Uh...guys...I hate to be "that guy", but....CLERC OUT IS HUGE NEWS WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING IT
Will someone please translate from the danish link why Clerc was fired?
This sucks. One less guy who despite being a jackass, truly believed in the good of cycling and actually had great ideas.
Really really sucks.
Now, I've just watched a two-and-a-half hour program on conspiracy theories. Here's one of mine: With Armstrong reported to be buying ASO, the departure of Clerc may just be another hurdle gone for Armstrong. Clerc seemed to be the grumpy old guy who would never allow Armstrong buying ASO. On the other hand, a guy like Prudhomme almost welcomed him as the home-coming son when he made his return public. Mind you, UCI would announce some kind of surprise during the World Championships. With Hein Verdrugghen being part of Armstrong's total-control plan, this may be the surprise UCI are looking at.
Now it's time for some slogans. "Tour de France was a lie", "Landis was a scapegoat, ASO the real villain" and "UCI killed Pantani".
Never.

personally i think Lance buying the ASO is bullshit
Secondly the ASO and UCI are making "bonds" says Pat McQuaid, in fact just yesterday he said "i expect the UCI and ASO will be working together within 2 weeks".
Perhaps one way to this was the UCI says "well say Clerc". And they did. The UCI i'd imagine would pose "sanctions" if they didn't. The UCI is full of threats.

In regards to Contador's remarks he is an ungrateful little punk....I love how people get to the top and then forget how they get there. Levi finished second because he is one of the best TT and grand tour riders in the world, not because he did not do any work for the little prince. I was a Contador fan until now.
Until now! You must be blind.. ...he has act over a year like having tatoo.."Hate me cycling fans!"
I suppose you are right, I just was hoping he was young and cocky but now he is acting like a royal.....well you fill in the blank. |

Now reading the original source, he doesn't say he'll leave, far from it:
Would you abandon Astana if they signed Armstrong?
We'll have to see, but right now I'm not going to renounce my results. My intention is to stay because I have a contract until 2010, although I have received a fair few offers from other teams

lance is going to be 37 - contador is 25 or 26. i don't think he has much to fear from lance. anyways, lance may only race for a season, depending on his results. But still, astana having possibly three top riders - that's going to be interesting.

I agree that he doesn't say it. but along the lines, it sounds likely. "We'll have to see" isn't exactly screaming: "I'll stay, I'll stay!!". Also, to me, the " I have received a fair few offers from other teams"-line is a threat directed at Bruyneel.
Anyway, we'll see. Armstrong joins Astana tomorrow, and then we'll just have to await Contador's response. |

We need the voice of reason in Horner to comment on all this Astana hoopla. |

I thought Astana had enough leaders this, but next year there is going to be so many. I would be surprised if the whole system fell apart. You can't go into the Tour de France with three main leaders its crazy, one for each would be the best. But neither of them will do that. Personally it should be work where Contador defends the Giro, Lance for the Tour, and Levi for the Vuelta (which he can obviously win) It will never work out and i think that there will be some bust ups next year in that team. And also wouldn't it be horrible for Lance if Conta gets caught on something. Nice comeback year eh? |

There's absolutely nothing into French medias about Clerc leaving or being fired from ASO. |

Hmm, it seems more and more likely that Armstrong will buy ASO. The news are spreading and going everywhere. He will buy it along with Hein Verbruggen.
But as said, we will know more later today after LA's press conference. |

Will he buy the Tour or ASO? I very much doubt he has the money to buy ASO. Not to mention what the hell would he want with Dakar, etc.
If he and Verbruggen buy the Tour, it'll be the darkest day in the history of cycling. Yes, I'm counting whatever other day you're thinking of.

According to Sérgio Paulinho of Astana:
- Klöden shouldn't have a problem with anything, he's the nicest guy ever;
- Leipheimer, though distant to everyone and never friendly with anyone, shouldn't raise a fuss as he's not a guy to rock the boat;
- Contador, though "a great guy to be around" won't like 'not being the man' one bit;

In the news that I have read, it's said that they (Armstrong and Verbruggen) are looking to purchase majority control of ASO.
The news origin from Sydney Morning Herald. This article: https://www.smh.co...05913.html

Either way, Evans blew his big chance. If he was ever going to win the Tour it was this year, and he blew it with a basic, basic, basic mistake.
For years I derided him for racing heavily and getting to the big races dead tired.
In 2007 he said he'd learned from that and raced a lot less. And indeed he got to the Tour in top form.
This year the idiot went back to doing a million races and that cost him the Tour.
He still would've won the Tour without the crash. It's clear the crash severely limited both his climbing and time trialling, but.....it's just stupid to do what he did.
I doubt he'll ever get another chance to win the Tour.

Interesting comments. I have never had a bad vibe come from Klöden he never seems to get extremly when he has to do the work for people of the likes of Contador. I personally trust Sérgio Paulinho and i think that these opinions are rather valid. Thanks for those isso |
