Vuelta a Espana - Stage 2

The final test, the Vuelta a Espana.
Many are predicting this could be Sagan's toughest test of all.
With 25 points awarded at every finish, it is going to allow the climbers as well as the sprinters to challenge Peter all the way to Madrid.



And unlike the Tour, the Vuelta sprint points only give out points to the first three riders through (3,2, or 1 points)



And it's Gianni Meersman that wins both sprint points to tally up 6 points.



With 20kms to the breakaway is starting to think they could steal the win today, as the peloton is disorganized.



Eventually Ivan Basso has to come to the front
to chase as nobody else wants to.



And it wasn't enough, Meersman wins the sprint to the finish as well.



The sprinters mix into the breakaway at the line.
Sagan takes 6th here on the first flat stage.
The fast man on two wheels is still recovering from his rough Tour de France, Cavendish 56th.



However that wasn't the biggest news of the day.
The sprint was so fast it split the peloton into two.
114 riders are caught out losing over 3 minutes.
Gesink, Scarponi, and Contador were in that group!

Vuelta a Espana - Stage 3

After an average start yesterday,
Sagan will look to hang on during the final climb to steal some points.



It takes a while but a 5 man breakaway eventually forms.



The majority of the day is spent in the rain and fog.
Luckily everyone gets through today without problems.



The breakaway is kept at 5 minutes even though the conditions are horrible.



The rain does clear up with 25kms to go.
Which at that point Wout Poels goes on the move,
Scarponi, Thomas Rohregger, and Voeckler all follow.



But Saxo Bank, Sky, and Garmin work together to bring them back,
along with the morning breakaway.
Wait a second, not everybody was in that group...



Thomas Voeckler had attacked away and is up the road going solo.



Voeckler takes to final climb first,
a minute later the peloton is lead onto the climb by an
attacking Nieve, Basso, and Simon Spilak.



Voeckler some how holds his lead at the top!
Behind it's attack after attack,
but nobody is powerful enough to pull away.



After the short downhill to the finish Voeckler can raise his arms above his head. His efforts not only get him the stage win but the KoM jersey as well.



Then it's a group of 9 that come in with same time
(42 seconds behind Voeckler)
lead by Maxim Iglinskiy and Alejandro Valverde.



52 seconds later Sagan leads the next group home for 11th,
Basso is in this group as well. Every competition takes a shaking today,

After all the hype and anticipation the first mountain stage provide
that there is one clear cut favourite as he just
tore up the mountain side and left his chasers in the dust.
He attacked first and was never seen again ...
