Im sorry but I cant believe that a 'sick' rider can get 3rd in the final Vuelta time trial and get 3rd at the worlds. Read the Bouygues site. He had problems with his stomach. He couldn't eat well.
I would, but I dont understand any French.

probably injury.
he must've dropped a needle on his foot by accident

Not an injury. He has acknowledged that there's currently an investigation going on concerning him, and he has therefore decided to withdraw. |

how magnanimous. is it me or did the UCI do nothing to try and stop him participating?

yeah, but the fact that UCI did, once again shows double standards on their part.

well Di Luca has gone up in my estimations slightly, not many riders would pull out of thw World Championships, which they had a chance of winning, because they were under investigation
in fact he's the only one

is it me or does the fact he's under investigation completely kill any good feelings toward him?

Well, CONI recommended a 6 month ban a few days ago, so he would have been banned anyway. |

well obviously the fact that he's under investigation puts a downer on everything, but the fact that he has actually noticed that riding and maybe winning would be bad for the sport and so he has withdrawn, i think that is still a nice thing to do

Apparently the Z Man's Aero Bars were too long for the UCI. Were does the UCI think up these stupid ass rules?

To add a little somethin' to this debate, here are the bookie favourites for the WC:
Oscar Freire Gomez / 4.25
Paolo Bettini / 4.50
Alejandro Valverde / 8.00
Stefan Schumacher / 9.00
Samuel Sanchez / 9.00
Filippo Pozzato / 12.00
Davide Rebellin / 18.00
Alessandro Ballan / 30.00
Michael Boogerd / 30.00
Kim Kirchen / 30.00
Phillipe Gilbert / 30.00
Damiano Cunego / 30.00
Erik Zabel / 30.00
Fränck Schleck / 30.00
Jens Voigt / 40.00
Gerald Ciolek / 40.00
Wvladimir Gusev / 50.00
Fabian Wegmann / 50.00
Seems like we are the only ones to believe that the finish is too steep for Oscar. He has proved us insane on other occasions... But Bettini is at the there-abouts as well, if Oscar can't do it.
Give-aways in my oppinion:
Samuel Sanchez:
My main favourite for the WC, brilliant for the route and in terrific shape. I'll throw a LOT of money after him, I think...
Michael Boogerd:
His nickname is there for a reason, still it's his last season and he'll do everythin'... Odds 30! That's insane...
Damiano Cunego:
I wouldn't bet on other Italians than Bettini. But odds 30 for the Prince on that kind of finish? Maybe Paolo won't even ride... So...

I think Sanchez is going to win it as the course suits him plus he is in great form, but don't overlook Valverde. He is going to be motivated to win the race, if for no other reason to stick it to the organizers. You could make the arguement that he won't win it because he might have been distracted with the recent events. So it all remains to be seen. I would say that i think he will be in with a chance though. And obviously Freire as well.

i wouldnt overlook Wegmann, hes the type of rider that just suffers and suffers and finds a way to make the winning move, and will be super motivated
