Tour de France 11: Stage 5: Carhaix > Cap Fréhel 164.5 km

Rojas was cutting in on Boonan, which caused him to cut off a few guys. Wasn't too bad, but it was borderline and this stuff is causing arguments at every sprint. I don't blame them for being harsh on it.

(all from memory, haven't checked the official reasons)

They set a precedent with Cav/Thor and now theyve got to follow it - and luckily they have, Rojas moved over to the left, forcing Boonen to the edge of the road, and completely blocking Cavendish who had been about to launch to the left of Boonen. Cav is still stupid for sitting up, but the stage win and this decison certainly makes up for it

Yeah, whats bad is that Boonen also lost points. I guess they wanted him to slam on his brakes or keep riding straight so that Rojas would run into the side of him. I dont really see what Boonen could have done differently. (And I'm a Rojas fan btw)

So looking at the stage tomorrow, could it be a battle between Gilbert, Rojas, Hushovd, Thomas and Evans?

I think Hagen recovred fully now from the ilness he got. Unlucky for him today as he had faulty map, and if Thomas and Hagen work together, they will be threat.

Tomorrow should be all sprinters. The last kilometre is only rising by 1.4%, not enough for Gilbert, Thomas and Evans. Hushovd will probably do the lead-out for Farrar tomorrow.

But the two kilometres before the last kilometres has an average of 4,4%. That will probably sort out a couple of the sprinters, making it a battle between strong sprinters and "hilly riders."

And the last ~60 kilometres of the stage is pretty hilly too.

I'm sorry, I was looking at the map for today by a mistake.

I still don't see Evans and Thomas being there in the sprint. Atleast not winning. Top 20 is possible if they are well positioned. Gilbert is an option, but it all comes down to how fast they ride up the last hill. No doubt that Garmin and HTC will want to catch the break before the hill and go up at a steadier pace to allow Farrar and Cavendish to survive the hill.

Thomas came fifth today, so on a harder stage he should be expecting even better....

The last kilometre today was harder than tomorrow. He doesn't have the topspeed to beat the sprinters on a flat finish.

The final kilometre is easier tomorrow, but what comes before it may be harder. Im hoping Sky manage to pull off a Thomas/Hagen/Swift combination tomorrow though, so dont expect Thomas to be right up there individually.
