awesome story so far hey

No, Ian just doesn't do that. It's a 'rule' of his story

Public demand can do a lot

krisa - About as close as it gets!

Jesleyh - Just watch him

next year he can win everything!

sutty68 - Sure is, mm-sprint.

PCM rulezz - Well, with those 2 points he regained the KoM jersey

Willy is unpredictable

alex valceanu - La Primavera will be mighty interesting! A race which Stijn definitely should win once in his career, considering his talents, but you still have to win it!

contsupreme - Thanks a lot! Though like Jesleyh said, stats are not a part of this story. I occasionally give out stats of riders in which people are interested, but Stijn's and Willy's are secret, hope you don't mind

SSJ2Luigi - A lot, but not everything

Sorry for the lack of updates today. A bit more work and went cycling. Hope to do a bit more tomorrow!

It cost me quite some energy

But today I'll do 1 or 2 races. (I have an exam Saturday, but I'll try to do my best)

Paris - Nice :: Stage 6

Preview

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn601_zpsa6a3e1c5.jpg

Stijn: We have to protect the yellow jersey. so I reckon I will get a nice training today...

Willy: The team will have a hard time today, I'll buy all the lads a drink after this Paris - Nice is over!

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

I did some work today, it was a good training for San Remo, with the hills.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn604_zps0e1acbca.jpg

Willy Wouters

The day started with some riders attacking furiously, it was crazy. A way too big a group got away with some dangerous names. This wouldn't be an easy day...

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn602_zps7154bcdd.jpg

The whole team worked themselves to the bone to keep the break under control. As expected, no other team came to the help. Then an angel came from the sky, one man, Stijn Van Gent, kept the breakaway at 2 minutes for 40 km, just him!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn603_zps63c60d79.jpg

At one point he was riding so hard the peloton lost him!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn605_zpsd2fc9b3a.jpg

When his job was done, Talansky worked so hard the break came at about 1'30", a gap I closed myself, out of necessity.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn606_zpsbc5df596.jpg

Coming near the top, I figured, what the hell, and took the points.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn607_zps91a88ac2.jpg

Nobody got away after that (thanks for Velits!) and we would sprint for the win, I had lost a lot of energy during the stage, but my legs were good!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn608_zps522d8313.jpg

Not good enough, but I increase my lead to one minute! Nordhaug was the fastest today in what was an extremely tough and fast stage!

Aftermath

Holding all jerseys, amazing! Though I feel kind of bad to snatch away Stijn's points jersey after his work today. All in all this was an amazing training for him. I have a feeling he might surprise the world in Milan - San Remo...

See you tomorrow, for the final stage in the peloton (then another TT),
Willy & Stijn

Willy is starting to perform as a puncheur as well, would love to see him ride the Ardennes this year!

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Great result from Willy. Can't stop his momentum at the moment.

Ollfardh - Unfortunately he'll be riding prep races for the Giro. But maybe next season!

wogsrus - He's on a roll!

Paris - Nice :: Stage 7

Preview

Stijn: Another hard day of work, I reckon.

Willy: The final chance before the time trial, I expect some people to attack hard.

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

As I expected, I had to do some work. The break wasn't as strong as yesterday, though, so all in all it was okay.

Willy Wouters

The terrain was grueling for some of our men. I ended up alone a bit too soon, I thought.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn703_zpsd0d85975.jpg

But lucky for me, late attacks amounted to nothing, and we were ready for a final sprint uphill, with a small bunch.

I took a risk cutting the corner and going closely past the spectators, but it payed off, my first stage win in Paris - Nice!

Aftermath

Well, right before the MTT on Col d'Eze, I have the points jersey and the mountain jersey already in the pocket. Under normal circumstances, that yellow jersey should be mine. And that would give me great courage for the Giro!

I just had my second stage of the year, I will try to make tomorrow my third!
Until then,
Stijn & Willy

Fantastic results, very impressive! Although it is stage 7, not twice 6, I think

wogsrus - Nothing but an atom bomb will stop him!

cunego59 - Thanks for correcting me

(unless it was stage 6a and 6b, both those two stages on one day, I don't think so)

Paris - Nice :: Stage 8

Preview

The final stage. Let us see who has any energy left.

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

To be honest, this last stage was an obligatory subject. I would've gone home but I couldn't catch a flight early today so I might as well finish the race and go home with the team.

I got some moral support, though! That was it for me, I'm ready for Milano - San Remo!

Willy Wouters

Surrounded by Belgian, Flemish and American flags, I found a good pace fairly soon.

The GC was in the pocket, but the stage win was a tight battle, Martin had put in an excellent performance.

Aftermath

Well, THAT is cleaning up. Willy goes home with all jerseys, a very creditable result.

And to think, almost a year ago, that fool decided to go into triathlon!

See you for Milan - San Remo,
Stijn & Willy

Very nice win for Willy, though probably not the strongest opposion he has had so far.

Also, after that stage 7 win, I'm starting a petition to get him in the Ardennes

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

TO ALL READERS: Firstly, thanks to everyone for following (and commenting). This has kept the motivation high and, even when motivation was lacking, kept me going! I think we're at an important turn point here in the story. Willy's strong and might start competing for GT wins, Stijn might get that monument or the WC.

So I wondered: Will there still be as much interest in this story, or will the general public lose interest or excitement from this story? I think so far they developed quite nicely (a tad too fast, realistically seen, but then again, you always have people like Sagan), and now I've "frozen" their development by not assigning them a coach/trainer, try to level out their development for the coming years, their "prime" years.

Anyway, just thought I'd ask. 99% chance I'll continue anyway, though, but it's always nice to know what the readers like

Thanks!

Ian Butler
