Vervaeke is easily exceeding my expectations for him. I wonder if he could start to outdo Wellens as the next big Belgian climber.

Wellens was never a climber though. Micheal Matthews got 8th place at Avenir in the year that Quintana won
He's definitely more of a puncheur and will develop that way. Next year could be his break through year hopefully.
Vervaeke however is a climber. How he will do in future? Who knows. It's promising though. Although I have most faith in Benoot to make it to the top out of all these riders.

Any idea what's going on with Latour? Was expecting him to be up there after his showings last season but he's down in 19th overall. |

No idea, out of form I guess.
Ronde de l'Isard (2.2U)
Stage 3b (TTT)
Anyway, it wasn't ITT, but a TTT. Quite weird, considering the first two stages were MTF's. This meant one team started this TTT with 3 riders and still managed to beat few teams
No big surprises. Queen stage to finish the race with 3 cols.

Ronde de l'Isard (2.2U)
Stage 4
Very tough stage to control ( Lotto was down to 5 riders ), but they did in great fashion. Has to be said thanks to Benoot and Latour who did amazing amount of work to catch him, and funnily enough these two were also by far the quickest.
Ronde de l'Isard (2.2U)
GC
Well, Verveake wins very easily, but Benoot stole the show for me, he finished Top 10 in all stages and 3rd in GC while domestiquing for him
( and with Lotto having only 5 riders in the race - it was a massive job ).
Kudos. What a rider he is going to be. Right now he is Valverde of U23, great climbing, even better puncheur and very good sprint.
Bit disappointing by the Colombians, not a good show considering the 2 MTF's in first two stages. Lavandier showing good potential too.

Great result for Maxime Le Lavandier. I've been following he and his brother for a couple of years now (thanks to the MG ) and this is huge for his chances of a future career.

First stage of this u23 race is a 1-2 by Jo Piels. Looks like Reinders broke away with his teammate Hoekstra.

Thanks for your reports Alak, they are always enjoyable to read and it's great to see what's the up- and coming talent of thefuture. That Benoot sure sounds like someone to keep an eye out. I take it you're already a bit of a fan of him?

With so many races going on, it's pretty obvious that the field this year is not so strong (Stölting and LKT Brandenburg sent their strongest squads to the Bayern-Rundfahrt). Domination by Jo Piels in this morning's TT. Hoekstra was impressive though, with almost 50 km/h average. He was already pretty good in the Carpathia Couriers Tour, where he won a stage in a stronger field.

Not very smart to have those two races at the same time. Too easy for Jo Piels

It seems a bit odd that they would schedule the Tour de Berlin at the same time as Bayern Rundfahrt. There isn't exactly a huge amount of German stage races around these days.

Comparing both races, the Bayern Rundfahrt is a race that is hard for U23 teams I would say.
The Tour of Berlin.. Well when you look around whats in Brandenburg, something you won't see are mountains or hard hills unless you ride to Sachsen.
And TV wise nothing is on TV not even the Bayern Rundfahrt.

Cheers. I am indeed, probably because he has great English so I communicate through him on twitter.
He really is at U23 what Valverde is in the pros. He's a level headed guy, studies Economics at Uni so preety smart too, I believe he has a big future and could be one of bigger stars of cycling.
About Tour of Berlin. The field is poor not only due to Bayern going on, but also to Fleche de Sud.
Best thing about this, both Tour de Berlin and Tour de Berlin end on the 1st of June. Any guesses what race is on 1st of June?
Paris - Roubaix U23's Talk of great calendar management.

Oh, and then there's another u23 race taking place at this moment. Kasperkiewicz is another name that popped up at the Carpathia Couriers Tour already. Luka Pibernik who joins Lampre next year finished 4th.
Course de la Paix U23, Stage 1: Jesenik - Rymarov (122 km) (2.2U)
No 3 in a row for Jo Piels in Berlin.
Tour de Berlin, Stage 3: Rund um Baruth (111 km) (2.2U)

Edit: Wrong thread though Cort it U23
Spoiler 7th win of the year for Cort, who also takes the GC lead. Guess he'll have some pretty decent offers for next year...

I haven't visited the Other Races thread for that same reason, I keep getting spoiled (Eurosport airs the highlights every night)

Spokes wins the 2nd stage, which was a mountain stage.
