Hopefully the game doesn't push De las Campos in team-mate position again. |

Hey boss,
Seems like the Basque series are quite a success. I was wondering, since I'm a rider in the team, if I would be allowed to start in one of the upcoming hilly ones? I could be team Flandria or something.

Hi Rudy.
I guess you and other like you might appreciate the announcement we will make after the Alpe d'Huez stage...
Also I personally think it's wise of young Gorka to go solo as the helpers have had a tendency to ignore the order for them to ignore their fighter hearts thus putting ther designated captains in a bad situation tactically making the "lone riders" almost invisible throughout the series with not even a single breakaway between them...

Two great Basque wins in Alpe d’Huez is celebrated by climbing the legendary mountain twice in one day.
These are the favourites to be the next Basque on top:
A bunch of the lesser known riders in the peloton decide that they need to get away early to make themselves noticed today.
Things are kept very much under control by the Euskaltels while more well-known names such as Irizar, Erviti and Fernández try to get away.
Jorge Azanza put in a massive pull from the start for Euskaltel-Navarre eliminating all attacks.
Zugasti is first over Col de Manse, but the gap is still only around one minute.
Several riders including cobbles-winner Delage are very active after Col de Manse, but Azanza continues to keep things in an iron grip. His teammates have started helping out as well though.
Finally a break establishes largely thanks to some relentless attacking by especially Irizar. The four others are Sanz, Larralde, Zugasti and Bizkarra.
As the climb up Col d’Ornon slowly begins the front quintet has around five minutes to the peloton, where Sicard envigorated by his NC win makes an attack followed by Durán.
The Duo joins the break 2 km from the summit.
Apparently that is not Movistar’s plan so they start working with Euskaltel-Navarre.
As the break begins the first time up Alpe d’Huez the gap is down to 3’43 and they can see the peloton closing in further down the mountain.
It looks like the many early attacks from Irizar is taking it’s toll as the new kids squeeze up the pace with 4 km left to climb. Sanz and Larralde are first to crack though, but soon after Sicard and Durán slip away from the rest as well.
Durán is first over the summit, though it’s not really contested.
In the peloton it’s clear to see who rides WT and who doesn’t…
18-year old Gorka Nieve does well to sit in the middle of the pack at this point after 17 riders have fallen off the back and many more are struggling. He even holds on when the peloton cracks again leaving 27 (incl. some of the former breakers) in the main group.
Sicard leaves the front duo over Col de Sarenne with the peloton 3’26’’ further back.
When the break starts its final time up the mountain they have 3’38 to the peloton, who have now been regrouped counting 48 riders. That gap could quickly disappear when the big guns start shooting.
De las Campos is waiting for no one today and attacks when the climb has barely begun.
Intxausti and López closes him down but Nieve counters leaving Intxausti the only one capable of following the two Navarrans.
The situation with 10 km to the top:
With 6 km to go Sicard can feel the breath of the chasers in his neck and decides to take things into his own legs.
1 km later he has 35 seconds to Durán, who has just been caught by De las Campos, Nieve and Intxausti.
Haimar Zubeldia decides that it’s time to spark things up in the main favourites chasing group and is followed by Ion Izagirre, Antón and López.
The RadioShack rider seems to be close to the strength of his best days and manages to go solo.
4 km to the top and anything can still happen!
The groups gets smaller for each passing km.
Nothing much happens to the front trio and its Intxausti who blasts into the final km in front.
Perhaps he should have waited as he seems to burn out before the line leaving it open for De las Campos and Nieve.
A magnificent 1-2 from Euskaltel-Navarre, while the remaining riders are all to tired to sprint for secondary places.
Nevertheless Gorka Nieve should treasure the memory of him leading Gorka Izagirre and Castroviejo to the top of Alpe d’Huez!
The Sagasti award goes to Markel Irizar for his relentless insisting on establishing the break. No one attacked anywhere near the number of times the RadioShack rider did.

Intxausti does well again. Great to see him on top of the ranking !
One question: Was there no "most aggressive rider" this time or did I just not spotted it?

Ollfardh: I think you can spot him through one of the tme difference screenshots as well
knockout: Guess who's on top of Euskaltel's wishlist at the moment
Well spotted. I had made the decision, but had forgotten to add it to the report. Irizar took ot for a very active early part of the race. Without his effort I doubt the early break would ever have been established...

