After a bumpy start for Stijn, he seized to victory in stage 4. It was the first victory for him and for the team this season, so the relief was great all around.
But things even got better. The next day, in a 80 km stage, Willy took the peloton over a little hill, with Stijn in his wheel. For the finale, he set such an effort that, in combination with the wind, they and two others split with the peloton.
Stijn only had to finish off the work, and he did. 2 for 2!
The peloton was struggling against the wind and Willy even managed to finish 2nd. 1 Stijn, 2 Willy! Once again together on the podium.
For the final time trial, Willy had to start in the Young Jersey. He refused and said he wanted to start in his rainbow jersey, but they wouldn't cave. So Willy left with the white jersey.
It was an uphill time trial for the second part, so he took an astonishing 14 seconds on Cancellara and won the stage!
Stijn clearly hasn't been practising on his time trial bike. Luckily aerodynamics don't matter too much going uphill, so Stijn secured his yellow jersey!
Yellow Jersey: Stijn Van Gent (Team Garmin)
Green Jersey: Stijn Van Gent (Team Garmin)
Mountain Jersey: Edward Talansky (Team Garmin)
Young Jersey: Stijn Van Gent (Team Garmin)
Best Team: Team Garmin
Well, we really went for it there. Team Garmin shows its strength by taking away all possible prizes. Stijn started decently but picked up the pace fast and was unstoppable for the final races. Willy showed good early form by splitting from the pack.
All in all, this has been a major success. Our pre-season training in the US of A, with the scientific approach, is doing wonders. Our form is good. One more preparation race and we should be ready for the real season!
Who is edward talansky itr should be andrew

FreitasPCM - Thanks
Jakstar22 - I sure hope so. Maybe it'll be a race like it is for Tom Boonen. Do you realize that Boonen (irl) never won the Omloop?
sutty68 - It sure looked good to me
wogsrus - Thanks!
alex344 - Hope so, too! Thanks.
krisa & suty68 - Oh right
Could be Edward, maybe he changed his name in 2014, you don't know

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
Stijn: After finishing 2nd two years in a row, I hope to take it one step further this year. My current form and the bad weather should make it easier for me to take that step. Frank Deboosere (Belgium's most famous weather man) predicts rain and about 5-7° C, that will play in my advantage.
Stijn Van Gent
When I woke up, I felt that today would be my day! It was raining. Don't get me wrong, nobody actually likes riding 5 hours in the rain, but I like it because it bothers other people much more, see?
Anyhow, de Jong proved his value by slipping into the morning breakaway!
With 50 km left to go, the pack was still pretty big. But there was a succession of many cobbled sections, small roads and turns. With the help of Vanmarcke , I slipped away. We both know this terrain by hard, which helps a lot!
Only one man joined me almost immediately. He saw the potential danger in me riding away, or he saw a chance to win, escaping in a small group. It was Cancellara .
We both put equal much energy into the break. However, a small group joined us anyway. Tom Boonen, Matti Breschel, Kenneth Vanbilsen, Nick Nuyens and Stijn Devolder.
This time I wouldn't let Boonen fool me. At the age of 25, I'm finally getting more cycling wisdom, instead of young rider's foolishness. I ended up in his wheel, the opposite of exactly one year ago.
I immediately saw he didn't have much punch in his legs. He even had a hard time following Cancellara sprinting. I thought it was safe to start my sprint!
I kept my back low and tried to make an acceleration impossible for him to follow. He missed my wheel and was in the wind himself, now!
I was so busy with the sprint it never occurred to me, but 2 meters in front of the finish it suddenly did: I'm winning the Omloop, the first Belgian race on the calendar, in the rain!
After a rein of three years by the legendary Tom Boonen , I am his successor. Finally.

