Great race by Timothy, well done!
Arvid coming in one minute after Zoidl is okay I guess, especially since he is together with Pal. Hopefully they will have both opportunities to shine in the 2 remaining stages too, at least they have set themselves a bit apart in the sprint. Smile

As expected, the weather is still fantastic.

Race report


Once again we have attacks from the start. Some fail, but the one of Ramirez, Hoelgaard, Holmes, Uchima, Parra and Buruczki is succesfull.

Uchima wins the first mountain sprint.

The lead increases over 4 minutes very quickly. This goes on for quite a while. At the intermediate sprint, Uchima once again wins.

The pack now starts increasing the pace. LA-Antarte and Tirol do the most work for their leaders.

The lead keeps on decreasing, but the break is allowed to continue until mountain sprint 2 as well. Ramírez wins the sprint there.

The lead with 20kms to go is 1min13. The break isn't likely to have a chance of making it. This causes some chaos in the break. With 5kms to go, single leader Holmes still has 1min08 lead though.

With 2.5kms to go, Holmes still has a gap. It has decreased a lot thanks to us and Tirol.

With 1km to go Holmes still leads, but Peter is coming extremely close!

Race report


We have some attacks right from the start, but initially a clear break isn't formed yet. We do eventually get a break of 8 riders though, none of them serious contenders.

Afterwards the pace drops. No real battle at sprint 1 occurs. Nothing actually happens at all in the race it seems.

The pack doesn't let the lead grow too big, it never even reaches the 5 minutes. With 100kms to go, the lead is just over 4 minutes. With 2 laps (55kms) to go the lead is 2min20.

This means chaos in the break. With 30kms to go, the first serious attacks start. It almost seems desperate and it doesn't really help. With 20kms to go the lead is just 49s.

Although the race is rated hilly, it shouldn't bring differences for the GC riders here.

Our squad
Peter de Groote will serve as domestique, but will be important in the TTT and hopefully do well in the ITT as well.
Jonas Ek will be a domestique here. Perhaps he will go in a break in one of the stages.
Johnnie Flodder will sprint here. He has a good shot for stage one, but might also do well in the final stage.
Joep Gouda has aimed on the mountain stage here. He should be able to get a decent result there.
Heiko Kalichmann is peaking for this race. He will aim on the hillier stages and hopefully bring a good result there.
Khieu Tet Khamphan might aim on the mountains jersey, but our fear is the field is too strong. He could also serve as domestique.
Peter Pal is feeling very good after his good result in Croatia. Hopefully he can continue in that shape.
Timothy Raue also did very well in Croatia. He will become a domestique here, unless if he goes into a break.

When I saw the route for Coppi a Bartali I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that Fatbardh wasn't racing. Wink

Johnnie isn't happy with all these mountains..

But it will be a nice test to sprint against a former TDF green jersey winner.
