Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
roturn
Actually I was quite impressed that I had already 14 victories Wink But his happens to me in almost every career, many stage wins in the first 3 and the last 2 months.
In between quite less actually, hope I will win something in April-August this year, too and not just 2-3 stages.

All our cobble riders are participating. Especially Vansummeren wants a good result after his win in Gent-Wevelgem. But also Maaskant shows with his 2nd last year that he can playa good role here.
The route in 2011 is much harder than last years version, so we might see what we can reach.

Favourites:

***** Cancellara
**** Boonen, Pozzato
*** Hoste, Vansummeren, Gilbert
** Nuyens, Maaskant, Flecha, Devolder
* Haussler, Breschel, Ballan, Chainel, Eisel

Of course Cancellara is the favourite although his result in Gent wasn`t that great. Boonen and Pozzato might be the best sprinters we can expect in front. Hoste and Vansummeren showed a great performance in Gent, Gilbert is a little bit a surprise. He didn`t participate there an so we don`t know about his fitness.

img249.imageshack.us/img249/2045/profilewc.jpg
Brugge - Ninove. More than 18km of cobbles and ~1800 meters of heights during the whole 254kms.
Especially the second half is incredible hard to ride.
At least it`s dry today.

img841.imageshack.us/img841/6563/pcm0002.jpg
After 45km some riders jumped out of the pack. Caruso (Katusha), Mancuso (ISD), Mestre (Cervelo), Plaza (Caisse), Sivtsov (HTC), Bichot (Bbox), Fofonov (Astana), Didier (Saxobank), Noval (Euskaltel), Capecchi (Lampre) and Rast (RadioShack), who is the only real dangerous rider (75) in this group. But he won`t be that dangerous after a 200km break probably.

img696.imageshack.us/img696/89/pcm0003.jpg
The group reaches the first cobbles near Waregem. They are gust 3'30 ahead of the peloton and their advantage is already melting.

img44.imageshack.us/img44/9540/pcm0004jf.jpg
Quickstep, Liquigas and Rabobank are leading the big group over the Knokteberg. 1100m with an average of 8% and a maximum of 13%.

img835.imageshack.us/img835/4673/pcm0005h.jpg
A big split of the peloton after this hill. Just 61 riders are in front. Still 6 riders of Garmin and all favourites there.

img263.imageshack.us/img263/3032/pcm0006.jpg
The favourite group reaches Brakel. All attackers are catched now. Just 43 riders in front. Vansummeren, Maaskant, Boom and Farrar are still in there.

img835.imageshack.us/img835/273/pcm0007.jpg
Geraardsbergen - Kapelmuur. 475m full cobbled climb with average of 9.3" and a maximum of 19.8%.
The winner of 2008 and 2009, Devolder uses it for an attack. Gilbert, Cancellara, Hoste, Maaskant and Vansummeren follow.

img192.imageshack.us/img192/522/pcm0008.jpg
On the last cobbled section, the Bosberg, these 6 riders are leading the race. Boonen is just behind them and will probably join soon. Then a bigger group around Pozzato and Haussler follows.

img181.imageshack.us/img181/7236/pcm0009.jpg
Cervelo and Katusha closes the gap and so there are 25 riders in front again.

img831.imageshack.us/img831/7971/pcm0010y.jpg
Devolder opens the sprint for Tom Boonen. Cancellara, Hoste and Maaskant are directly behind them. Should be a perfect position for Boonen now.

img801.imageshack.us/img801/8236/pcm0011.jpg
But it is Cancellara again. Like last year he takes the first 2 monuments.
Hoste with another great result and still in front of Devolder, who is 3rd.
Tom Boonen was out of power and couldn`t overtake them.
Maaskant on 7 and Vansummeren on 11 did also quite well.

Good report, but a boring Ronde, and a bit unrealistic that the two best sprinters finished last in the front group...

Good luck for Roubaix, but it will be hard to do something about the Swiss freak Smile

roturn
Last year I had the problem in PR that all my bottle guys didn`t made it back to the leaders although I sent Fischer, Farrar etc. who were quite good in cobbles.
Then they favourites attacked when Vansummeren was behind.

This year Farrar increased and Boom will help. Better chances for Maaskant, who jumped from 78 (2010) on 80 now. If his fitness is ~ 90 then, I will fight for a podium hopefully.

Congrats to the 7th at de Ronde it seems that Cancellara is unbeatable. Good luck in the Hell of North.

The Tour of the Basque Country is an annual cycling stage race held in the Basque Country, Spain, in April. The first race was held in 1924 with record champ José Antonio Gonzalez in the 70`s.
Because the Basque Country is a mountainous area there are hardly any flat stages, and the event's winners therefore tend to be good climbers. Most climbs in the Vuelta al País Vasco are not high, but often they are quite steep.

Our leader is Rider Hesjedal. Last year he was just 13th and he wants a better result in 2011. Danielson and Martin will help him as good as possible.
As we have nobody for the sprints we will try to come in the breakaways on the flat stages.
If we can get a stage win here like Murilo Fischer`s last year is questionable.

***** Contador

*** Cunego, Menchov, Kreuziger
** T.Martin, Brajkovic, Gesink, Wiggins
* Hesjedal, Kirchen, Monfort, Gerdemann, Lövkvist

and many more like Vaugrenard, Van Garderen, Rodríguez, Van den Broeck, Cobo Acebo...
In general a very good starting field. If Contador is in a good shape it will be very hard to beat him this year as he was also almost unbeatable here in 2010.
With many better time trialists it`s also hard for Hesjedal to get a very good result although the last 20km ITT is a bit hilly.

About RvV, I think the result was better than the ones in Cyanide's version. Pfft

Good luck for the Pais Vasco! Wink

Pretty hard startlist but I think that Hesjedal is strong enough to get a Top10, if not better.

