And here's the thing: without all that bad luck, Menchov would've won the Tour!
no he wouldn't. Something else would have happened so that he didn't win. He's destined to never win the Tour!

EDIT: and without the crash, vande Velde would've won
Agreed. And what a shock it would've been! |

as usual, Evans did the final 10kms much faster than the rest of his TT

Nope for Vandevelde too. He was dropped before the crash and that group with Evans, Sastre, others came down really fast. They wouldn't have distanced Menchov or Kirchen otherwise. Max. gain for Christian without crash is 2 mins. He will be further away from yellow than 2 mins. |

Vandevelde, was only 35 sec. after at the top, but he crashed at the downhill, while gaining time on the others

with Menchov it's debatable, since we'll never know what he would've done at Hautacam, but not with Vande Velde. according to cyclingnews, he was 25 seconds behind the leaders' group when he crashed.
anyway, it's completely irrelevant

And again a Spaniard winning the Tour, as they have done since Armstrongs retirement. |

Vandevelde lost 2:01 to Menchov in Jausiers. Give him those two minutes and he will still not win the Tour. It's irrelevant, but it's also a fact.
As you say, Menchov CAN be argued. But there is so many ifs and he would have needed AT LEAST a minute extra in Hautacam. |

that's not the point. he was close to the leaders and gaining fast (he's a great descender). he would've caught them far before the finish.
anyway, "irrelevant" means irrelevant, just drop it
