Didn't see the post until now, congratulations mate!! Things like PCM become ridiculously unimportant in comparison to such news. I'm really happy for you and wish you all the best!

Stage 3
The 3rd stage in this Vuelta a Andalucia between Otura and Jaén is hilly and the last 3 kilometres are uphill as well. A chance to regain some GC-time?
A 6-men breakaway stays out of reach of the peloton, as no team seems to be interested in doing the chase. Enrique Salgueiros (Movistar) wins the sprint in the leading group, beating Jan Ghyselinck (Accent.Jobs) in the uphill sprint.
The peloton finishes at 2'34, with GC's number 3 Serafín Martínez loosing time and his place.

Stage 4
The 4th and penultimate stage from La Guardia de Jaén to Córdoba is pretty flat and could be won by a sprinter.
Just as yesterday, a breakaway is succesful. 8 riders create a maximum margin of 11'30. Best ranked in the GC is Rafael Valls (Nespresso), and being 5'46 behind GC-leader Maxime Méderel, he rides in virtual yellow for a long time.
Ricardo Garcia (Orbea) wins the sprint of the leading group, beating Valls and Rubén Martinez (Caja Rural). Borut Bozic wins the sprint of the peloton at 3'46.

Word from the DS
2 bad stages for the team, looking at the stage results. But looking at the GC, we made some progress and with Marc De Maar, we are in 3rd place now, without big hopes of improving.

Stage 5
The last stage in the Vuelta a Andalucia is 165 kilometres long between Córdoba and Antequera. It's pretty flat, so maybe this one will end in a mass sprint.
Just as in the previous stages, a breakaway manages to stay in front of the peloton and sprints for the stage win. If it wasn't for our team, the breakaway would have won with more than 10 minutes, as no other team wanted to participate in the chase.
Rubén Martínez from the Caja Rural-team wins the sprint of the leading group, beating Raúl Alarcón (Barbot) and Daniele Ratto (Nespresso). The peloton finishes at 6'27.

Not a bad Vuelta a Andalucia, with one stage win, a 3rd in the GC and the KOTM-jersey. We can live with that

The race
128km to go
The first 60 kilometres of the race are relatively boring. 2 times, a bunch of riders tries to break away, but they get caught. Then a group of 5 manages to create a margin of over 1 and a half minute to the peloton. Members of this group are Olaf Riesebeek (Rabo CT), Nicolas Vogondy (Cofidis), Simon Bailly (Omega Pharma), Martijn Keizer (Vacansoleil) and Damiano Cunego (Radio Shack). The biggest surprise of course, is that Cunego is riding the Omloop and in the attack. Everybody thought he hated cobbles....
120km to go
With still 120 kilometres to go, we see the first serious attack out of the peloton. With the 5 leaders about 2 minutes ahead, Phil Laverty (An Post) and Bjorn Leukemans (Sony Ericsson) attack. Especially Leukemans is an outsider for the win, considering his stats of Co 78!
96km to go
Even though Leukemans can be a thread to win the Omloop, the peloton isn't interested in chasing him. Climbing the Valkenberg, with 96km to go, the 7 leaders (of course, Leukemans and Laverty have closed the gap to the 5 leaders) have a margin of 7 minutes to the peloton. In the peloton the domestiques of Accent.Jobs and BMC are doing the pace.
65km to go
Leukemans and Laverty have dropped their 5 companions at the Kruisberg. Riding over the cobbled section of the Donderij, they have a lead of '52 to the 5 and 5'29 to a group of 53 riders. Surprisingly, some big names are absent in that groups, such as Bobbie Traksel (Landbouwkrediet, Co 77), Maxim Iglinskiy (CCC, Co 76) and Thor Hushovd (Lotto, Co 80).
45km to go
Right after the set of hills (Kruisberg, Taaienberg, Eikeberg, Wolveberg) and the 3rd passage of the cobbled Haaghoek, the peloton is shattered in many, many pieces. 2'44 behind Leukemans and Laverty rides a group with Philippe Gilbert (Lotto) and 4 Monster Energy-riders (Breschel, Maaskant, Terpstra & Vermeltfoort), at 3'23 rides a group of 15 with Ballan, Flecha, Chavanel, Roelandts and Boonen. A group with Vansummeren, Van Avermaet, Bol and Eisel follows at 5'40 and can put a cross through the ambitions today.
19km to go
The cobbled sections of the Paddestraat, Lippenhovestraat and Lange Munte have been done, and teh first part of the peloton consisting of 20 riders has thinned out to 7: Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky), Alessandro Ballan (BMC), Philippe Gilbert (Lotto), Sylvain Chavanel (Garmin) and Matti Breschel, Martijn Maaskant & Niki Terpstra. They ride only 35 seconds behind the 2 leaders. Tom Leezer (M&M's) follows at 1'01 and a group with Tom Boonen (Sony Ericsson) and William Bonnet (FDJ) at 1'55.
11km to go
Leukemans and Laverty get caught at the last cobbled section of the Steenakker. At this point, Leezer is '52 behind the 9 leaders, and Boonen 1'01 behind.
10km to go
Last year's winner Tom Boonen is flying over the Steenakker and rapidly closes the gap to the leaders. Within 2 kilometres he has cut down the gap with 30 seconds! Meanwhile, Laverty has been dropped out of the leading group.
8km to go
Boonen flies over Gilbert and Chavanel, who have been dropped out of the leading group. Reason for that is Niki Terpstra, who sets an incredibly high pace. Boonen is only '20 behind that group.
3km to go
Just before the sprint starts, Tom Boonen joins the leading group of 5. With 3 of our riders present, including Breschel with still a lot of energy left (daily form of 0). Only Ballan and Flecha are able to follow our 3 riders. The question is if Boonen has some energy left to sprint, or if he is dead empty.
2km to go
With 2 km to go, Maaskant takes over from a tired Terpstra, with Breschel in the best position. Boonen looks to be too tired after his great chase.
1km to go
Under the flamme rouge, Matti Breschel starts his jump and is heading for the win.
Finish
Flecha stays in the wheel, but can't overtake our Danish leader. A great win for Matti Breschel, after winning the Tour Down Under earlier in the season! Flecha finishes in 2nd, Ballan in 3rd, followed by Maaskant and Boonen. Terpstra finishes in 6th, Leukemans in 7th at 1'32 and Laverty beats Gilbert, Chavanel and Vansummeren (where did he come from??) for the 8th place at 1'52.

The winner
Word from the DS
Now this was great!! Even though the riders didn't have a great daily form, the tactic to make it a hard race worked perfectly. All the opponents got dropped or lost time due to bad placing before the hills. In th elast part, Terpstra sacrificed himself and Breschel finished it off perfectly!!

Why's Vanmarcke a team mate, I think he should be a free element
His cobbled stats are only 74 or 75, the other 3 have 80 and over, that's why!

Great win by Breschel! I'm curious though, why wasn't Cancellara there? |
