Omega Pharma Quickstep Squad
Tom Boonen
Sylvain Chavanel
Gert Steegmans
Niki Terpstra
Stijn Vandenbergh
Nikolas Maes
Bert Grabsch
The team is the same as at the Omloop and we hope for 2nd victory here. Today's we will see how much we bonded over the winter trying to create a good train to put Tom into perfect spot to win the race
Even though this is classfied cobbled classic, it's more favourable to sprinters than the cobbled specialists rather. That's because of the small amount of pavé, and mainly the long, uncobbled flat run-in towards the finish. Few may attack at the closing stages of the race, but it will be up to the lead out trains from sprinter teams to catch them.
As in any race there are breaks and this race is no different. From the start there are many to attack, one that caught our eyes is the young rider from GreenEdge Daniel Teklehaymanot, very promising rider.
Halfway the stage the break holds 3'02" advantage over the peleton, which isn't likely to be enough to succeed today for the break,
On the last cobbled section it's Sky, Radioshack - Trek and Omega Pharma Quickstep doing all the work at the front of the peleton.
With 10km to go the peleton has the break in sight. It's over for them today.
8km to go and two trains are established. One for Cancellara and one for Boonen. Omega's train looks like this :
Vandenbergh --> Terpstra --> Grabsch --> Chavanel --> Boonen
Boom attacked out of the pack, but it's Steegmans accelerating now and catching the attackers. Veelers is on Boonen's wheel, if he can manage to hold Boonen's wheel he ha decent chance to win today.
Tom Veelers wins ! At 1.6km Bonnen launched his sprint followed by Veelers on his wheel he over took him in the last 200 metres.

Team’s Reaction
Today was another great day for us. The team did amazing job for Tomeke and put him in perfect spot, but Veelers stayed on Boonen's wheel for the last 10km and didn't loose it once and out jumped him at the end. Nothing we could do about, but with victory in Omloop and 2nd in KBK we got very good results.
Tom Boonen is officially back from his problems in past to dominate cobbled classics later in the season !
P.S. Indeed, Thanks Schleck96

Good to see Danny in a break, but better to see Tomeke sprinting well. Shame he couldn't win, but I'm a fan of Veelers so no problem for me. Let's just hope Tom does just as well come De Ronde and the Roubaix.

Nice weekend for the team, It's a pitty that steegmans does not have high hardriding stats, he was the missing lead-out man in you train today, however second is also a great result!!

Well, 2nd is still a very nice result. To keep track of our little challenge, i got these races with reversed results. 2nd in Omloop and 1st in KBK.

Teddy The Creator - Indeed, the big man showed himself well. Thanks, indeed the thing now is to keep Boonen safe and keep that form and peak it at right time.
Avin Wargunnson - Yea, nothing we could have really done differently. Thanks, the train looked good today, it only lacked the 'accelerating' lead out engine as jona pointed out.
sutty68 - He's the man in the form, well said
valverde321 - Thanks, well we may not on fire as such with not greatest time in Mallorca, but we did well so far
jona777 - Absolutely right, the thing we missed was the acceleration at the end to get Boonen away from rivals giving him that edge to win. We hope Ciolek is going to fill that role at Tour, he's great acceleration will definitely help. Thanks
PCM rulezz - Thanks, videos should be interesting indeed, setting everything up now and let's see how it works out soon
purepasd - Heh, that's can't be a coincidence Nice result from you, keep it up
Tomorrow's the time for monthly review and an interesting race in Murcia which Tony Martin will use as last preparation for Paris - Nice.

its great to enjoy those classics you rode with Tomeke, yet i really did belive for two wins there. but still these two are far from importance of RvV and PR, which i have real fate end up with Tomeke winning. with his form and your tactics will be epic
btw when setting up a train if you have one more rider on your team, for whom you have no use in train, lock this rider behind your sprinter as soon as possible, that way you could unlock this rider from Boonen when e.g. 2 km left and that would also unlock and rapidly slowed down Veelers and other sprinters locked on Tom. hope this would be somehow useful for you.

Omega Pharma QuickStep Squad
Sylvain comes here to prepare for Tirreno, later in the month and he'll lead the team with Levi who makes his first big appearance on our team. We'll target a podium with either riders. Ciolek is here to prepare better for Tirreno so we don't expect anything from the first sprint stage.

GC Favourites
*** Sanchez
** Wiggins, Chavanel
* Sabido, Blanco, Rogers
Sanchez comes here as a big favourite, with Wiggins closely behind him. Sanchez will have to win some seconds on second stage to keep that lead over the TT. Chavanel isn't usually favourite in stage races but due to not the bets line up here he stands a chance of finishing on podium.
Team Objective
The plan is to to simply finish on podium. Stage 2 is the decisive stage and we'll go all for it there. We'll try to create splits and loose Sanchez or Wiggins, but it will definitely be hard. We'll see how it goes.