This is amazing. Granted, it's "only" a .HC race, but for a Flandrien, for a Belgian, this means a whole lot! Where I grew up, every kid dreamed about winning two races: Omloop and the Ronde. I'm halfway there now!
Flash interview:
Sporza: We have Tom Boonen here. Tom, tell us, you were close to a fourth victory, which would be an absolute record.
Tom Boonen: I wasn't that close. (laughs) I've tried my best but Stijn was just much stronger today. During the final 10 km everyone in our group already know it was going to be Fabian or Stijn, they were the motor of the group.
Sporza: Can you take us through the final kilometer?
Tom Boonen: Everyone was very tired. The rain and the wind made for a tough, hard race. I think nearly everyone was a bloc. I followed Fabian, who was still going strong, but Stijn came out of my wheel, two gears too much for me.
Sporza: How is the condition, are you on course for the Ronde?
Tom Boonen: I think I am. I didn't have the best winter, but I rode the finale here today, so I think I'm pretty good.
Sporza: Thank you, Tom Boonen.
Tom Boonen: Thanks.
Sporza: Now we're here with the winner, Stijn Van Gent. You're slowly approaching your best years, is this a taste of what we should expect for the next five, six, seven years?
Van Gent: I certainly hope so (laughs). No, today I owe a lot to Cancellara, who did a big part of the work, too. I guess my timing was just perfect today, first with the break and later with the sprint.
Sporza: You win your first Omloop, congratulations. Where else can be expect to see you, going for the Ronde again?
Van Gent: Of course. Those are always my main goals. I live for races such as the Ronde and Roubaix. The competition is fierce, but I'm on course, my condition is great!
Sporza: Congratulations once again, and good luck tomorrow.
Van Gent: Thanks!
See you tomorrow,
Stijn

Stijn: Third last year. If I could do better, it'd be great. If Farrar survives the cobbles, I'll race more aggressively and he can wait for the sprint.
This is this year's profile of the Belgian National Championship, so it'll be important to see where there are opportunities here.
Stijn Van Gent
Once again, we got a rider in the breakaway, which relieved us of chasing duties. Thanks to Van Zandbeek.
The weather was about the same as in the Omloop.
After the final cobbled section, we still had a big part of the team together, including USA Champion Farrar . With him as a sprinter backup, I would be reacting to late attacks.
And I didn't have to wait long. Cancellara and Boonen tried to go!
They were brought back and everything was ready for a sprint. Not a real mass sprint, more chaotic, though.
Boonen kicked off strongly!
But it was Keukeleire who won. Amazing victory for him! I finish, like last year, third.

Looking at that result, this was nearly a Belgian Championship. Places 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 10...
I'd prefer to be on the first place then, though! Anyway, I finish on the podium here today and I guess you could say my Belgian opening weekend was a major success, with a win and a podium place! I'm ready for Samyn, where Keukeleire won last year!
See you then,
Stijn

Atlantius - He isn't buried yet, though
dienblad - Sorry, I'm having more time lately again. I'll try to slow down, but I'm extremely motivated for some reason, I can't explain. Today I'll just upload GP le Samyn and do the prologue of Paris - Nice. Then I'll stop for today
Daggen - Don't write him off, yet
But taking that win did feel good!
PCM rulezz - Will do! Hoping for an equally good cobbled campaign this season.
sutty68 - Thanks a lot!

GP Le Samyn
Stijn: Again we have three man who can win this. Me, Vanmarcke and Farrar. Depending on the race, one will be our focus. After my last two races and my current form, I'm absolute favorite today.
Stijn Van Gent
The race was more selective than we thought, partly because Landbouwkrediet decided to throw on a fast pace today.
We were grouped with three left, Farrar had fallen off the back. Most eyes were on me, so I told Vanmarcke to go his chance.
Some people made a real effort to bring him back, they didn't underestimate his capacities. As soon as he was caught, I took advantage and attacker myself. We could keep this up for as long as possible, taking turns attacking.
However, it wasn't necessary. A smaller group split off - Vanmarcke unfortunately missed it - and was chasing me. Last time over the hill, I was keeping them off.
On the last flat section, the wind came from the side. They were lurking at each other and attacking, my victory was safe. I just rode as fast as I could and finished the job!

Maybe interesting to give you an update on the race that Stijn won in 2013 and 2014, the Strade Bianchi. Powerhouse talent Cau took the win.

Well, my form is simply great. I'm really hoping to get one of the two flat stages in Paris - Nice!
But if it wasn't clear last year, it is now: I'm World Tour level for sure. I should leave these races for other contestants. Maybe I can start in some of them in the off-season, though.
Anyway, in three days Willy and me are starting in Paris - Nice. Wonder what Willy can do there. At least the prologue will be fun with his jersey!
See you then,
Stijn

Yeah, I expected a stronger field. With these races it's hard to know in advance what to expect. If I had known, I wouldn't have entered, but I expected guys ilke Vanbilsen and Roelandts there, both over 80 cobbles...
