Stage 5
After yesterday's mountain-top-finish, the Tour of Oman will be decided in today's ITT. The 19 kilometres are very hilly, featuring over 800 height metres, so the timetrialists need climbing skills as well.
The fastest time so far is set by former TT-world champion Fabian Cancellara. He has moved back to Bjarne Riis and Saxo Bank, with the goal of regaining his title a best time trialist in the world. Today he sets the first step, and he wins the ITT, in a time of 29'21.
The second place today goes to Movistar's Portuges rider Rui Costa, 20 seconds behind Cancellara. Rui Costa jumps to the 3rd place in the GC after today.
John Gadret was in 3rd place in the GC before the TT, and knows he'll drop some places after today, being a lousy timetrialist. He finshes in 41st today, dropping to 5th in the GC.
GC number 2 Daniel Navarro rides a pretty good TT, and finishes in 18th. It's good enough to stay in the 2nd place in the GC.
Wilco Kelderman is the big favourite to put on the leader's jersey after today, and does an excellent job. Our stage race-talent sets the 6th time, '33 behind Spartacus, and even enlarges his GC-lead! (I realize now that I took a lousy screenshot.....)

Stage 6
The last stage from Qurayyat to Mattrah Seafront is pretty flat again, and will probably end in mass sprint number 4.
8km to go
Luis Ángel Maté is the last one of a 11-man BOTD that gets caught 8 kilometres before the finish. Mass sprint again!
1km to go
With a few riders with a positive daily form, we decide to set up a sprint train again. Entering the last kilometre, Coen Vermeltfoort has gone to fast and has shred the peloton apart, partly thanks to the stormy winds. Matti Breschel has lost his wheel, but still has some energy left.
Finish
Breschel rides a great sprint, but has no chance against Filippo Pozzato, who shows he wil be THE man to beat in the Omloop - KBK double.
Francisco Ventoso finishes in 2nd and Breschel in 3rd. Wilco Kelderman takes the 6th place and wins the Tour of Oman!

Word from the DS
A stage win, the KOTM-jersey and the GC-win.... What a great week this has been for Wilco Kelderman, fulfilling his talent in stage races! Next stop for him is the Tirreno. And I got to mention Matti Breschel, with the 3rd plac ein the last stage, showing he's ready for the opener of the cobbles season.

With 7 stats over 80, Cancellara isn't a beast, but a monster! Unfortunately, not a blue low-carb monster

Thank you!! Well, cobbles are my weakest point (together with mass sprints), except for Paris-Rpubaix last year (3rd with Terpstra). We'll see. First the Vuelta a Andalucia.

@ TomC: nobody is unbeatable, but I think Pozzato , together with Breschel, is the man to beat Cancellara.

After an absence of one year, the team starts again in the Vuelta a Andalucia, a 5 stage race in the Spanish province of Andalucía. The stages are hilly and perfect to get in shape for Paris - Nice and Tirreno - Adriatico.
Last year, the race was surprisingly won by M&M's Koen De Kort.

* J. Cabreira (Onda), Marc De Maar, Rafael Valls (Nespresso).
Our goal
We'll aim for a Top 3 here.
Stage 1
The first stage in the Vuelta a Andalucía is a very hily prologue in Benahavís. After a 2.5 kilometre descend, the road starts to ascend slowly. First with gradients of 3-5%, but in the last 1500 metres there are parts that arise with 15-20%!
Ah, the almighty bugged prologue of the Vuelta a Andalucía...... When you don't take the first few places, you've done a bad prologue. So with taking place 1 to 6, we can say that it's a good prologue for us, with Lieuwe Westra being the fastest.

Stage 2
The 2nd stage is considered to be the queen's stage, with 2 long climbs in it. Unfortunately, the last summit of the 2 is 65 kilometres before the finish.
65km to go
We control the race untill the 2nd climb, the Puerto de Albumol, starts. As some of our riders, among them GC-leader Lieuwe Westra, are having problems in staying in the peloton, we drop the pace. 3 riders use that opportunity to attack: Serafin Martinez (Orbea), Maxime Méderel (Europcar) and Fabio Negri (Pisanellastoria).
Méderel is the first to arrive at the summit, and the 3 have a lead of 1'30 to the peloton.
11km to go
We use the long descend to regroup a bit, and collect some water bottles and food, and as a result, the margin to the 3 leaders grows to 3 minutes. We then let our domestiques increase the pace, but just as 2 years ago, it's almost impossible to decrease the gap....
Uproar 11 kilometres before the finish! A crash in the first peloton, and among them are 2 favourites for the GC-win. Igor Antón was one of the first riders to hit the tarmac, and also Juan José Cobo is about to crash, after parking is front wheel in the groin of a poor Europcar-rider (I really feel sorry for that guy....).
Finish
Meanwhile, up front, it's Maxime Méderel who easily wins the sprint of the 3 leaders, and taking the biggest win in his career at the age of 32. He also takes the lead in the GC. Negri finishes in 2nd and Martinez in 3rd.
Peter Sagan wins the sprint for the 4th place at 1'34. Igor Antón finishes 1'23 behind the first peloton, and Juan José Cobo looses 2'45 to the peloton.

Word from the DS
Just as 2 years ago, no other team wants to help us in the chase, and it was impossible to catch the breakaway. But with 3 relatively easy stages to go, it will be hard to regain the leaders jersey.
