Paris - Nice

The Squad:

N.Bouhanni
S.Chavanel
P.Fédrigo
A.Jeannesson
A.Louveille
Y.Offredo
T.Pinot
J.Roy

Pre-Race:

Marc send a great team for that race, we will be able to target stage win with Nacer and the GC with Thibaut. My job will be to lead out Nacer's sprints, I will be the last guy before him.
I will also have to protect Thibaut in the hilly stages.

Stage 1

The prologue of that Paris - Nice was not taken into account in memories of the victims of an important factory explosion which happened two days before the race.

Stage 2

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0002_zpsb1b22c76.jpg

The race started here, Cavendish (OPQ), Kittel (AGR), Goss (OGE) had the same wants as Nacer : winning the most stages possible. Nacer already won against them in the 3rd stage of the Tour of Oman.

In the final I made my job and Nacer took the victory in that stage made for sprinters. I felt bad for Bryan who raised his arms too soon.

Stage 3

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0003_zps6b29a185.jpg

That was a day for the climbers, the last climb was not design for Puncher like me and I knew it.

Pierrick Fédrigo went in the breakaway as a scout for Thibaut, he also took the mountain points so he'll wear the KoM jersey in the following stages.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0010_zps48c0b8d5.jpg

When we reached the last climb, Arnold started to pace the pack a little harder, the breakaway was over so Pierrick had no chance of making it.

Thibaut was strong and he arrived first at the summit, too bad there was a downhill. The help of Ryder Hesjedal (GRS) was very needed but he did not took a single turn.
Pinot fought hard but he did not better than 3rd, Froome (SKY) win the stage and Hesjedal (GRS) finished 2dn.

Stage 4

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0004_zps791441f8.jpg

Another flat stage designed for Nacer.

The finish was very messy and our Sprint Train did not make it better.

Matt Goss (OGE) was the fastest and Nacer took a pleasant 2nd position. Francisco José Ventoso Alberdi ended 3rd.

Bouhanni with a nice win on stage 2 Smile

And Pinot looking comfortable on the GC Smile

@sutty68: Bouhanni is a good sprinter and that victory was well deserved, as for Thibaut they are still though stages left.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0005_zps3f1cdb7f.jpg

The stage was the only time trial of the race, 16 kilometers is not very long but there was important gaps at the end.

Jérémy did the best time of the team, he ended 26th 1'03 after Bradley Wiggins. My performance was not that great as I ended 84th 1'40 after.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0006_zps0b537c62.jpg

That stage was characterized as a mountain stage, all are efforts were focused on getting Thibaut the further possible.

During the small hills before the last climb, Arnold took the control of the pack, avoiding Favorites to attack and bringing back the escapes.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0016_zpsd4bac105.jpg

During the final climb, many riders tried to attack without many success, Jérémy was leading Thibaut toward the finish but at a constant pace.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0017_zpsbb7984ac.jpg

The only attack that worked was the one of Wout Poels (OPQ), he left with 1500 meters to go but I felt it was a little too early.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0018_zpsf6ce8732.jpg

Under the 1 kilometer banner, three riders were at the front :

- Wout Poels (OPQ)
- Chris Froome (SKY)
- Ryder Hesjedal (GRS)

Thibaut was not far from them and he was getting closer.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0019_zps472136c3.jpg

To conclude the stage, the British Rider Chris Froome (SKY) took the victory, Thibaut had an incredible finish as he ended 2nd in front of Hesjedal, Poels was not far either but he left too early.

Paris - Nice

Stage 7

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0007_zps33a7cccd.jpg

That stage was categorized as flat but I can tell you that this nothing but flat. Anyway, Sprinters made their way toward the finish and as always, I launched Nacer's sprint, he was fast but Matt Goss used his splitstream and he beat him quite easily. To my own surprise, I managesd to get a top 10.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/06%20Paris%20-%20Nice/PCM0020_zps0ce50676.jpg

Stage 8

And finally, the last stage were some changes could have occurred but no, the favorites neutralized the stage and Thibaut, despite his want of doing well, did not managed to get away from the group on the last climb.

