Greg Henderson (LTB) wins, with Rowe 12th and Hammarling 100th
Comment (not Karl or Mikel)
Getting there in terms of fitness, but without Matty the chances of a win soon have taken a big hit. Can't use Scotty as a lead-out at this stage of the season, he is too busy prepping for cobbled races, leaving Luke basically solo.
Comment (Not Karl or Mikel)
Start with good news, Michal is now the 6th best TT'er in the world, and 5th best PLG. Also the form is starting to build so an outside result at the VDK is possible, if unlikely. Should be exactly where i want form for Maldon Dengie as well
Comment (Not Karl or Mikel)
VDK didn't go as well as hoped. Just not enough form, but we are now at a point where we can challenge in the UK. Vitre did not go as well as hoped either, but again we got form for the UK.
Also Cronshaw is back much earlier than predicted, and will be popping up at the Tour Doon Hame.
Coming up: Maldon Dengie Tour
Life in PCT may not be going well but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
And for god sake Lavery get them legs moving!
Allez Allez Aleez!!!
Lavery finished 2nd in both 2012 and 2013 for Node4. He enters this race as outright favorite to win. He is the best cobbler and has the best team. Could it be third time lucky?
Lots of plot lines to this race. Lavery hunting the win, Node4 chasing any good result and the early return of Cronshaw. The weather is terrible again, wet, windy and cold. It took a long time for a break to form but eventually a move went away.
Farnham(HSD), Othman(CSS), Aleman(JSH), Downing(MGT), Dzhus(ISD) and Lovelock-Fay(CWO) made the move. We pick up with 50km to go.
50km to go - The break holds 3'10, with MTN and Node4 making the chase. Cronshaw abandons unseen by the cameras.
39km - On the penultimate cobbled section the break holds 2'45 as Node4 up the pace of the chase
25km - The gap has plummeted down to 1'28
19km - On the final cobbled section the break was caught, but Downing attacked. Konovlovas (MTN) set off in chase.
E1 Downing - 10" - E2 Konovlovas - 6" - Peloton
15km - Bialoblocki pulls the head of the race together. There are about 25 riders in this lead group
12km - And Lavery attacks!
5km - Lavery holds a slim 21" advantage. The group behind is shredding as various riders chase him down.
3km - Lavery still holds 20" but the riders are kicking behind. There are only 11 riders left in this lead group, including Thwaites and Hammarling
1500m - Not again! Lavery is caught by the chasers!
1000m - But Hammarling pulls Thwaites clear of the group!
600m - Thwaites comes around...
FINISH - Scott Thwaites wins!!! Hammarling takes second. And Lavery somehow holds onto 3rd place as well!

Comment
Yes!! Oh god yes! yes yes yesyesyesyes YES!!!
You have no idea how much we needed that as a team. We need good results in the UK and this is a perfect start. James and Matt did great work selecting the break early on. James and Thomas did great work in chasing the break. Marcin pulled it all back together late on. And Scotty just polished it all off. Only downside is that Phil couldn't get the win. 3 years, 3 podiums, 0 wins. What does he have to do!
The other bad news is that Matty fell and has now broken his arm. No idea yet when he'll be back, but we hope its by the start of the Tour Series.
Anyway, off to party!
Stage 1
Alexander Serebryakov (EUS) wins, with Rowe 19th. English was in the break
Stage 2
Steven Tronnet (BIG) wins from a break, with Rowe 12th
Stage 3
Michal Kwiatkowski wins the Time Trial
Stage 4
Alexander Kolobnev (SOJ) wins, with Kwiatkowski 28th
Comment
Michal delivered the win we wanted so thats good. Rowe... confusing. He has the speed, i guess he is just lacking that bit of winning form and confidence. Overall an average race.
Andre Greipel (LTB) wins, with Thwaites 49th and Hammarling 106th
Comment
Holy crap this race was tough! The quality is soooo much higher than i am used to. Just can't compete with these big guns yet. But i am feeling good about the upcoming Tour Doon Hame
A whole load of early attacks kept firing today. MTN pulled them all back, trying to pick out the break they wanted. Eventually a group of 4 were allowed away. Koretzky(BSE), Wilson(TJM), Kovalev(RVL) and Godrie(RB3) were the move. We pick up with 41km to go, over the top of Tairlaw Summit. It is pretty much downhill all the way from here.
41km to go - Over the top of climb the break holds 3'10, with Node4 making the chase
25km - MTN have taken over and the gap is down to 1'30
20km - BIG push the pace and the gap is 1'00
10km - Node4 reel in the break, and take charge of the lead-out
3km - Hammarling leads the line with Node4 in full control
1000m - There are a couple of early jumpers on the right, but Rowe is winding it up now...
FINISH - But Andriato wins for UKY!!! Rowe is second and Abakoumov 3rd

