Forever Agostinho - the return of a national Hero

Prueba Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika

Continuing his preparation for the Vuelta, Agostinho was chosen again as the team leader on this Spanish classic. A lot of climbs, but the end seems to be fitted to a sprint. Movistar will have to work hard to get rid of the pure sprinters and try to launch the portuguese fury.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Prueba%20Villafranca-Ordiziako%20Klasika/profile26_zpscc716791.jpg

With 12km to go and after a hard work from the team, Agostinho attacks on the top of the last climb. His name is written on the floor!

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Prueba%20Villafranca-Ordiziako%20Klasika/agostinhoattacks_zpsac2a523e.jpg

And Agostinho gets his first professional win! What an attack, he won by more than 4 minutes! He celebrates effusively!

Stage 2 Vuelta a Burgos

Stage 4 Vuelta a Burgos

The end is a bit inclined but the stage 4 of Vuelta a Burgos is quite flat. Maybe the fast men have something to say today.

With Agostinho shielding Cobo he hold on quite well, and almost got the race lead. Ben Hermans did great taking both stage and race lead. Moreno was the only that try to discuss the victory and he managed 5th place. Quintana finally shows some form to tomorrow's big day.

Stage 5 Vuelta a Burgos

And the decisive day is here. The profile is finally according to what we might see on Vuelta a España, and there's a 20 second bonus to the winner.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Burgos/Profile27_zpsc8488317.jpg

With 31km to go the break has 4 minutes on the peloton lead by BMC. Movistar is joining them now. Yellow jersey is there too.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Burgos/31km_zpsc428e94e.jpg

15km to go. Movistars pace has made the difference to the break reduce to 1'30. Only 51 men left on the peloton.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Burgos/15km1_zpsa5be9f75.jpg

After a great work by Lopez, Quintana and Moreno, Agostinho is taking Cobo away to the finishing line.

The opposition wasn't great, but Movistar is showing that has something to say on this year's Vuelta. Agostinho seems to be a raising star!

Great work for Cobo and awesome to see Cobo reward him with a win!

After a participation unnoticed on the Eneco Tour (won by Chavanel), Movistar team is now disputing Clásica de San Sebástian.

Clásica de San Sebastián

Without Valverde or Costa, the team's main riders should be Cobo and Kiryienka. The rest of the line up includes Joaquim Agostinho and the guys that are preparing to Vuelta: Quintana, Moreno, Lopez, Gutierrez and Ventoso.

The are a lot of specialists that can win this one: Gilbert, Rodriguez, Samuel Sanchez, LL Sanchez, Nibali, Gerrans, Albasini, Iglyinski, Gasparotto, Nocentini, Vanendert or even the returned Alberto Contador!

The race profile:

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Clasica%20de%20San%20Sebastian/Profile28_zps24475f16.jpg

With 150km the peloton is compact. Movistar has tried with Agostinho first and Quintana later to put someone on the breaks, but the peloton is not letting anyone go.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Clasica%20de%20San%20Sebastian/150km_zps5ad0d849.jpg

With 76km to go Agostinho try again to break. He has the company of 2 Caja Rural men, Piedra and Marcos García. They have about 1'30 on the peloton.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Clasica%20de%20San%20Sebastian/76km_zps9e88c233.jpg

And Quintana joins Agostinho and Piedra. García have attacked again, and gained a considerable distance to the other escapees. 65km to go.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Clasica%20de%20San%20Sebastian/65km1_zps6b7fecf9.jpg

With 25km to go and all the escapees caught, the favorites try to attack. First Nibali, then Rodriguez.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Clasica%20de%20San%20Sebastian/25km3_zps5d72f255.jpg

With 8.5km to go Chavanel has an interesting advantage.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Clasica%20de%20San%20Sebastian/85km1_zps2dc0016c.jpg

And Ventoso gets the win! Amazing how Movistar chased Chavanel and Gilbert and then set the things to the team sprinter who was the fastest among the 17 riders who hold on to the group!

The team objective of a Top 3 is at reach although with Contador, Rodríguez and Sanchéz won't be easy. Rojas will have a harder task if we consider the presence of the 3 best sprinters of the world at the moment.

Agostinho will have to concentrate on bringing Cobo ahead like he did in Burgos. Maybe he can fight for the youth jersey.

Stage 1 Vuelta a España

The first stage is a team time trial who can set the first differences.

And in fact, it was a great day to Movistar, where only Radioshack was better and Cobo got time to his 3 main rivals.

Stage 2 Vuelta a España

Today we have the first round to the sprinters. Radioshack has the red shirt on Wagner's body, and will try to defend it. The opportunists will also try their chance on a break.

And Rojas wins the stage! Cavendish and Greipel just weren't there. Goss tried but failed. It was another great team work by Movistar, as the stage was harder than most people could expect.

Vattenfall Cyclassics

Movistar decided to take to the German sprinters classic, Francisco Ventoso who recently won Clasica de San Sebastian. He's in a good shape, let's see what he can do. With a big number of sprinters on the Vuelta, his main rivals should be: Kittel, Bozic, Turgot, Farrar, Eisel, Ciolek, Pettachi, Demaré and Hushovd. Even guys like Cancellara, Flecha or Burghart can be dangerous on this kind of races.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vattenfall%20Cyclassics/profile30_zps8f804111.jpg

As the peloton approaches the 2nd passage through the hill Wasenberg the four men break has about 3 minutes on the peloton.
Spoiler
There's no fence, and those cows have their way free to the road lol

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vattenfall%20Cyclassics/50km2_zpsa50688a6.jpg

And the 3rd passage on the Wasenberg has made a cut on the peloton, leaving Farrar, Impey, Bozic and Bouhanni behind. On the front Hushovd and Klier have attacked!

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vattenfall%20Cyclassics/pelotonsplit_zps181b7f44.jpg

And Kittel is also being left behind. What a pace at the front!

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vattenfall%20Cyclassics/kittelbehind_zpsace8148b.jpg

With 2.7km to go Stannard tries to attack, Movistar has its train well placed, but here are sprinters that could get back to the main group with Bozic, Eisel, Hushovd and Kruopis among them.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vattenfall%20Cyclassics/27km_zps898d5802.jpg

And Ventoso is the best on the final sprint! Millar and Cancellara where the ones that could jeopardize his win, but couldn't do it.

Nice San Sébastian. And a great start in the Vuelta. Hope Agostinho can do his job well there, and maybe he can get rewarded with the young jersey or maybe even a stage win Wink

Stage 3 Vuelta a España

At the third day comes the first serious test to GC contenders. So it is Movistar mission to protect and assure that Cobo has a good day.

After 3 third category climbs the peloton will face the climb to Alto de Arrate, a first category mountain, with the finishing line just 1km after it.

Stage 4 Vuelta a España

For today's stage, the main favorites are the same then yesterday...the overall guys. With steady climbs this short stage (155km) shouldn't create much differences and should be won buy a fast climber.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Espana/Stage%204/profile32_zpsf0ebaf9c.jpg

With 70km to go Agostinho is showing his white jersey on the television. Movistar is controlling things up to protect their red jersey and their leader as well. Break has 2'24.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Espana/Stage%204/70km_zps7fb0d1be.jpg

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Espana/Stage%204/12km_zps71fbfa3a.jpg

Rodriguez attacks with 9.6km to go. Some riders try to follow, but only Antón can go with him. Movistar tries to keep the pace high.

i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/kimiopn/Vuelta%20a%20Espana/Stage%204/5km1_zpsbb53f729.jpg