Good luck for the Pais Vasco! Wink

Well, in Cyanide`s version it was not rarely that 100 men sprinted for the win Wink
But in my earlier tests it happened quite often that just one rider came in than a smaller group of 2-4 riders and then the first 20 men group. It was almost like in real in some tests. Now in my story and in Janne`s it was a sprint of about 25 guys. Not the worst but could be better.^^

Last season the fitness was quite similar and I didn`t made it. Especially the ITT is too long for Hesjedal.
Also the 3rd (?) stage with the MTF was not the best for him.
Hope I can do better this time.

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco - Stage 1
Zierbana - Zierbana

img217.imageshack.us/img217/986/pcm0001k.jpg
The stage is quite hilly but probably not hard enough for a fight between the favourites. Especially the last kilometer is a hard uphill finish. So most important is to be in front with Hesjedal in the end. Also Danielson and Martin at least should be there from our team.

img703.imageshack.us/img703/6563/pcm0002.jpg
35km after the start some riders attacked. Rosendo (Andalucia), Vanendert (Omega), Kuschynski (Liquigas), Voss (Milram), Gautier (Bbox), Cioni (Sky), Offredo (FDJ) and Muravyev (RadioShack).
We tried to send Svein Tuft in this group but he was caught again with some others.

img256.imageshack.us/img256/1635/pcm0003o.jpg
Especially KAtusha, Astana and Saxobank are doing the pace behind.
So Kirchen, F.Schleck and Contador have a strong squad here. There is also Rodriguez and Vinokourov you mustn`t forget. Porte and Fuglsang, who could be leaders on their own are already doing pace for Schleck.

img30.imageshack.us/img30/1578/pcm0004k.jpg
The last mountain splits the break and the field.
So just Gautier and Vanendert are still in front but the peloton is coming very close now. Unfortunately it started to rain, so the riders must be careful on the descent.

img13.imageshack.us/img13/4629/pcm0005.jpg
Not careful enough obviously. One of Katusha`s leaders Kolobnev crashes and falls back of the favourite`s group with 41 riders.
Sastre, Petrov and surprisingly also Rodriguez are waiting for him, so just Kirchen is in front now.
In the next corner also N.Roche crashes and another "top 10" guy is missing.

img109.imageshack.us/img109/3032/pcm0006.jpg
The last km begins and Sanchez, Schleck and Contador are in front. Also Hesjedal is in a good position right behind Sanchez. The slope here is harder than expected.

img24.imageshack.us/img24/8087/pcm0007x.jpg
A very close finish between Schleck and Sanchez, but in the end it is F. Schleck who takes the leader jersey. Hesjedal on 7 and Danielson on 19 are our only riders in this group. Martin, who still is getting a good shape is in the second big group with +1'25 with some other big names: Armstrong, Brajkovic, Lövkvist, Roche, Rodriguez, Kolobnev, Voigt. Van Den Broeck (+3'53), Van Garderen (4'09) and Anton (4'25) can almost forget to get a good result here. So his crash in Tirreno is still not totally "healed".

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco - Stage 2
Zierbana - Viana

It`s a similar stage than yesterday. Quite hilly but again some sprinters will survive in the first group. Especially as there is not uphill finish a sprinter will win this probably.

img89.imageshack.us/img89/2680/pcm0008x.jpg
More luck today. Jack Bobridge picked the right group.
His attendants are Bouet (Ag2r), Montenegro (Andalucia), Pacheco (Xacobeo) and Scheirlinckx (Omega).

img713.imageshack.us/img713/7236/pcm0009.jpg
On the first real mountain they have already an advantage of 10'34 and 149km to go. Bobridge is a bit behind the other four. But he just saved his energy on the last meters and will join them on the descent again.
But obviously he was the only one with a little problem.

img23.imageshack.us/img23/6310/pcm0010f.jpg
Sky for Wiggins or Sutton in a sprint and RadioShack for Ventoso are doing the pace and so the gap becomes smaller and smaller again.
Doesn`t look good for Bobridge and the group.
61km -> 5'13

img688.imageshack.us/img688/8236/pcm0011.jpg
12km to Viana the last rider is caught. Scheirlinckz tried to attack a 2nd time but he also had no chance. Who will be the strongest spritner. Ventoso is a high bet on this profile here and obviously he feels good as RadioShack did the pace without a real rider for the overall.

img259.imageshack.us/img259/8307/pcm0012c.jpg
But two other teams were better than the Shack in the end.
Marko Kump wins ahead of Vicente Reynès and Francisco Ventoso.
This young guy seems to be very interesting in the next couple of years, a very good transfer by Liquigas.

Good job, no time loss with Hesjedal, I think he is a good bet for a Top10. But I do not like the fact that Lance is already 1'25" down Sad And who is Elbrus Maximchuk?

img831.imageshack.us/img831/9267/unbenannt2fw.th.jpg
Lance is already 39 and worse than in first season. Plus not in best shape that early.

img4.imageshack.us/img4/3416/unbenanntuvo.th.jpg
Maximchuk is a neo-pro. Not bad in cobbles and sprint actually but don`t know how much talent he has. But obviously he felt out of the time limit on stage 2 as I couldn`t find him there.

Forgot to change the language but I guess you can read it Wink

janne_837
Thank you! I am sure that Lance is still able to win the TdF

FreitasPCM
I've never seen Lance's stats so low in April 2011. He decreases a bit, but not like that in my careers. Pfft

His start stats. Maybe he is strogner in other DB`s and so the step seems bigger. It`s 1,3 season played so far.

janne_837
Pretty good stats, maybe a bit better in prologue, but thats just my opinion.
