From what's in the different French media around here : Alonso claimed he wouldn't stay out a year, Briatore made an offer, Renault seems the most likely option, by far. I doubt he wouldn't want to be in another team with two drivers n°1, which he'd get at Ferrari (given Massa would be leaving), but not at Renault.
Kovaleinen will stay at Renault, that's 99% sure.
Toyota seems to have made Sutil their first choice to replace R. Schumacher (Montagny ), and indeed Rosberg would be replacing Alonso.
At the moment it seems we'd get :
McLaren (Hamilton, Rosberg)
Ferrari (Raikko, Massa)
BMW (Heidfeld, Kubica)
Renault (Alonso, Kova)
Williams (Wurz)
Toyota (Trulli, Sutil)
Toro Rosso (Vettel, Bourdais)
Honda (Barichello, Button)
Red Bull (Coulthard, Webber)
Spyker ()
SuperAguri (Sato)
I can imagine Fisicho joining Williams, Kartikheyan joining Spyker (on the verge to be signed it seems), and some random Japanese drivers filling the spots at Super Aguri and Spyker. |

well, Rosberg won't leave Williams this season, that's the only 100% certainty at this point.
as for Alonso, it's a fact he's been talking to Ferrari, but anything is possible at this point. Renault's problem is that Fisichella will of course refuse to terminate his contract before time.
As for Toyota, they have a knack for horrible decisions, so they will likely pass up signing Liuzzi. Glock has been in talks with them and according to BMW's Mario Theissen "BMW will have to find a new test driver, as Glock is about to sign for Toyota". not a bad signing.

Spyker is expected to turn into Team India next year, so there's a strong possibility Narain Karthikeyan can return to F1. Roldán RodrÃguez should be the second rider in Spyker.
And we're forgetting Team Prodrive. It'll be probably composed by PDLR and Paffett.

.
Karim Chandok is pretty much a given for them, the way he's been talking. could be as test driver...
EDIT: as for Prodrive, there's no new Concorde agreement...which means the last one rolls over to 2008. which means they're screwed because they won't be able to buy chassis from McLaren as they were planning to. Aguri and Toro Rosso are similarly screwed unless there's an emergency agreement.

Davidson will probably stay at Super Aguri but I hope he goes to McLaren, he deserves a decent car.

there's not really a chance of that. every time he tested for Honda or Williams he was quite below the required pace, so Aguri is his only bet. unless he improves and has a great 2008 of course.
he'll be a sportscar driver in just a few years.
Unless he decides to go to Touring cars, but he's far too good for that.

Hamilton is under investigation for poor driving behind the safety car in Fuji! He could potentially lose his 10 points or be demoted 10 places on the grid in China.
Webber and Vettel both complained about Lewis and Button was not too impressed either. It looks as if from the quotes that Lewis was a factor in Webber and Vettel's retirement.

This is a BBC link which has a video shot which includes the Webber/Vettel incident and how it could be Lewis's fault.

he's allowed to do what he likes, there isn't a rule that states you can't do what he did i don't think
so i can't see why he should be deducted 10 points, but then again i'm normally wrong

He has to stay within 5 lengths of the safety car, and in the video of the vettel/webber incident, he is a long way behind the safety car and making a really stupid move - going slowly to the right, forcing Webber to slow as he cant pass Hamilton behind the SC.

i didn't think backing up the field was against the rules though
Alonso has done it plenty of times in his career, but maybe i don't know all the facts
I agree it is unsporting but i'm not sure he should be deducted points for it, when Alonso does the same

Sure you can back up the field when the safety car comes in, but not on every single lap behind the safety car, which is what seems to be suggested by some drivers!

without having seen the videos: what he did falls under "dangerous driving". he should be penalised. he ruined potentially brilliant results for Vettel and a very ill Mark Webber

Webbber stated amilton fainted an abandon, suddently slowing down and heading to the right of the track, as if he would park his car there.
Webber considers Hamilton's move was dangerous and confusing, and that irresponsible behavious caused his crash.
Actually I didn't watch anything of it (what would my boss say if he rushed in the office and found me watching formula one ? ), but, first, Hamilton has already been known for being a twat, though, second, this looks like a lousy attempt to prevent him from becoming champion in China and manage the thrill till the last Grand Prix.

same goes for most top drivers unfortunately. and I can't even be happy that Ralf is gone, since an even bigger self-centered jackass has been signed by Toro Rosso for next year...

well, it's not like the FIA ever manipulates the championship...I mean, it's not like, for example, there are several former Benetton employers stating openly that Schumacher's Benneton had all sorts of illegal gadgets that the FIA ignored because they wanted to up the viewing figures with a new "hero" after the death of Senna...and it's not like even the car's designer Joan Villadelprat has stated that openly....and it's not like this whole paragraph has been sarcastic...
the president of the FIA is Max Mosley. his father had a reputation for being corrupt and he fills in his father's shoes admirably.

Hamilton on pole in Shanghai, then Raikkonen, Massa, Alonso under warm sunshine. a strange grid overall...
weather prediction for tomorrow: typhoon. that's right, typhoon.
and hopefully I'll be able to catch the race on a channel from a country with no top drivers...it's been british channels every time and it's getting annoying...every time it's "Hamilton Hamilton Hamilton Button Button Button Button Button Button Button Button Button Davidson"
I feel like yelling "there's a race on, morons, how about saying something about it?"
anyway, strange grid. very strange indeed. Coulthard and Ralf with very surprising placings. same goes for Fisichella, Kovalainen and Rosberg but for different reasons...

Wurz is to retire at the end of the season. wonder who Williams will sign....definitely not Nakajima...they'd be smart to go for Liuzzi.
