Jerome as expected lost out against the clock - but I am still encouraged by his opening performance in the mountains to raise expectations of a decent GC place.

With 40 K0M points on offer at the finish the stage winner will almost certainly be the new Polka dots wearer. This is a real test for the GC, many expect Hansen to end Ghyselinck's 10 day stint in yellow today.
The desert is a stark contrast to the cobbles in Belgium.
10 riders make the break for the second straight day, they are: Boilly, Delaplace, Gretsch, Fernandez, Kozontchuk, Reus, Mannion, Foder, Domagalski and Wurf.

Like yesterday, Dean sprinted out of the peloton to claim 5 points at an intermediate sprint.
Bluebell Creameries and T-Mobile set the pace on the peloton as they gun down the break. Deignan, despite being second favourite, puts in a suicide attack with 70 KM to go for seemingly nothing put exposure for Semen Indonesia.

Vandborg leads the peloton as the last of the break (Mannion, Fernandez and Gretsch) are caught. Many are wondering how long Ghyselinck and the 'non climbers' can stay in there.
Then the attacks start.... Gutierrez is the first to put in an attack!
Clearly unperturbed by yesterdays fall he puts in a strong attack before Hernandez joins him. They are quickly are caught before attacking again......then.....

Surprisingly that man is HANSEN!
The T-Mobile rider is the first GC man to be dropped with over 3 KM to go, not good news as news of a small attack by van Hecke comes over race radio.
The advantage over a large group is not substantial.....
But it looks like Hernandez and Gutierrez will fight out this one... They look really well matched!

In a really close finish Hernandez takes the stage!
Jesus Hernandez had to wait a few meters, once crossing the line, to celebrate as it was a really really close finish with his countryman. Stage win no.2 for Nokia Ekspla. Pate showed well but his attack was fractionally too late to challenge for the win.
Muravyev, Morkov and Jerome ride out of their skins to stay up in the top 10 overall. Ghyselinck, as expected, lost more time than most GC men, but as Hansen suffered even more he extends his GC lead.