He still made the sprint for bonuses and he took the 3rd position of the stage. Daniel Moreno Fernandez (KAT) ended 1st there.
And it's also my second top 10 on that race.

With this race over, I have the feeling that I'm stronger than last year. Being part of the stage victory of Nacer was a great sensation and I was enjoying riding for Thibaut.

Next race is Nokere - Koerse, I won it last year and I'll do it too this year. Then two races of the French Cup and Finally the Cobbled Classics.

@sutty68: Indeed, Pinot had a great week too bad he is not a beast in Time Trial Grin

@welker3257: A stage victory, a top 3 in the GC and many top 10 in stages, yes, I think we can call it a good race Wink

I won it last year, and I came here to win it again. Everything went acording to the plan and when the sprint arrived I made my move, second victory of the season!!!

Second race of the PMU French Cup, I was there to take some points, what I did not expect was that the starting field was not that strong and I was in top shape, after a perfect launching from Anthony Geslin, I raised my arms to the sky, that's another great victory for me.

Again, I was there to take points for the PMU French Cup ranking. Some good sprinters were on the startlist and I was not giving me the chance I had in the Classic Loire Atlantique. When the sprint came, Sébastien Chavanel launched me, José Joaquin Rojas Gil (MOV) who use my slipstream beat me right on the line.

Since 1997 with Frédéric Guesdon in Paris - Roubaix and Laurent Jalabert in Il Lombardia, no French riders had won a monument, this year, French Riders came back to the front scene with the amazing victory of the sprinter Nacer Bouhanni who took it from Fabian Cancellara (RLT) and Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver (KAT).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/08%20Cobbles%20part%201/PCM0001_zpsae8dc1da.jpg

The Squad:

W.Bonnet
D.Boucher
A.Démare
M.Ladagnous
J.Le Bon
A.Louveille
Y.Offredo
D.Rollin

Pre-Race:

The strong men for the team in that race are Matthieu and Yoann, a top 5 is the target but better is always welcome Wink

I will have a free role here but if a leader need help, I will be there for him.

Race Report:

It was a very tough race, positioning is the main element in such a race, you always have to be at the front of the pack at the start of a cobble section.

With 55 kilometers left, with the help of Stijn Devolder ( RLT), Fabian Cancellara ( RLT) escaped from the pack, the chase was led by Tom Boonen ( OPQ).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/08%20Cobbles%20part%201/PCM0002_zps8feb6f8f.jpg

8 kilometers to go and Fabian was still leading. The chasing group composed of Tom Boonen ( OPQ), Lars Boom ( BEL), Thor Hushovd ( BMC), Alessandro Ballan ( BMC), Filippo Pozzato ( LAM) and Matthieu Ladagnous ( FDJ) was 40" behind and the entente was not at its best.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/08%20Cobbles%20part%201/PCM0003_zpsfc0ca603.jpg

Finally Spartacus managed to resist to the group and he took a deserved victory. Tom Boonen ended 2nd and Alessandro Ballan 3rd.

Matthieu took a great 6th position while I ended at the gate of the top 10 taking the 11 position in front of Yoann who ended 12th.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/08%20Cobbles%20part%201/PCM0004_zps46ca4c39.jpg

Gent - Wevelgem

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2013/14%20gent/PCM0001_zps61aed30d.jpg

The Squad:

D.Boucher
A.Démare
M.Ladagnous
J.Le Bon
A.Louveille
Y.Offredo
D.Rollin

Pre-Race:

Same as in the E3, Matthieu and Yoann will be the leaders, in case of a sprint finish, Arnaud will be our guy.

Race Report:

This race went well for the team, it was a disaster for me, I was bad positioned at the entrance of a cobbled section, I ended up in a group of non favorite riders who had already gave up, I never joined the main pack.

At the front, the battle was hard and many riders did suffer of it. One man was stronger than anybody, Spartacus again was above the rest he ended the race first with a lead of 2' on his chasers.

Thor Hushovd ( BMC) took second, Niki Terpstra ( OPQ) ended 3rd and Matthieu Ladagnous ( FDJ) took the 4th position. Yoann Offredo ( FDJ) did well too as he took the 7th position.