Nice read as always. Especially fun when you are a neutral spectator
On the other hand I desperately miss to rage or celebrate about something lately.

Hello everyone,
What a race. This is a dream come true, even though it is not an official race. Winning on the Alpe d'Huez is always something special, especially with the history that the Basque riders have here.
I also want to thank the boss for always having faith in me, even after I rode a bad Giro d'Italia.
Special thanks to Mikel Nieve, who rode exceptionally well. He's not only a great team-mate, but an awesome friend as well.

Gora Gorka!! Great report by you, and a nice 15th place by him. Surely his best result so far, and the first 6 points in the ranking for the future basque superstar.
Has he raced with the recent update already or old stats?

Silvio: Happy that even managers with no riders taking part enjoy it!
Shonak: He just needed a proper mountain
The race was the last with part 2 stats, so things could turn even better for him in the furture...

Another great instalment of the Basque mini series Atlantius.
Great to see multiple riders battle out the final, in contrast to many of the EPIC mountains finishes.
RadioShack are really pleased to have Markel Irizar pick up the Sagasti reward, Zubeladia showed well, looking to impress Euskaltel - Euskadi's transfer people! |

AN EUSKADI FOR EVERYONE!
As was already seen early this season when we sacked Serebryakov for his Imperialistic sympathies and signed Verboven as a sign that we support the Flemish claim for independence we have started focusing on the battle for independence and self-governance in a broader spectre than our own.
We have already on one occasion had “guest riders” from other places after they performed well in Basque races. With the overall success of the race series in mind we are happy to announce that more riders will be allowed to race in the series from now on.
Specifically we will open a spot for three national teams from regions battling for independence. National teams since the core is still the Basque riders and Basque country, though teammates of Basque riders will be allowed to ride with their Basque comrades instead of on the national team.
The new regions/teams are:
Scotland, Catalunya and Flanders
Sadly that also means that we have to cut a few other teams to limit the number of team cars.
Orbea and Euskadi Talents will merge as a team reserved for the youngest riders from Euskadi not selected for any other team, which means that riders like Zugasti and Aitor Galdos won’t get to continue racing. We will also take a closer look at the Aquitaine riders taking part with the aim of bringing them together on one regional team, where vicinity to French Basque country weighs more in the selection than previously.
Also Arkaitz Durán could very well end up changing his Efapel-Glassdrive for the Orbea jersey to make even more room.
Catalunya and Flanders haven’t got enough riders to pose any problem but to ease the selection process we have to put some restrictions on the Flanders team:
1. Riders have to be born after 1st of January 1984
2. Riders have to be signed for a team
3. Riders have to be nominated by a team manager
The new riders eligible for racing are thus:
Catalunya Spoiler Name | Team | Born | Avg | J.A.Flecha | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | 17-09-1977 | 77 | D.Lozano | Team Novo Nordisk | 21-12-1988 | 64 | D.De la Cruz | Team NetApp - Endura | 06-05-1989 | 71 | E.Prades | OFM - Quinta da Lixa | 09-08-1987 | 67 | A.Losada | Katusha Team | 28-02-1982 | 73 | J.Rodríguez | Katusha Team | 12-05-1979 | 81 | X.Florencio | Katusha Team | 26-12-1979 | 73 | E.Gonzalo | - | 25-08-1983 | 67 | E.Pedrosa | - | 10-03-1990 | 65 | J.Rovira | - | 03-11-1979 | 70 | J.Simón | - | 06-09-1990 | 66 |

That means that NetApp – Endura, Belkin, Cofidis, Orica – GreenEdge, RadioShack, Garmin - Sharp and Argos – Shimano will have to decide whether to include more riders on their “real” team or to nominate their rider for the relevant National team.
Nominations are prefered via PM.
Euskaltel – Euskadi nominates Rudy Verboven for the Flemish team.

First a bit regarding the transformations of the Basque Country Championship Series:
There is still plenty of room on the new national teams and it would be great of RadioShack, Garmin, Argos and Cofidis will give some thought on whethre or not they want to expand their Basque team with the newly eligible riders from their teams.
