What happened to Chavanel anyway ? He seemed very fine until 15 km to go, riding at the front, then he disappeared.
Was he simply dropped, or did he get a mechanical, a puncture or something ?
Cunego or Nordhaug could have won this. Perfect positions both. Look very closely at Astana rider ( Iglinskiy ) too beside Cuengo, there's seems to be cotnact between him and Cuengo.
Well, according to cyclingnews, the race was a "stunning" "thriller"
It seems like indeed it was the Astana rider causing the crash. A real shame that crash happened since it created a clear split with Gilbert-Vanendert-Sagan-Gasparotto. Considering that Voeckler was very impressive and would have stood a very good chance of winning.
watch the astana rider next to cunego... makes a clear swerve across the road at him for no reason i think...
Astana taking out the competition for Gasparotto, THE CHEATS!
I didn't realise it was iglinsky... thought it might have been one of the ex lampre guys... gavazzi maybe... which would have made sense... no love lost between Cunego and his ex team mates...
Freire shows that he is still the old Freire, Gasparotto taking advantage of cheating by his team-mate, Sagan got no energy, Sagan was the strongest of the 1st group and he faided. What would Vanendert do last year if he didn't work for Gilbert? Cunego could have done great, if he didn't fall. Valverde, Gerrans, Rodriguez and Chavanel completely fail today. Gilbert showed that he isn't in a great form, still he is in enough form to deliver perfect leadout's to team-mates(this case to other teams)
After some more examination of the finale, I've noticed an interesting thing.
Sanchez, Rodriguez, Valverde, Gerrans and Schleck all began the Cauberg in a really bad position. They all sat more or less at the back end of the group when Gilbert pounced. Therefore Sanchez impressed me to finish Top 10 in the end. He must've been one of the fastest on the climb.
No wonder the result turned out this surprising when the favourites didn't pay attention enough to keep position at the bottom of Cauberg.
Also, Rodriguez had to more or less stop completely behind the Cunego / Nordhaug crash. I think that having to build up speed again after that burned him completely with lactic acid. Still, he disappointed big time.

You probably mean Peter Velits who won in Oman, but he was not in the race, only his brother Martin was racing, still got decent 85th place for him Edited by Avin Wargunnson on 15-04-2012 18:09

He also says that he will most likely miss F-W.
Fuck that ; /
That could've been interesting, had he attacked then Gilbert wouldn't have to do all the hard work. Maybe he'd have a better shot at the win then. I'm curious now, but I guess we will never now.

Wait, ah, alright, the fantasy game on the velogames site said he was racing, but obviously not.
