Jeez, Valverde even finds in this game a way to mess it up.
Great effort by Kangert, a real classy performance by him.

I agree, Movistar messed that up massively. Second time within a month too, since Quintana did the same thing to LLS in Andalucía!
Not that Moreno didn't deserve the win. He dropped Valverde on all of the three final stages, but was unlucky that only one of them ended on a summit. Valverde was really only hanging on to his prologue advantage.
I've been busy in the last couple of days, and will be up till Wednesday, but I'll try to finish Tirreno before then.

Tirreno-Adriatico: Stage 5
March 10th, 2014
Kwiatkowski is halfway to winning the overall after donning the leader's jersey atop Monte Rotondo yesterday. Simply keeping it for more than a single day will be difficult however, since today's stage ends with the steep Pietragrossa ramp into Chieti.
Purito should be the stage favourite, but Nibali and Mollema will also be hard to contain if they have their mind set to attacking.
Hubert Dupont, Gianfranco Zilioli and Tomasz Marczynski break away early. All of them are way down in the overall, so their advantage grows more than big enough for them to fight for the stage win.
Francesco Bongiorno and Matteo Rabottini also attacked, a little later. They never reach the three initial leaders, however.
Back in the main field, we're the only ones making sure that that the escapees wont gain an hour.
At the front, Zilioli launches the first move from the leading group with some 20 km to the finish.
Turns out the other two are done, allowing Zilioli to ride home for a huge win in his first whole season as a professional!
The peloton hits the final wall a few minutes later. First to go is Urán, followed by Scarponi.
Just behind them, Siskevicius is stretching out the field for Kwiatkowski.
The two attackers are pulled back when Kwiatkowski takes over himself a short while later. A counter-attack immediately comes from Purito.
Kwiatkowski pulls this one back too, though.
Still feeling fresh with a kilometer to go, we now realise that we might be able to increase the lead today!
Kwiatek is indeed the strongest today, but can't do better than 5th with the early breakaway and Bongiorno staying clear.
So no bonus seconds, and disturbingly no gaps at all in the peloton.

Unfortunately no time gained, but also no time lost, which is way more important right now I suppose.

Thanks, guys. Trolling Purito on a climb like that is always fun!

Tirreno-Adriatico: Stage 6
March 11th, 2014
Finally a little bit of rest for the GC contenders, giving them a chance to recover as much as possible for the decisive time trial. Can Greipel challenge Kittel for the stage win this time?
Koretzky took part in the early breakaway together with Stijn Devolder, Matteo Tosatto and Patrick Gretsch. They fail to become the race's third successful breakaway however.
Battle of the sprint trains instead, once again with Argos and Lampre competing. Greipel should be disappointed with his team, but does at least find a good spot behind Modolo.
Kwiatkowski meanwhile follows Kittel, with Siskevicius behind him.
Here's the launch from Kittel!
Modolo is blown away immediately; forcing Greipel to go from far behind once again.
Another crushing win for Marcel Kittel!
An understandably annoyed Greipel takes 2nd with ease. But look at who topples Felline for 3rd! Hello, Mr. Kwiatkowski!
That's 8 seconds extra advantage for tomorrow.

Kwiatkowski showing that he is a versatile weapon. He's really a fun rider, because he can really nearly do everything, even challenge Kittel & Greipel in a sprint. This 8 seconds can mean a lot in the end.

He's definitely versatile, but stage 6's result was mostly thanks to lucky positioning and (+5) for daily form!

Tirreno-Adriatico: Stage 7
March 12th, 2014
For the 4th consecutive year, Tirreno closes down with a short time trial. This one is more challenging than those in the past however, due to the 2.7 km climb with an 8% average gradient in the first half of the route.
Kwiatkowski, Mollema or Nibali - who wins the overall?
The trio would not only come out on top of the overall, but also occupy the first three places on this final stage.
Nibali was the first of them to finish, having started out third from the end. He was clocked in at 19'58, which knocked previous leader Zdenek Stybar down by 11 seconds.
Then there's Mollema. He had 4 seconds advantage on Nibali ahead of the stage, but failed to find his opening stage legs and lost 10 seconds to the Italian. No overall title for Belkin, but still an excellent race from Mollema.
Finally, the moment of truth. Nibali or Kwiatkowski?
No question. 19'49 for Kwiatek, who leaves the race not only with a trident, but also with the stage win he closely missed on several occasions earlier!

Congratz. Much deserved win for Kwiatkowski.

Thanks a lot for all the comments!
The Tour will be fun for sure. I reckon a top 5 is the realistic goal, but I'll do everything I can to get him on the podium!

GP Nobili Rubinetterie, Coppa Citta di Stresa: Preview
March 14th, 2014
As final preparation for a certain coastal classic in Italy, we'll swirl around the roads west of Lago Maggiore, just south of the Alps.
On an otherwise very easy parcours, the double climb of Massino Visconti is the only thing that might prevent a sprinter's finish. It's only 3.3 km long, but could in fact do some good damage with an average gradient of 7.4%.
None of the absolute top sprinters have shown up, but there are plenty of those from the second and third tiers.
We're fielding a very strong squad, with three potential winners: Siskevicius, Martinez and Kwiatkowski. We haven't worked out our exact tactics yet, but we'll probably try to shatter the field on the climbs.
Biggest opponent could be Mattia Gavazzi - one of the most victorious riders this season with a tally of 4 so far.
