Stage 4

Profile

Even if there is a cat 2 climb on the route the last 30 kms are on flat and there should be no problem to have Cavendish to fight for the stage win . It's our first day in the Blue Jersey so we need to do most of the work in the peloton .

The race

A 5-man break-away was formed by : Michael Mørkøv, Fabio Taborre, Romain Feillu, Tarik Chaoufi and Sébastien Rosseler . We did not let them have a bigger lead that 5 minutes and thanks to Lotto , Orica and Cannondale we had to problem to catch them .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0055_zps08146340.jpg

With 30 kilometers to go Greipel fall in the peloton . The speed was already very high and even if all of his team-mates waited for him he did not manage to get back in the peloton .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0054_zps522c99fb.jpg

With 10 kms we were in control , actually Mark was the only sprinter with a "train", the rest of the favourites decided to get his wheel . We had Terpstra - Vandewalle- Steegmans - Boonen .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0056_zpsde32e207.jpg

Again our guys did an mazing job , especially Boonen , who seems to be a great lead-out for Cav . We can win again !

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0057_zpsbfd4b4eb.jpg

Sagan and Degenkolb started their sprints before Cav , but it was Boasson Hagen who was the fastest . He cam from behind all of us and took the win! Mark missed a podium place , finishing 4th .

Stage 5

Profile

Today there is the first hilly stage of the tour . It will be very tough for our riders beause we don't have any good climbers , but we hope that Mark or Boonen can hang on . The last climb is a cat 2 climb with 40 kms from the finish line , after that there will be a long downhill . With 3 kilometers from the finish there will be again a small hill , but very short .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0019_zps4dcef257.jpg

The race

As we had no big chances to fight for the stage win we decided to send a man in the break and we succeeded : Vandewalle was in the BOTD , together with Bellemakers , Taborre , Pozzato , Vicioso ( Green Jersey) ,R.Van Rensburg and Kump . Vandewalle managed to cross the line first at the top of the climbs and he was now fighting for the KOM Jersey .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0001_zps0e031d6e.jpg

Here we are on the last climb of the day . The break-away had 2 minutes ahead of the peloton led by Cannondale with 40 kilometers to go . Vandewalle managed to outpsrint Pozzato and Vicioso and his mission was accomplished .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0002_zps384558a5.jpg

Meanwhile in the pack the things were not going so good . Only Terpstra remained to prtect Mark and he was exhausted. That's why we had a call to make and we decided for Vandewalle to wait for the pack and remain there to help Mark .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0003_zpsaa68460f.jpg

Pozzato attacked on the long downhill and it seemed to be the strongest from the break . Still the peloton was coming fast , he had only a 1' gap ,

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0004_zps04a1ef63.jpg

Thankfully Mark recovered a little on the downhill . Pozzato was caught with 5 kms to go and on the final uphill portion Kessiakoff attacked . He immediately created a small gap .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0005_zps808358df.jpg

As soon as the hill ended and we were back on flat Vandewalle accelerated with his last resources of energy , trying to ctach Kessiakoff . Mark was there , but nobody seemed to be strong enough to follow us .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0006_zps464146c9.jpg

Kessiakoff proved to be too strong and took the win , but Mark was just amazing ! He came 2nd , ahead of Sagan , in a very difficult stgae for a pure sprinter !

I would just ask the same Shock
Or he has a brilliant form, or it's just PCM. I hope the first one Wink

Nice to see Mark winning the battle with Sagan

If you position yourself at the front at the start of the climb, allows you to drop back slowly. Also, going to the front and pulling hard on the flat to catch a breakway means that the peleton wont work as hard on the ascent, because they dont want to catch the break to early.

Cav looking brilliant for Milan-San Remo and Gent Wevelegem, if he decides to race there...

I doubt it's PCM because all my other riders were dropped , even if they have better HIL stat than Mark . I guess he is just in great shape .

it doesn't happen very often to beat Sagan in races with profiles like this one .

Indeed , he was well positioned at the start of the climb . His daily form was normal , +1 , but I guess it's his fitness ( 97) that helps him . Things are defnitely looking good before MSR , as for Gent Wevelegem it's not decided if he will go there or not . Smile

Stage 6

Profile

Only 2 stages to go and Mark had the Leader's Jersey on his shoulders . The last stage will be 100% flat , so today there will be the final challenge . It is a hilly stage , with the last 3kms on a small uphill portion of 4% .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0020_zpsfcd30e88.jpg

The race

Vandewalle sprinted at the top of the first climb and took the points . A few other riders followed him and a break-away was now created .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0008_zps3676e6bc.jpg

So 6 men are joining Vandewalle : Bellemakers , Gesink , Bakelants , Oss , Paolini and Failli . The best placed rider in the GC was Bakelants , only 26" behind Mark .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0009_zpsdefd88fb.jpg

At the top of the other climbs again Vandewalle won the uphill sprints and he was now the leader in the KOM Standings . We had a pretty big gap : 7' with 50 kms to go .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0010_zpsb0feebdf.jpg

With 20 kilometers to go Gesink attacked . Meanwhile , nobody wanted to chase so the break-away had a 9-minute gap . It was clear that both the stage winner and the GC will be decided in the break .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0011_zpsd2ccc2c4.jpg

Failli and Bakelants did almost all the work to catch Gesink . Then Vandewalle surprised all of them and attacked at the 10-km mark .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0012_zps35ac4f87.jpg

5-kms to go and he still had that small lead. From now on the road will start to uprise . Can he hang on ?

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0013_zps3f034ecf.jpg

He manages to mentain his lead and took the stage win ! Smile
Meanwhile Gesnik was dropped .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0014_zps4d2d6996.jpg

3-kms to go in the pack . Terpstra wants to bring the Blue Jersey to the front . Mark needs this points from the sprint to keep his Points Jersey .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0015_zps00ea5863.jpg

He won the sprint in the peloton for the 8th place .