Stage 2: Moffat - Annan
Stage 2, you all know whats coming...
Lots of early action, which resulted in Hammarling attacking to win the early IS. As the race left the opening circuit the break went away. Stuyven(BLS), Berthou(TIK), Kaupas(CCD), Rossetto(BIG), Van der Velde(JBC), Driscoll(JSH) and Wielinga(RB3) made the 7 man escape. UKY were really out to defend Andriato setting a high pace all day, never letting the break get more than 2'00. We pick up with 30km to go
30km to go - UKY still leading, and the gap is only 40"
20km - Finally someone comes to the aid of UKY, and its Node4 and MTN. The gap is still 40"
10km - Barely 10" separate the chase from the break. Node4 are taking no prisoners today, and the race is tearing behind them
8km - And there is the catch!
3km - Hammarling punches the front, leaving many other teams scrambling for position!
1000m - Thwaites releases Rowe who has clear road ahead
FINISH - Easy as you like for Luke Rowe! Comfortable win ahead of Milne and Thwaites

5th, 5th, 6th. I like this race. We have a tactic, it works. And Luke is looking like his 2013 self again, absolutely blowing the field away on Stage 2. I just wish we could be that bit more competitive on the continent, but it's coming now. Onwards towards Rutland, another race i love.
Jimmy Engoulvent (SOJ) wins in a break, with Rowe 10th
Comment (Not Karl or Mikel)
Finally starting to look alright on the continent. As a result i will start to play more of them. Will be a Karl Blog coming soon as well.

@sutty
we needed it. Raleigh are ahead of us in the rankings!
@Ian
he's on contract through 2015 so Node4 have got him for a while yet.
But Lavery, Cronshaw and Hammarling all run out of contract this season, and they can all move up a level
Been a while since i last blogged. But in fairness, apart from racing its been really quiet. We had one hell of a night out after the Maldon Dengie Tour. We all went out in London, and got absolutely pissed. With hindsight, not the best idea with racing only a few days later, but hell we deserved it. Finally, as well, people are starting to know who we are! Its such an odd feeling having random people come up and tell you about, well, you.
Racing in the UK and racing on the Continent are two totally separate beasts. In the UK we have been considered outright favorites and have been the strongest riders. On the Continent we have been place fillers and also-rans. That is tough. Knowing you have to ride the same race, but have no hope of a result... Its hard, really really hard. But we'll keep working and it will get easier, i know it will.
My current contract runs out at the end of the season. The team want me to renew again for another couple of seasons, but i don't think it's the right choice. I know i am good enough to move on upwards. I know that there will be some interest in me. Probably Sky would like me, and I've heard rumors that OPQ and IAM are interested in me.
Also Matts and Phils contracts run out this season. If i could i want to go somewhere with Phil. Over the last few seasons he's become my best friend, and i would love to continue to race with him. I'll keep you updated on things as the season progresses.
I believe that covers everything for now. As always i will answer questions etc... Yeah you should know the deal by now, i've been doing this long enough. Up next is the Rutland-Melton Classic followed by the Tour of the Reservoir. So i'll write again before Germany, if i can
Todays 206km cobbled classic began in the sun, but the weather rapidly worsened to what you'd expect from the UK. The break did not take too long to form, occurring after the second round of attacks.
Vasyliv(LKT), House(RCS), Amado(BOA), Hunt(UKY), Czajkowski(BGZ) and Romero(JSH) broke away to spend the day being hunted. We will join in the racing with 45km to go, and only 3 cobbled sections to run.
45km to go - The break holds a lead of 3'00. Node4 lead the chase, with some help from IGS
35km - The break are giving it a go today, still holding 2'40
25km - But the final cobbles puts that idea out the way. They hold 4" over Pieters(JVC) who is bridging across, and he has 47" over the chasing peloton
20km - Hunt and Czajkowski have gone clear, and hold 28" over the now much smaller peloton
18km - Barker puts in the effort to pull the head of the race together. With no cobbles left, this is looking like a bunch sprint
14km - Rowe crashes out of the lead group!!! 4 riders have gone down in total, but this changes the whole outlook for Node4
5km - Node4 lead the charge, but are down to three riders. The lead group is constantly shedding more and more riders under the pressure
3km - A couple of riders go early, trying to put Node4 under pressure
1000m - But under the Kite Lavery has pulled Thwaites to the front and they lead the way
500m - Out of the final turn Thwaites unleashes his kick and pulls away
FINISH - Scott Thwaites wins! Offredo is second, and Del Nero third

Great race! Phil and Scott finished it off perfectly, after a great team effort to get us into the position to win. If i'm honest i don't like this third man position. Good news is that Luke only has some cuts and bruises, so will be fine to get back racing.
