I'd just like to say that yes England were crap, but that defence has only played 1 match togethor, Carson made his competitive debut and played as though Croatia were paying his wages
Campbell is shit now, he is too old. Lescott is ok but he hasn't had any experience with any other of the back 5. Wayne Bridge is quite possibly the worst left-back i have ever seen, i have no idea why cole didn't start
Richards did ok but not his usual level of performance.
McLaren deserved the sack for that game alone. Taking SWP off??? why
I'm glad he's gone now. Mourinho, Shearer, Capello, and Redknapp are in the running now, all have said they want the job except Shearer who is in the running so people think we may actually get an English manager. If we appoint Shearer as manager i will change my nationality to Peruvian
and just a not, the penalty was a penalty, it is against the laws of the game to pull somone's shirt in the box, and the Croat player pulled Defoe's shirt, if Defoe had pulled his shirt then a free-kick would've been given to them, so it has to be the same the other way round
and i don't understand why everyone is so against England. I personally want the best teams in Europe to be involved, and this year there are a couple of teams that are missing, not just England. You may say they are over-rated but that's not a reason. We played with 4 key players missing last night and i'm not making excuses because things happen in football. But even with those vital players missing, we managed to only lose 3-2.
and we may be over-rated but we are better than some teams that qualified

mourinho has stated fifteen million times in the past three years that after Chelsea, he'll either go to Germany or Italy to manage a club. he's been saying that lately as well. doesn't seem to make a difference with the english press

I hear you guys played pretty well against Brazil
seriously, Scolari would jump at the chance, and he will most likely be your manager. and I want that too, as it'll mean he is out of here, and Ricardo will never be called up again.
the shit Scolari pulls all the time, no one else would be allowed to without a revolution taking over the country.

only if it impedes the player from playing the ball. if that were a penalty, you'd have a penalty from every single corner kick.

you've obviously never had english fans trash your home city after losing a game, then claiming that all brits are the pinnacle of sportsmanship, as I've had a handful of times...
nothing against england. just against the fans that do that every single time. english fans, not scottish. we've had Hearts, Rangers and Celtic fans here several times and they were great every time

Yeah, England didn't do too good in the last international competition they took part in. I mean they didn't reach a finale game for ages (World Cup 1966 ?).
I guess the richess of the Premier League is partly faultly there. Recruiting that many foreign players makes less room for your home players in the top teams. Add to that that English players hardly ever go playing in other major foreign leagues and that's it. Your pool of potential top players runs short quite fast, and you get the results England has been getting for a while. |

I think the number of foreign players in England is good. It means we don't have to watch the same rubbish from yesterday week in, week out

I think that's all true, but I'd like to remember what Man Utd's own head of youth development René Meulensteen (who is always dead on and very bright about everything) said about the topic a few months ago.
he said that the problem with english youth is that the english game is so much about pace and power that the regime that young players follow is very much an athletic one, without much emphasys on technical and tactical skills. so the basics that they should learn at a young age, they don't, while the physical aspects can be improved at any time (except speed which can't be changed much). therefore, the player's technique and sense for the game is left to the natural tone. and really, if you're left with your natural talent without working on it, you're quite screwed.

Russia, Romania, Poland
football is just so infuriating when key players get injured, i mean we were missing Rooney, Owen, Ferdinand, and Terry
Terry is one of the best central defenders in the world and if he doesn't play then England don't win
obviously that's no excuse because people get injured in football, it just seems that England get a lot more injuries than other countries. Mainly because our football is more physical.
@your comment on penalties at corners; well then the penalties should be given, then there would be no pulling of people's shirts
i too don't think Mourinho will come, but everyone else does. I would really like Redknapp, but i think he is a world-class club manager with his signings, and at international level you cannot sign players so his positives might be made a bit redundant. So i'll settle for Capello
and personally i love English fans and i have been to lots of football matches where there has been no trouble at all. Even in local derbies. So you must just have had a couple of bad experiences, because i have been loads and not experienced any trouble.
The passion shown is incredible, maybe by what you're saying they change when supporting their team abroad. But quite a few team's fans do. The Italian's are always brawling, I have witnessed a few brawls in Spain. And there will be some that go unreported.

A bit of shirt pulling is fine - I prefer a more rough game, where divers like Ronaldo get hit - hard, and just ignored when they do about 25 rolls.
England have nobody to blame but themselves - the best team won, and we got exactly what we deserved

I prefer the more aggressive game also, but then the referees penalise us for playing too roughly
Things that are perfectly acceptable in the Premiership, we get booked for doing in international games because the foreign player's/referees (+Joe Cole) are puffs and start diving
and yes the best team won, which is annoying

exactly my thoughts, word by word. however, not as rough as, for instance, the england u-21 team this tuesday. at half time I commented (and it's quite true) that they not once went for the ball. always the legs. and that just won't do. rough yes, hurting people, no.

Russia finished ahead of you.
Romania are at this point one of the best teams in europe the way they're playing. I'm very thankful they can't fall into Portugal's group. when you have a player of Dica's quality on the bench, that says a lot about the quality of the team.
Poland at this point are a better team than England. they don't have better players, but they're definitely a more dangerous team. more dangerous than ourselves quite possibly.
Addy291 wrote:

I've been of that opinion for quite some time.

Mourinho himself says he won't come, so that's the end of it really
yeah, I guess everyone would "settle" for Capello

over here, the english have caused trouble every SINGLE time. both club games and Euro2004 included.
only Lazio fans have been worse

something to be proud of, eh?
here's a few interesting facts.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the player with the most shots on-target and with the most off-target.
he was the second most fouled player (as in, him being knocked down). number one? some random guy from San Marino named "Andy"
David Healy beat Dagenham Dave's long standing record for most goals in a qualifying phase with 13.

Healy was on great form throughout the qualifiers, it just about sums up how bad their defence is, for them not to have gotten through

At the world cup we had fans from loads of countries in Stuttgart - the only ones to go around rampaging in cafés and throwing chairs through the streets were the english
About the Greeks; they aren't that bad at the moment, Rehhagel is again doing a good job with them and they have definitely deserved to qualify. The only team that doesn't deserve to be there is Austria

Have you seen Poland play? They were very good, much more convincing than England at any rate. And they didn't have the easiest group either with Portugal, Finland, Belgium and Serbia.... more difficult then England, so BS
Romania was crap, Holland should've beaten them easily two times. I think Romania will suck at the EC too. But still, convince me England is better, even Israel scored as many points... :?
And Russia, well, so/so |
