Nice TT win for wouters, a bit disappointed result for Roelandts

Jesleyh: Yeah, never expected such a weak field in the International Cycling Week. But that's only good for Willy
PCM rulezz: I agree, but it's not like he didn't try. Once he had missed the split, he chased the group at intensity 85-90, he just didn't get any closer because Cancellara was making the pace. Let's hope he does better at the Ronde.
sutty68: Thanks Glad to see you still have time for other stories now that you've started your own |

sutty68: Well, I never suspected otherwise
cunego59: De Ronde may be raced tomorrow, wouldn't want to keep you waiting too long! Thanks.
Dienblad: Thanks! Hopefully the first of many!
Thanks for the support, especially after the story's been away for a little while. Sometimes it just takes some time to regain full motivation (and: "it takes time to find time". Isn't that nicely said? Should be printed on toilet paper or something)
De Ronde maybe coming up tomorrow, if I get all my work done on time (have complete confidence in that)! |

Hi everyone!
De Ronde is coming up pretty soon, so I took a plane home to support Stijn. I'll round up some more training sessions here before returning to Italy next week, right after Roubaix. Stijn will stay in Belgium for a little while longer to be with his family.
Since my first professional victory, I've enjoyed some recognition from the other guys here in the team. The paper also issued a small article about my victory, here it is:
Willy Wouters gives Lotto Belisol a victory on Italian Roads
Willy Wouters, neopro at Belgian team Lotto Belisol, has won the final stage in the Italian International Cycling Week, a ten kilometer time trial. For Wouters it was his first professional victory.
It may not be a major race, or a time trial, but I'm damn proud of it. My family threw a surprise party when I arrived home from Italy. I had a good time. No alcohol, though, got to keep my nose clean if I want keep it up.
De Ronde coming up tomorrow, let's hope the best for Stijn! |

De Ronde Van Vlaanderen :: Dry, Dirty Roads and One Hell of A Swiss
Well, this is it. My biggest dream lays here, in the heart of Flanders. De Ronde is probably the most beautiful race in the world, no offense.
If you're looking for cobbles, this is the place to be. Three times the Oude Kwaremont, seems unreal. The first time I'll be riding it is the first time it's a new profile, so everyone has a slight disadvantage today, which may play in my advantage! Because of my consistent riding, I've been given a chance today. I wouldn't have to work for Roelandts unless he'd have nobody else (left). Sounds great to me!
The weather was dry, I didn't really like that. I'm all about the mud, wet roads, rain pouring from the skies, wind blowing riders to the other side of the road, not being able to see two meters before your eyes.. But I'll take it any way it comes.
Despite the dry weather conditions, disaster is never far away. The pace was held high constantly and it took its toll. Tiredness caused lack of concentration and the first rider to hit the asphalt was Clarke.
I believe in miracles. But today my faith got a big dent, as I got left behind by a strong leading group, including a recovered Boonen and a strong looking Cancellara.
I still had them in my sights kilometers later, but I didn't get closer. It was really frustrating, nothing I could do...
Finally a group picked me up. I decided to hang on and recover a bit for the finale.
Meanwhile, Roelandts was being left behind as well. His first year as a leader isn't going too well, unfortunately...
Vansummeren, Boasson Hagen and myself were able to breakaway from the chasing group and we picked up Roelandts. My free role vanished and I was put to work. Boasson Hagen was absolutely great and helped me relay.
Boonen must still feel a bit weak, because he was unable to ride a strong finish like you'd expect from the world's greatest Classic Rider ever known. Cancellara outsprints him and wins his second Ronde Van Vlaanderen!
Roelandts felt pretty good and told me he didn't need me to lead him out. So I could sprint for myself. Since Roelandts and Vansummeren hadn't been relaying, it was obvious me and Boasson Hagen would be sprinting for the final two places.
I beat him with less than in inch! It was only after the official results came through we knew the correct order. This gives me a 15th place, which is absolutely great!

I'm real happy with this result. My first Ronde and finishing 15th is beyond imagination. Though Roelandts is doing worse. He's not been himself since the race, I hope he'll recover from it for Paris - Roubaix. He's a strong rider, but he just needs to believe in himself a bit more.
Until next week, for Roubaix. Thanks a lot for being here!

That's a great result for a neo-pro! Congratulations
A shame that Roelandts didn't do well. Maybe he got more luck in Roubaix...
The results of Boom & Terpstra make me a bit worried though

Not bad, maybe Stijn can lead the team in P-R instead of Roelandts

Jesleyh: Thanks a lot! Roubaix should be more to his liking... Yeah, I'm sure they'll hit back in Roubaix, too! Watch out for them
sutty68: I agree, thanks. I think I chose the right stats for this story. They're good, but still need to improve a whole lot
PCM rulezz: Well, it would be a risk to let a neopro lead P-R!
dienblad: Thanks! |

Hey there,
Another small update, right now it's the 7th of April. Tomorrow is Paris - Roubaix, but I'll let Stijn tell you all about that.
Another important thing, the Tour of the Basque Country has been raced and it was an excellent time to see how everyone's form was, looking forward to the Ardennes Classics. I must say Lotto did great, and Jelle Vanendert specifically. Here's the result.
General Classification
1 | Andy Schleck | Radioshack Nissan Trek | 20h10'37 | | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez | Katusha Team | + 54 | | 3 | Jelle Vanendert | Lotto Belisol | + 2'16 | IanButler | 4 | Thomas De Gendt | Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team | + 3'05 | | 5 | Alejandro Valverde | Movistar Team | + 3'50 | | 6 | Ivan Basso | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 4'03 | | 7 | Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | + 4'51 | | 8 | Rui Costa | Movistar Team | + 5'10 | | 9 | Peter Velits | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | + 5'21 | | 10 | Cameron Meyer | Orica-GreenEDGE | + 6'54 | |
Hi!
Exciting days here in France, as I left Belgium the day after the Ronde. No time to relax now. I've done a little one-on-one with Lars Bak on the last 150km of Paris - Roubaix. I outsprinted him in the Velodrome, all in all it was a great day. Tomorrow it's for real. I was really counting on a free role, considering my results lately. I know it's very unusual to request that as a neopro, but I've learned long ago that you can't go through life without taking chances. I'm a bit disappointed as they told me they want the entire team supporting Roelandts. Now, I don't have a big problem with that, he's a great guy and a great rider, but purely personal it's a bit disappointing, hope that's understandable!
Big news for tomorrow: Flecha is out. I failed to mention it before, but he's had a bad fall on training, so that's one competitor less. Let's hope Roelandts can turn his season around in Roubaix, a race which suits the both of us a bit better, considering it's much flatter and longer. And I, myself, hope for dreadful conditions. Weather forecast: Clouded, Chances of Rain: 65%. Let's hope for the best! |
