TOUR DE FRANCE 08
Best:
...rider: Carlos Sastre, he won the race, no more to say.
...young rider: Andy Schleck, he won the youth jersey, no more to say here either
...climber: Bernhard Kohl. Except for the Alpe D'Huez stage he was the best climber this year
...young climber: Remy Di Gregorio. I fell in love with the guy after his breakaway on one of the stages (And I'm not gay)
...sprinter: Mark Cavendish, he might not won the sprinters jersey, but he was far better than Freire, who won the jersey with 5-10 results.
...young sprinter: Sebastien Chavanel, since Cav was best overall he couldn't get this price as well, so Chavanel gets it in tight competition with Ciolek.
...fighter: Stefan Schumacher/Sylvain Chavanel who both just attacked and attacked and attacked again. I like that sort of cycling.
...surprise: Bernhard Kohl/Christian Vandevelde, didn't expect anything from neither of them.
Worst:
...favourite: Haimar Zubeldia, didn't look like he was anywhere near peaking. I hope he will do better in the Vuelta
...sprinter favourite: Geert Steegmans. Be ashamed Geert, 3 top 10's isn't anywhere good enough for a rider who was expected to fight for the green. He only won on Champs Elysees because Ciolek got pushed away.
...luck: Nicolas Vogondy, getting passed with 30 meters to go is just bad luck. |

Fofonov
https://news.bbc.c...527891.stm
"A fourth cyclist has tested positive for a banned stimulant during the 2008 Tour de France, according to the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD).
Kazakhstan's Dmitriy Fofonov, who rides for Credit Agricole, returned a positive result after the 18th stage"

im sorry but i just have to disagree with you on the young sprinter. how can you not put ciolek there? if you dont want two riders on the same price ciolek shouldnt have any competition on that spot. and geert DID win the champs elysees, so i would say hunter disapointed me more |

I concur, that country could really do with something to shout about.

I really don't want an oppressive dictatorship to have anything to shout about. Besides, they'll never be informed of this. Their government will forbid all news media from releasing this news just like they did with Vino, Kash, and all the other Astana idiots

1. agreed, Ciolek was quite fantastic
2. Hunter didn't disappoint me for one simple reason: he's a mediocre sprinter. he won a stage last year when pretty much no sprinters were left in the pack and everyone went ape about it. he's not very good.

Zubeldia was not designated team leader, and Steegmans spent the whole year training to be a lead out man which is completely different to training to be a sprinter. Winning a stage in those conditions was pretty damn good, I think.
Seb Chavanel was a major disappointment for me. i didn't like Syl Chavanel because he was tactically a complete idiot. he has zero teactical sense.
How can Kohl be your best climber if he was dropped on all mountain stages bar one?

Living under a dictatorship is all the more reason to have something to shout about.

yeah, but sporting success is one of the more common ways a dictatorship distracts it's people from the real issues of the country. and it works extremely well.

I would have to disagree, whether people are living under a dictatorship or not they just want to watch their teams play sports against other nations. But at the end of the day Astana are proof that the western world cherry picks which dictatorships are suitable or unsuitable.

there are countless examples of dictatorships only being torn down when the country stopped having sporting success for years. Brazil being the most obvious one

exactly.

Fofonov? Credit Agricole? Hm, a shame, I always saw Agricole as a strict anti-doping team. |

no matter how clean a team is, it doesn't stop one random idiot from operating alone.
I hope this doesn't negatively affect the supposed portuguese sponsor taking over the team

Damn, Fofonov, I liked him...
Anyway, nice for Steegmans to finally show what he can do. His lead-out was perfect, even Millar led him out
and for one last time... "CAAAARLOOOOS"

It'seems that Kazakh cyclists have no brains or morales..
I think Kohl was the best climber at this years tour,he seemed comfortable and only Sastre could keep his wheel into Prata Nevaso..

Andy Schleck/Carlos Sastre were the strongest on Alpe d'Huez though
