverde will probably follow. We will wait and see.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0008-13.jpg

The first action of today was the first sprint, Lampre and C.A had ensured that the peloton was all together for that sprint and it was Bennati who took it, in front of Hushovd.

Then a break formed for the day, and I putted Nordhaug in it. He was very close on taking the mountain jersey, he took 10 points, but Vaitkus took 11. (I forgot to picture the break...)

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0009-13.jpg

As predicted, some riders tried their luck on the final climb, and with only 6.7 km from the top of the climb to the finish line it was a good shot. It was Menchov from Astana who took off. Valverde followed. Valverde was very strong and he decended much better than Menchov, actually he had got a good gap to him and the peloton with 3 kilometres to go.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0011-12.jpg

But with 600 metres to go, he was surrounded by two norwegian vikingsPfft Hushovd was on his right and Boasson Hagen on his left. Those two will surely fight it out for the stage win.

i442.photobucket.com/albums/qq146/emberland_2008/PCM0010-13.jpg

Hushovd took the stage, ahead of Boasson, which meant that Boasson was going to wear yellow next stage. Valverde was able to follow Hushovd's will for third.

Stage:

1 Thor Hushovd CRÉDIT AGRICOLE 4h25'57
2 Edvald Boasson Hagen EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI s.t.
3 Alejandro Valverde TEAM MAXBO BIANCHI s.t.

What happened to Steensen?
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bampo.png

ember
Steensen isn't in top shape and is only in the Tour to hit the full 4th experience bar, so he hopefully can be a good contender in the Vuelta.
So I used him as a protector of Valverde with 90-80 kilometres to the line, that resulted in Steensen wasn't able to follow the peloton close to the finish...Rolling Eyes

I hope that you`ll put up a report on the next stages pretty soon
