This stage might be the last opportunity for the sprinters to shine in Paris - Nice. Arvesen won yesterday but it's seems way harder to repeat that today in normal weather conditions and with the bunch of top quality sprinters present here
After crashing yesterday and losing the fight for the general classification before it started, Evans took part in the day's main breakaway. Riders like Muravyev, Langeveld, Rabon or Pate joined him. The only one interested in the KoM points was Langeveld who got the same amount of points as Auge in yesterday's stage but it was enough for the Dutch to become the new King of the Mountains in Paris - Nice
Even with those names in front it was impossible for the breakaway to stay in front of the pack until the finish and we are going to have an another mass sprint. It looks like every stage we have a big name going, yesterday it was Evans, today it's the winner of Le Tour '06 Oscar Pereiro but the good news is that no one else went down him. Again even though he wasn't involved in any crash, Luis Leon Sanchez couldn't keep it up with the pack in the final kilometers and lost again over 5 minutes
Back to the sprint... Swift again had problems keeping it up with the fastest riders in the pack and he wasn't able to join the train made by Arvesen and Sutton. It was other riders who followed our train: Modory, Petacchi and Bennati
Arvesen was again very fast in the first meters of the sprint and the good news for us might be that Bennati leaved our splistream and lost what could have been a great position for him
Sutton failed to sprint properly from Arvesen's wheel inside the last kilometer and missed the chance to take a stage win. It was Lloyd Mondory who took the lead from Arvesen, with Petacchi right behind him
The Italian came very fast in the last meters but it was too late to stop Modory who brings an amazing win to the French fans. Sutton finished only 8th and once again Arvesen was Sky's best rider, with today's fourth place becoming the new leader of the points classification

The things become serious in Paris - Nice in stage four, which is the first hilly stage of the race. Valverde is the main favorite of the day and it will be interesting too see if Germdemann's great early shape will be enough to help him keep the yellow jersey as Valverde is only 13 seconds behind him
Podgornyy, Ista, Mangel and Sorensen were the 4 escapes of the day. This time we had the first serious leader in the KoM classification, Podgornyy achieving 14 points, 6 more than what Auge and Langeveld did. But they weren't able to beat the pack either, as they were caught even before the last climb of the day
Two French riders went clear at the top of the climb: Fedrigo and Mouncutie. This might turn out into an interesting move as Fedrigo is only 22 seconds behind Gerdemann in the general classification and in less than 2 kilometers he and Mouncutie made a gap of almost 40 seconds
But it was quite hard for them to stay alone in front as 3 kilometers before the summit the big attacks started in the pack. Valverde was the strongest there and managed to join the French duo right at the top of the climb. One of Fedrigo's team - mates, Sprick, was also pretty close behind the leading group
Joly lead at the summit the main chasing group, made of four riders. Igor Anton, Le Mevel and the yellow jersey, Linus Gerdemann, were with the Sojasun rider. But the bad news for them is that they are almost one minute behind the leading group and they managed to gain only 30 seconds to the pack
Sprick joined the leading group on the downhill and it was going to be a sprint in 4 for the stage win, with Valverde clearly being the main favorite there and Mouncutie with the last chance to win the sprint
But after leading for almost the whole way down, Fedrigo got a better position than Valverde in the sprint and he takes an another amazing win for Bbox Bouygues Telecom. Valverde finished only second but he still has a nice chance to take the overall lead from Gerdemann
Joly lead the chasing group to the line, which Chavanel came very fast on the downhill to join in, but they were 1 minute and 13 seconds behind Fedrigo's group which means that Gerdemann will have to let go the yellow jersey and Valverde becomes the new leader of the race. Also the German is going to be only 5th in the general classification now, being overtook by all the 4 riders from the leading group. Behind them, Arvesen beat Armstrong and took the 10th place, gaining some important points for the green jersey. The pack came 1 minute and 32 seconds behind the winner

As always Paris - Nice and Tirreno - Adriatico are held at the same time, but with the last one starting a few days later. With so many big names in Paris - Nice it looked pretty hard to have an impressive startlist in "the race of the two seas" as well. But it is and names like Devolder, Pozzato, Menchov, Frank Schleck, Cunego, Simoni, Basso, Pellizotti or Garzelli are just a few names will start today in Cecina. But as with Contador in France, Menchov and Schleck will be riding here only their first race at a top level so we don't know anything about their current form.
Looking at the sprinters' list there are a lot of top quality ones here: Cavendish, Freire, Farrar, McEwen, Cooke, Renshaw, Koldo Fernandez, Eisel, Brown and Bozic. This means that it will be pretty hard for our train to repeat Boasson Hagen's wins from Andalucia but he hope to get at least a few podium spots in the flat stages.
Lovkvist is our leaders here and with his last performance in Murcia we can even hope for a place in top 5 at the end of the race. Hagen could also count in the fight for the overall battle if the climbs won't probe to hard for him. But even if they do, he is still our main sprinter for the flat stages, supported by Flecha and Vigano.
Team Sky for Tirreno - Adriatico:
Michael Barry
Edvald Boasson Hagen
Kjell Karlström
Dario Cioni
Juan Antonio Flecha
Thomas Lövkvist
Morris Possoni
Davide Viganò

