Finally a good race to test Diego's skills.... I guess its hard for a british team to have a south american rider as a leader... in the history of colombians, they always work for others, let's hope Diego shows his strenght for the benefit of the team and himself... I think him and the italian guy can make a good key to the victory... they both have hot blood and like the same enviroment...

Istrian Spring Trophy Stage 1

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0001-75_zps1aa99db7.jpg

A very short prologue to get the legs moving. It's difficult to see anyone losing more than twenty seconds here, even the worst time triallist. The aim of the day for us will be damage limitation as we have no prologue specialists in good shape. Johansson and Kim will aim for a top twenty but for Fischer and Bracco, the goal will be to not finish last!

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0006-70_zps546bb363.jpg
Very early on, Vorobyev of Itera-Katusha set off. Despite being only an average TT'er, the Russian went comfortably quickest at this point. For Sky, Zabala struggled but Van Niekerk was quicker and remained in the top ten for quite a while. Other good early times were set by Young, Sutterlin and Schmalz.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0007-65_zps4332ed7c.jpg
The favourite for today's stage was Ben Jacques-Maynes and the Bissell rider lived up to his billing, setting the same time as Vorobyev. Incredibly, Vorobyev was given the win by a couple of thousandths of a second to take the leader's jersey. Oget set an average time whilst both Johansson and Jaquin were underwhelming. One positive for Sky though was Kim, who went just seven seconds slower than the winner, but missed out on the top twenty by fractions of a second.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0009-48_zps443bc781.jpg
The final riders to set off for Sky were Bracco and Fischer. Both of them hate TTs, so the aim was to not finish last, which they did. Just. Both set the same time, one second quicker than last placed Carlsen. Not a great start for the team but no worse than we were expecting. Good late times were set by Kozubek, Andersen, Antogna and Mas.

Istrian Spring Trophy Stage 2

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0002-65_zps6b33f42c.jpg

The first road stage contains four categorised climb before a tough final slog up an 18% ramp in the final kilometre. Keeping fresh over the whole duration of the stage will be key to getting up the final climb as quickly as possible.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0001-75_zpsdffefc15.jpg
As the stage started it was Oget (who else) who went on the attack. He won the first mountain sprint but had to wait for others to help, which just allowed the peloton to catch them all and that was that for Oget, who decided to save it for another day.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0002-65_zps0fdef87f.jpg
In the end, it was a group of five that escaped down the road. The strongest rider was Tvetcov of Exergy but none of them were good enough climbers to be a threat at the end and they soon built up an advantage of over six minutes. Sweeting of Kenda clinched enough points over the stage to wear the climbers' jersey tomorrow.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0003-60_zpsb9b59965.jpg
As the final climb loomed, it was Whirlpool and Glud & Marstrand that were bringing back the break. Itera - Katusha weren't interested in doing any work today, despite the fact that they were in the race lead. They knew that Vorobyev just isn't a good enough climber to bother defending the jersey for. Fischer had poor legs today so it would be Kim, Zabala and Bracco leading the charge on the final climb.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0004-67_zps6001282d.jpg
As soon as the climb begun, Kim started his diesel engine up and rode away from everybody. That was the only way that he could challenge on a climb like this due to his lack of acceleration. It also allowed the other Sky youngsters to sit at the front of the peloton and respond to any attacks. Eventually, it was Hanson, Romero and Dombrowski who kicked out of the peloton with Zabala and Bracco able to follow. However, only Dombrowski got away and set off after Kim.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0005-63_zpsbe66ac19.jpg
But the American couldn't catch Kim and the Sky Development Squad picked up their first ever victory. What a superb ride by the Korean born climber. Both he and Dombrowski gained 26 seconds on the peloton, with Romero leading the main group home. Both Zabala and Bracco finished in the top ten with all of our other riders in the top 35. Kim Yoo Suk, take a bow!

Great riding from Kim, giving Sky Dev. their first ever win Grin Slightly disappointing riding from Fischer on his terrain. At least not last of the team anymore Pfft

Fischer just didn't have the legs today I'm afraid but there's always tomorrow! Smile And I hate to have to tell you that Fischer is still last of the team (well, joint last) Wink

There it is. Our first win! Nice job Kim! Banana
Hope Kim can keep his jersey..
The opposition wasn't that strong, but still, beating guys like Dombrowski is great Wink