I really enjoyed those two races even if it went not as I predicted in Gent - Wevelgem. We always say that "we learn through our mistakes", I think that this one I'll never do it again.
Anyway, next race is the Route Adélie de Vitré and then my first time on the cobbles of the Ronde van Vlaandered.

Anthony got a nice result at E3 Wink

tpinot
@sutty68: I was kind of surprised about that results but I'm likeng this kind of terrain, hilly with cobblestones Grin

Again, Thibaut proved that he is among the best climbers of the peloton, the only problem was the time loses after the team Time Trial.
He still won the Queen Stage with a lead of 35" on his first chasers.

The Squad:

S.Chavanel
M.Delage
P.Fédrigo
A.Geslin
A.Louveille
L.Pichon
J.Roy

Pre-Race:

As I already have a consistent lead in the PMU French Cup, I've decided to work for Nacer here, I'm sure he'll repay me when I'll need him.

Race Report:

The race was not that interesting to follow, even breakaways did not want to fight against the Movistar Armada which came here with guys like Ion Izagirre Insausti ( MOV) or José Joaquin Rojas Gil ( MOV).

This was not the thing that would stop us and Nacer, after winning Milano - Sanremo was really motivated. I launched him and he did not deceived us, this is the second year in a row that he won that race. And me like last year I took the 6th position.

My next race is the Ronde van Vlaanderen, and after my 11th position in the E3, I'm thinking, maybe I'll surprise myself there Grin.

Anthony Louveille.

Another nice sprint from Nacer Smile

tpinot
@sutty68: Nacer is among the strongest sprinters of the pack and a victory in a 1.1 race is good but it's not yet the green jersey of the TdF Grin

D.Boucher
A.Démare
M.Ladagnous
J.Le Bon
A.Louveille
Y.Offredo
D.Rollin

Pre-Race:

After my 11th position in the E3 I Am expecting a great race from me here, my shape is better than in the E3.
Of course I will ride for Matthieu and Yoann but this does not mean I will not ride for myself either.

Race Report:

This was a very active race, with attacks from everywhere at the start. When the breakaway finally got formed, the pack started to control them at an easy pace.

With 100 kilometers to go, Two french riders escaped the pack, Sylvain Chavanel ( IAM) and Lloyd Mondory ( ALM) were off for a long distance.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0001_zps75289544.jpg

5 kilometers, after, Alexander Kristoff ( KAT) felt like he might have miss the good breakaway so went off too.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0002_zpsd028d035.jpg

Then the things went calm for almost 40 kilometers. When we reached the second passage on the Oude Kwaremont, Tom Boonen ( OPQ) accelerated with Fabian Cancellara ( RLT) in his wheel.

Many riders tried to follow them and at the end of the cobble section I was in a group with Sep Vanmarcke ( BEL), Filippo Pozzato ( LAM) and Alessandro Ballan ( BMC).

Matthieu and Yoann were in a group behind me.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0003_zps8340e19c.jpg

18 kilometers to go, Cancellara and Boonen were back with Chavanel and Mondory, it was the last time they rode on the Oude Kwaremont for the day.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0004_zps4f806694.jpg

Concerning me, I was struggling to stay in touch with my group but I failed so I waited after Matthieu and Yoann who had left their Group.
We chased the group in front of us but it was too hard for me to follow my team mates so I let them go.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0005_zps084218b2.jpg

With 5 kilometers Cancellara and Bonnen were alone at the front, no one would catch them, the winner is among them.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0006_zpsa3dccac9.jpg

Boonen beat Fabian in a very disputed sprint, this is the 5th time that Boonen raised his arms in that race.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Anthony/2014/10%20RvV/PCM0007_zpsa47d6e95.jpg

While Matthieu and Yoann were taking the 8th and 9th position (too bad they missed the split, I'm sure they could have done better), I was finishing the race at a very pleasant 10th position, my first participation here and already a top 10 Grin

What a race it was, I was expecting a top 20 for me but never a top 10. Too bad I was too weak to follow the other, I hope one day I'll be on the podium of that wonderful race.
Matthieu and Yoann were glad I helped them in the chase, even if it failed, they offered me the champagne at the end of the race.

Anthony Louveille.