The first stage in Tirreno - Adriatico seems to be one made for sprinters, even though there's quite a steep climb before the finish, with the summit inside the last 10 kilometers of the stage. The main 3 favorites of the day are Cavendish, Farrar and Freire
The escapes didn't stand a chance in front of the pack today and they were caught before the climb. There Cancellara, Albasini, Lovkvist, Nuyens and Garzelli tried an attack but they didn't managed to creat a big gap and they were brought back in the pack. Still we had some action before the mass sprint as Karlstrom crashed on the downhill bringing down with him over 50 riders. Schleck, Boasson Hagen, Freire, Farrar, Furlan, Pozzovivo, Koldo Fernandez, Eisel, Gasparotto, Renshaw, Rojas, Bozic, Hoogerland, Simoni, McEwen and Jackson Rodriguez were just of a few of the riders that were involved in the crash
With such a large number of riders involved in that crash in was impossible for anyone to control the sprint. With Boasson Hagen down and Vigano too tired after trying to hang on in the pack on the climb, Flecha was our only hope for the sprint. He got in the splipstream of Pozzato, who seemed to have the best position, but Canvendish and Davis were also there
Inside the last kilometer they all tried to go pass Pozzato. Even though he was clearly the weakest sprinter from the leading 4, Flecha looked to be a little bit more faster than Alan David, but Cavendish clearly over shined both
And it's Cavendish who takes the opening stage in Tirreno - Adriatico, becoming the first leader of the race. Pozzato and Flecha followed him on the podium, with an amazing result for the last one judging by his sprint abilities. Hagen's group, with mostly all the riders involved in the crash, finished at more than 3 minutes behind Cavendish which means that the race for the overall rankings is already over for them

you or the leader needs over 2 minutes b4 the TT stage over Cancellara, he has to be hot fav. Im also playing with Sky but finding it really hard to get wins, the squad isn't as strong as i thought it would be, like you im just coming up to the spring classics and if Flecha doesn't produce here i think im gonna get the sack! |

hopefully the Montelupone stage will be too hard for his and he will loose some valuable time there. Also his recovery stat isn't really the best so I still hope for an open fight.
Good luck not being sacked. I don't think I'm going to have any problems with that. Even though I didn't have great results recently I had some amazing performances in the first continental races of the season and the sponsors are more than happy with the 14 wins that we got so far.

well Flecha has a nice fitness at the moment with the classics approaching so he had no problems following some wheels and then getting into Pozzato's slipstream but beating Davis in the the sprint was quite surprising for me too

There a quite a few climbs on today's route but whit a little bit of luck we might see an another mass sprint. This should favor Arvesen as he will have the chance to win some points over the GC riders for the green jersey
Reynes, Langeveld, Sorensen and Charteau got in the breakaway today. Even though Flecha was the only one that had scored points in the KoM rankings before the stage, they all passed Pidgornyy in battle for the polka dot jersey. Bbox are on fire at the moment, after Fedrigo and Sprick finished in the first group yesterday, with the first one also winning the stage, Charteau become today the new King of the Mountains in Paris - Nice
All the four escapes were caught before the last 10 kilometers of the race. But even though we are going to have a mass sprint, only 3 Sky riders were able to follow the pack after today's climbs: Wiggins, Arvesen and Calzati. And if that wasn't enough for our bad luck Wiggins crashed with just 7 kilometers left from the stage. Arvesen, who was right behind him, couldn't avoid his bike and went down as well. Some other riders were also involved in the crash, but not any of the GC favorites, the biggest names who went down, except for the 2 Sky riders who caused it in the first place, were Voigt, Rujano, Pinotti and Rubiera
Without Sky there no team was able to control the sprint even though Katusha had a really nice attempt. Ciolek found his way to the front of the pack all by himself, but he was followed by Petacchi, Bennati and Napolitano, which wasn't really good news for him
Breschel was also there but it looked quite hard for him to involve in the battle for the stage win as inside the last kilometer still no one was able to attack Ciolek
Petacchi was right behind the German but he failed to sprint properly and lost even the third position there to Napolitano. Bennati was the only one who could stop Ciolek now...
And it was a really close finish between but the judges decided that the win will go to Bennati. Bennati got 25 points to thanks to his win, while Arvesen wasn't able to win any due to his crash, which means that Bennati is the new wearer of the green jersey. Arvesen and Wiggins lost one minute and forty - nine seconds today and our hopes for a top 10 overall are ruined now

I wouldn't count on that. Not with Wiggins' fitness at the moment. Thank god Arvesen won the second stage, otherwise this would have been a horrible race for us
