Double Feature | THE END

OMG, STijn won!!!!! Okay, not the strngest sprinting field, but you still have to do it. WHat are the Sp-stats of Boeckmans and Degenkolb btw?
imageshack.us/a/img171/3023/petronasmesig2.png

Ian Butler
PCM rulezz - Sure are Grin

wogsrus - Hope nobody puts them out for a long time!

sutty68 - It sure is getting impressive. I think Stijn can go for +100 professional victories in his career, going at this race (already 33)

dienblad - Indeed! Don't forget Mark Cavendish is here! But the PCM sprinting bug struck again and he dropped out of the front lines, before I set up my lead-out.

Degenkolb: 83 SP
Boeckmans: 79 SP

I can say Stijn is somewhere between that.

Thanks for the support!

Paris - Nice :: Stage 4

Preview

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn401_zpse9b3ee07.jpg

Stijn: Tomorrow is my last chance to do something, so I will save energy today!

Willy: Should be a pretty selective climb. Cancellara should be bumped from his first place today. I feel I'm ready to take it over now, I'm going for it!

The Race

Stijn Van Gent

Andrew, not Edward, Talansky got in the breakaway and surely was looking for a stage win today. I saved energy and finished in the gruppetto.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn402_zps768e8ac1.jpg

Willy Wouters

Talansky raced pretty well and on the final climb he had 5 minutes on us.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn403_zps2b3b1f02.jpg

Suddenly, I jumped out of the peloton. I was hoping to get someone, a pure climber preferably, to come with me, but it was just me and the chasers behind me.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn404_zpsf99927d9.jpg

I joined up with the break right before the final sprint. Then I made a mistake, I wanted to give Talansky the win, so I waited with him and would lead him out!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn405_zps2220ac39.jpg

But they weren't waiting behind me, Pinot jumped right past me. One look at Talansky, he didn't have the energy left to catch up with Pinot.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn406_zps71f43a2f.jpg

I made the jump to him and caught him a tad too late, but no worry, because we get quite a gap!

Aftermath

Well, this was a success. Despite missing the stage win with Talansky and Willy, we have the yellow jersey.

Tomorrow is the final chance for the sprinters!
Until then,
Stijn & Willy

Looks like Willy has been getting sprinting tips from Stijn Smile

And nice to see him in the yellow jersey Wink

PCM rulezz
Hope Willy can hold the yellow jersey
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

Ollfardh
Just tell the media you let Pinot win and he owns you a favour now Wink
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

A shame that he missed the win, but this is still great! Willy is the leader now.
Garmin will have a tough day of working tomorrow, having the stage favourite and the GC leader...

sutty68 - If he gave him some tips, they sure were useful Wink

PCM rulezz - He will definitely fight for it!

Ollfardh - Sounds like a plan Pfft

krisa - Willy always has his eye on the bigger picture Wink

Jesleyh - Yes, I'm afraid I won't be able to sit back anymore. Time for work. Oh well, they better start practicing for the Giro Grin

More racing tomorrow. But I might go riding myself tomorrow in the Flemish Ardennes, so I'll see when I have time!

wogsrus
Consistency the key for Willy. Only a couple of stages left.

Stijn: With a good enough lead-out, I might get a second stage win!

Willy: Today I will try to keep the jersey using as little energy as possible.

The Race

Willy Wouters

The move to Garmin was definitely a right one. A yellow jersey looks amazing on this kit!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn502_zpsb77673df.jpg

The breakaway group was only thee man strong, so we were kind of relieved.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn503_zpsc945a28f.jpg

I put the man to work and there was never any danger. A good stage today!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn504_zps59e044be.jpg

And as a bonus I even picked up a fourth place at the mountain, taking two points and re-conquering the mountain jersey.

Stijn Van Gent

The guys set up a decent lead-out, but near the finish it got messed because of Sky, then I decided to take Cavendish' wheel.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn506_zpsb2d4fa0a.jpg

A mistake, since he waited too long for his sprint, I had to sprint out of his wheel to the front.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/pn507_zps5a4e7efc.jpg

Most of the riders started sprinting a bit early, though, only Van Avermaet was still going strong, but I was going a bit faster!

Aftermath

Damn, that was close! This was probably my final test for Milan - San Remo. I certainly hope Milan - San Remo will be a tough race, so that the faster sprinters drop before the Poggio.

Tomorrow we have a finish in Fayence, a steep hill!
See you then,
Stijn & Willy

Close call today. Love the fact that willy said that he would save some energy but still puts an effort for the mountain jersey Wink
